@@thereclaimer2945agreed. Like yes it’s not perfect, but I don’t know. I guess it’s nostalgia or something. People forget this was a low budget TV film from 2000.
It's such a shame that Britannic never got the chance to live up to her true potential. Thankfully, the oldest sister of the three Olympic class liners lived a long and prosperous life and actually earned the title "unsinkable" and for good reason, too. It's such a shame, though, that the Olympic was scrapped. If you're like me and your fond of old ocean liners and ships, ESPECIALLY Titanic and her sisters, there's a heartbreaking photo of Olympic's scrapping where they're actually breaking down the grand staircase that really hits hard. Obviously, this movie is of Britannic and I veered off from what I originally planned to comment, but it's impossible to think of her without thinking of her two older sister ships. I think, had she not become a hospital ship during World War 1, she would have gone on to live a fantastic life and it's really unfortunate that she wasn't given that chance. For anyone who has never seen what Britannic's forward grand staircase looked like in comparison with Olympic or Titanic, the developers of "Titanic: Honor and Glory" made a similar (but smaller) demo featuring the Britannic (Britannic: Patroness of the Mediterranean) and the dark, rich, beautiful colors were very unexpected; I highly suggest anyone who hasn't seen it, take a look for themselves because it's honestly spectacular and somewhat backs up my "wasted potential" comment.
If it wasn’t for it being made a hospital ship in the First World War .Many a sailors and other allied servicemen including my Grandfather wouldn’t have survived the war 😢
had all port holes been ordered closed and water tight doors closed at all time during sea travel per war policty....britannic should have stayed afloat
What a riveting conclusion! In 1976, the great oceanographer, Jacques Cousteau, found the wreck of the Britannic. It was about 8 miles from where it was thought to have sunk.
@@melmack2003 I mean, not really, we already knew where britannic was, Cousteau just got there first, and did absolutely nothing, did not even take anything, so Robert Ballard, the titanic and Bismarck discoverer did all of the work.

The character of Vera had to be a tip of the cap to real-life nurse Violet Jessop, who survived the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, the Britannic in 1916 and was aboard the Olympic in 1911 when it collided with a British warship.
nobody really knowz wether it was torpedo d or a mine at the time there was a U Boat around at that time an there was mines even the Olympic was bullied 😥😥
@@bertmohi3671 it was a mine it can’t be a torpedo cuz u boats aren’t allowed to fire on a hospital ship unless it had ammunition but in this case Britannia did not has ammunition
If I recall correctly, the 30 people that died from the propellers went into a lifeboat and went into the water prematurely, not like what was shown in the movie. The captain was trying to get to the shores as fast as he could which if you went into the water during that time, you could get sucked into the propellers but realizing that the boat was sinking and bringing more water in, he told his crew to stop the engines and abandoned ship, which is why the remaining passengers survived. Edit: I put "pillars" instead of the correct term "propellers", so thanks for pointing that one, much appreciated!
There are a lot of historical inaccuracies in this film From the layout of the ship to the plot The whole spy story isn't real It's still a very fun and entertaining film It's just weird that it's set on the Britannic and not on some fictional ship.
No one called Britannic or any other ship "unsinkable" after titanic sank. That was just dramatization and there were no civilian passengers on board, just the crew. This movie is full of exaggeration
@@ryan55883 yep a little known fact mate. admitted to by more than one nurse latter in life. but it does not seem to have been the reason the ship went down so fast. apparently! personally i think having lots of little holes all the way down the side of the ship close to the waterline must have helped the ship on its way to the bottom a lot. but what would i know.
@@pdhung3012no it wouldnt. Almost everyone survived and it was war time. Nothing special at all (Lusitania on the other hand was to fast and too brutal of a sinking to really focus on the sinking and make it as „romantic“ as the Titanic sinking. Titanic had so many stories happening while sinking like the band that still played or the rich people who went down with it, the breaking, the dream of a new life in America, the Iceberg that came out of a sudden and much more. It had everything to become legendary)
Even though there are inaccuracies, I loved this film since Middle School when I bumped into it years back. To those who hate this movie, let me remind you of a Titanic video game that holds a German spy putting a bomb onboard, killing a passenger, and other hiding secret plans, and yet I know a lot of enthusiasts who enjoys the game so literally. So take that for inaccuracies. Call it just a game, then we can call this a non literate good movie. Anyway, thanks for posting!
The acting & writing were great. A good story. Though the Britannic actual hit a mine that had been laid by a German submarine just the day before. The only people who died in the sinking were the occupants of one lifeboat that was sucked into one of the propellers (while it was still turning) and destroyed. Everyone else, including Miss Jessop, survived.
@@Titanick9-1912 actually the area had been swept for mines by the British a month earlier and a German submarine had layed new mines just before Britannic arrived. This is the reason why first reports claimed the Britannic was sunk by a German submarine torpedo. The British thought they had cleared all the mines.
