I agree with this review. I just finished this expansion last night. I had finished this game over the summer and loved it dearly. The expansion, being unexpected, excited me in the opportunity to jump back into this world with characters I had grown attached to in the base game. That awe never really wore off for me. Internet tends to exacerbate the impressions of just 'how divided' a game is. It's not so much 'negative opinions seeking attention' though; youtube's recommended tab loves misery and tends to ignore the more positive or even-handed videos in favor of the ones with trashier titles (some of which might not be as negative as they appear, but YT loves aggressive stuff. Like the reviewer said, the dlc probably isn't worth this much money for the content it provides. There's new side quests and story objectives, but almost nothing new in gameplay barring 1-2 new bosses and a larger range boost attack. DLCs worth this price or less in other games have provided much more interesting and substantial gameplay content, such as Xenoblade 2 and 3, KH3, Strangers of Paradise, Fire Emblem Three Houses, etc... If you just want more story for this game, it'll give you that, but if you're looking for improved and expanded gameplay, you'll only find the same combat, and reused bosses and enemies from the base game with a different name slapped on.
I ended up hating Arise but am thinking of giving it another chance on new game+ and maybe this as well, if I ever catch a sale. 30usd DLC is a bit much.

@silentlore2458 yea those were extra content. But the main story expansion was always worth it. I wish more companies would do what monolith soft n cd project red do with expansion pass.
Personally I hated the later parts and especially the ending of the base game. It just became more and more cliché and anime trope heavy the longer it went on. I did like the tone of the earlier segments and the combat though... I might check this out once it's no longer so incredibly expensive. Sega pulled the same stunt with their DLC for Lost Judgment - I don't want to support publisher attempts to raise the base price point for smaller scale DLCs like this one.
I really love arise, combat is a very big step forward in terms of the combat style that berseria introduced, still not as good in terms of skill expression as vesperia or xillia, but still a step forward in terms of this style of combat My only problem with arise is the boss design, common enemies are generally fine because if you get a long enough combo you can deal half of their hp instantly with boost attacks, but bosses on the other hand are unbearable to fight against Boss zeugles never stagger unless you break their weakpoint or use a specific boost strike on them, this could be easily foxed with them being able to be staggered by regular attacks but make them break out of stagger periodically Human boss enemies are generally less horrible because they follow a very linear pattern of attack and be vulnerable, fights like dohalim and vholran for example. However, when they get around 10-15%hp they start spamming their mystic artes and its just annoying, it turns a fight of rythm and pattern recognition into a dps check at the final moments that if you fail means you'll have to redo all the fight, never happened to me but I can especially see this happening in the ganabelt and vholran fights where the mystic artes are really difficult to dodge A problem that both zeugle and human bosses have is hp, why do bosses have 100k+hp at level 30, I can accept them one shotting me because of the dodge mechanic, but why do they have 10x the hp of a common enemy. 100k would be hp values of superbosses in previous tales games and now they want me to do this for regular story bosses when the damage numbers are frankly lower than they have ever been for a tales game. To hack away at a boss' health bar at a reasonable pace you have to sacrifice alphen's whole hp bar to deal around 10k damage, which would mean that you would need to do 100 blazing sword attacks to take down a boss that's around level 30... these are just mid game level enemies, it gets worse as time goes on. Also having to sacrifice your whole hp as alphen to do meaningful damage means that shionne will be spamming healing artes which means that when a boss does a party wipe attack you wint have enough cp to revive your party, this wouldnt be bad if orange gels, which recover cp, weren't more expensive than life bottles and equipment Frankly if they tweak hp values in the next game to make it less of a shore to kill bosses they might have a pretty good formula for tales games, as it stands though, boss fights, which should be the bread and butter of an action rpg's gameplay are the worse part of the game
Not one single new arte. And god forbid they would have added at least one new costume to obtain in game. Idk why they make these things so difficult, when they dont need to be. Mediocre really.
The DLC reall feels.. unsatisfying? Like everyone gets their good ending futures in the base story, Everyone is happy dory and their futures are all hinted under the beautiful guise of Shione and Alphen gettind married (at least i think they got married in the ending) And it begins introducing a new character with even special abilities because of her birthright. But at a certain point in the story she basically got shoved aside and we got no screentime or even other interactions with her. I would have loved to fight as her or even see her get some use in combat.
Its really disappointing that they didn't include new weapons or skills. I loved the game and 100% it so I'll probably still get it... but I'm not in a rush.
My biggest problem with the game is if it takes place some time after the ending of the base game why the hell are they still wearing the same clothes?!? DO THESE PEOPLE NOT WASH CLOTHES
My biggest disappointment is Nazamil not being a playable character. It seems like a wasted opportunity to add some diversity to the gameplay after a very long campaign in the base game with the same 6 characters.
I liked Arise but the longer it went on the worse the story got. The dungeons were too long and enemies hp was BLOATED! If they kept it simple with class struggles, slavery, and fun quick combat it would have been better. I think I'd rather get the star ocean remake. That looks amazing.
Sorry but this DLC was absolutely not worth it and not made with care towards the fans at all. This was just a cash grab from BAMCO. The story is meh, they mess up the characters and the bosses are very lack luster. Please write an honest review about the game lol
If you go into this game knowing it's an extra long chapter to the original game it's alright. If you are expecting it to be a full sequel (like FF X-2 or FF 13-2 and 3) you will be disapointed. It's a fine game, just a bit of a rip off at $30 IMO.
Wish they'd take a step back with their story writing, the cast are becoming more and more blend within these games. Tales of Symphonia and Abyss had such an awesome storyline and cast and now ... Yeah not a fan of the cast, story didn't surprise me too nor the boss fights, just big hp sponge. Also that new character is just another laphicet/ellie. Arise get's the same hero/heroine treatment xillia did, I don't know... Not impressed by that game
None of the good weapons (or skins of them) from the expansion go into the main game. It’s a waste because both the ultimate sword (not fell arm) and legacy sword skins look way better than the plane jane silver sword that they let you bring into the main game. What a waste. It’s like they just didn’t care.
I’ll have to pass, the tales team just seems incapable of reaching their ps2 era peak anymore. I hope one day they can get there again but honestly i think scarlet nexus was a much better entry.
with arise they bet on all the wrong things and took quite a few steps back. but i guess they will still count it as a win since it won rpg of the year somehow.
uhm I was disappointed by Arise honestly: after Berseria I expected something more adult while arise, while keeping a focus on the political uprising aspect, is far milder and more generic. I did not buy this dlc but I'll pick it up on a sale in the future... in EU there's a physical version for ps5 I guess...
I loved the base game, but this dlc hasn't sold me at all, the trailers looked boring 😅 and now seeing this review it also seems like vague.... Like is there a villain? I just keep hearing it's about a girl.....
the combat definitely put me off of this game. The anime cutscene finishers are cool for awhile, but the core of it just feels weightless and barely put together.
I struggle to find out things Arise did well. The story is a mess, battle sysrem is just button mashing for the sake of combo, no real difficulty or depth. At least it had a few nice characters so the game can be somewhat tolerable with decent mods. This was my first entry to tales of and altho some games are praised by fans I don't know what's there to like about francnise. I think the sales were pretty good but in my opinion this franchise is destined to die unless they're willing to put more effort into games. But then again things like SAO exist and make money with their copy paste titles so you never know.
Well - It's not for you then. Nothing wrong with that. Lot's of people (Including myself) had a lot of fun with this game, and I started the DLC already. It's fun so far. As said, a lot of people just like this type of JRPG. There are more games that have that "hate or love" quality. For instance the Trails and Ys series from Nihom Falcom, or the Atelier and Blue Reflection series from Gust. Both series I like very much, but I definitely know it's not for everyone. At the other side of the spectrum (for me) are those Souls-like games, that I hate with a passion. Lucky enough there are different tastes and different people. As lion as you respect that difference there is noting wrong with liking something somebody else don't.
Spider man is woke movie game garbage with a cringe story and boring 30 minutes long walking and talk segment so yea it sucks..the mary jane missions alone make that garbage game a 6/10

A problem that both zeugle and human bosses have is hp, why do bosses have 100k+hp at level 30, I can accept them one shotting me because of the dodge mechanic, but why do they have 10x the hp of a common enemy. Also having to sacrifice your whole hp as alphen to do meaningful damage means that shionne will be spamming healing artes which means that when a boss does a party wipe attack you wint have enough cp to revive your party, this wouldnt be bad if orange gels, which recover cp, weren't more expensive than life bottles and equipment
Frankly if they tweak hp values in the next game to make it less of a shore to kill bosses they might have a pretty good formula for tales games, as it stands though, boss fights, which should be the bread and butter of an action rpg's gameplay are the worse part of the game
Satisfying ending indeed! :) worth every penny! :)
Not one single new arte. And god forbid they would have added at least one new costume to obtain in game. Idk why they make these things so difficult, when they dont need to be. Mediocre really.
The DLC reall feels.. unsatisfying?
Like everyone gets their good ending futures in the base story, Everyone is happy dory and their futures are all hinted under the beautiful guise of Shione and Alphen gettind married (at least i think they got married in the ending)
And it begins introducing a new character with even special abilities because of her birthright. But at a certain point in the story she basically got shoved aside and we got no screentime or even other interactions with her. I would have loved to fight as her or even see her get some use in combat.
Tales of graces f WAS my favourite and still is
Arise is a one and done game, i have no intention of going back to its world. Vesperia is a way better game.
Can't wait to spam Reigning Slash some more.
I can’t wait to play the dlc, I really enjoyed tales of arise
Its really disappointing that they didn't include new weapons or skills. I loved the game and 100% it so I'll probably still get it... but I'm not in a rush.
I may be interested in this.
My biggest problem with the game is if it takes place some time after the ending of the base game why the hell are they still wearing the same clothes?!? DO THESE PEOPLE NOT WASH CLOTHES
with star ocean second r out now. I don’t think we need this.
Not even the same game, star ocean second is done ugly pixel game…
My biggest disappointment is Nazamil not being a playable character. It seems like a wasted opportunity to add some diversity to the gameplay after a very long campaign in the base game with the same 6 characters.
I liked Arise but the longer it went on the worse the story got. The dungeons were too long and enemies hp was BLOATED! If they kept it simple with class struggles, slavery, and fun quick combat it would have been better. I think I'd rather get the star ocean remake. That looks amazing.
her outfit is same to the girl from tales of berseria xD thats her default outfit
Sorry but this DLC was absolutely not worth it and not made with care towards the fans at all. This was just a cash grab from BAMCO. The story is meh, they mess up the characters and the bosses are very lack luster. Please write an honest review about the game lol
These people will give anything a high score.
good review, I never played though.
Sad bought it before waiting for a review. 😢
Nice Velvet outfit
Looks awful on shionne
None of the good weapons (or skins of them) from the expansion go into the main game. It’s a waste because both the ultimate sword (not fell arm) and legacy sword skins look way better than the plane jane silver sword that they let you bring into the main game. What a waste. It’s like they just didn’t care.
Sorry I'm just too lazy to reinstall it just for a few hours of content 😅
Pressing the download button is to much. Wow.
@@jinchuriki7022 it really is I might cramp my finger
Yup. Not even worth it for this. I dont even remember the damn storyline to begin with anymore
@@jinchuriki7022yes especially for a mid boring ass game like tales of arise
The anime cutscene finishers are cool for awhile, but the core of it just feels weightless and barely put together.
dlc comes to late and cost too much.
Bamco is just trying to milk money for the next title guys no biggie 😊
Sold
Looks boring
As lion as you respect that difference there is noting wrong with liking something somebody else don't.
lol cope