Well they did change the cause of the sinking purely for the story. But the movie has several inaccuracies besides what you mentioned. The time of the sinking, the side the ship takes the damage, the people aboard (no children were on board), and the attack by the German U-Boat earlier in the movie. It could've made a good Lusitania movie but it seems like they just crammed in at the last minute for it to be a Britannic movie
Yeah.... I think it's from another Titanic movie called "The Titanic". It's one of the top 5 first titanic movies where the ship actually splits. The song is also the intro for that movie.
@@William_AftonReal------- I don’t know which Titanic movie you’re talking about, can you tell me what year this specific Titanic movie came out? I took a listen to the theme song for the 1996 one, and the 2012 one. Neither of them sounded like the Britannic movie theme.
It's merely because of how inaccurate this movie actually is compared to what happened to the real ship, also it's literally just a cash grab due to James Cameron's Titanic.
The ship does exist, but its a fictional account. For a while back then, it had me convinced it was a torpedo, and then later a mine... The latter was the right one except in here, it is deliberate sabotage. But either way, even with just 30 people dead and that everyone else had evacuated, it is a tragedy.
It was beyond belief that the hospital ship Britannic had been completely sabotaged by a member of the German military pretending to be one of the crew members of the ship.
That's because it's not a true account of the sinking. The Britannic founder because it hit a mine. They could have made the movie by detailing the story of Violet Jessop. She was a nurse who survived the collision of Olympic with another vessel, the sinking of the Titanic, and the sinking of the Britannic. I believe she lived until 1977 or something like that.
Germany suspected it was carrying arms, and it was. That does allow the enemy Germany to sink her. It is strictley forbidden, to carry arms on a passenger, or hospital ship.
Not to mention that sabotaging a hospital ship is considered a warcrime. Not to mention that Hospital ships are known to be neutral: They help soldiers of both sides (They are segregated to one side of the ship to avoid one soldier trying to kill a soldier of the opposing faction. We may have hatred toward German during WW2, but these nurses had no choice, but to help both sides.)
Quick rant: Even as a history nerd who knows the REAL historically accurate story of the HMHS Britannic, I still enjoyed this film even despite the obvious inaccuracies amd rushed production because I'm not the kind of person who only focuses on the negatives of something and then piles them up to make it as if the whole thing sucks like many "reviewers" do on UA-cam which they do to give the movie way more criticism than it deserves. It is a wholesome and well-made movie and those who say it sucks honestly need a different look on life and not have high expectations on everything, people who winge about it saying "IT'S FAR FROM HISTORICALLY ACCURATE" clearly don't know what the main purpose of a movie is, obviously it needs to respect the material and stay true to the events however at the same time it needs to create plots and dramatise that event to make the movie engaging for watchers and that unfortunately does mean distorting some minor details for that reason, if you want to watch a film that has NO inaccuracies or distortions at all then GO AND WATCH A DOCUMENTARY and not just nit-pick at something that is obviously going to have flaws in historical accuracy. I don't care what other history enthusiasts say, it's a good movie and I shall stand by that claim (even as a history nerd) until my grave.
There was no way a WW I German U-Boot could follow HMHS Britannic. The Britannic could cruise at 21 knots and the typical WW I era German sub could only make 14 knots surfaced. The sub would have to submerge during the day and could only make 9 knots under water. I believe HMHS Britannic struck a mine and sank.
The movie is stupid. Totally inaccurate and no respect to real survivors and victims. Clearly just a cash grab to milk the popularity of Cameron's film.
Exactly my thoughts after watching this movie))) The only question I have is why Britannik sank after being hit by a single mine, twice as faster as Titanic in 1912. As well as I know, there is still no reply for this question...
@@OlegKhorkov there is an answer to this. When the mine hit, the watertight doors in that area were jammed by the shock of the explosion, and they were left open. This doomed the ship. Since Britannic was designed for transatlantic voyages in the North Atlantic, the inside of the ship was very hot, and many of the crew left portholes open to help ventilate the ship. These portholes, coupled with the fact that Britannic continued to move after the explosion, brought lots of water in and accelerated the sinking.
@@AndyHappyGuy thanks a lot. All this looks logical but I wonder why all these watertight doors were left open in case of possible attack. The war was going... Anyway watertight doors didn't save Lusitania a half year earlier.
HISTORY FACT CHECK: at around 17:40 - 17:45, & a bit later, there is mention of the BLACK AND TANS. Recruitment of soldiers who became known as the Black & Tans in Ireland did not begin until 1920, and this film was said to take place in 1916, when the Brtitannic was really sunk. But--no Black and Tans for four more years.
Yes I noticed that too. Another historical inaccuracy is that women did not start cutting their hair until after the war which would have been 1919 or 1920, no woman in 1916 would have had hair like that. Pity they didn't get that right, and no woman in 1916 would have gone to a man's room like that, either.
@@carolinebarnes6832 Still, it's an enjoyable movie overall, IMO. It reminded me a lot of the 1975 movie *The Hindenburg*, which was another story about a fatal last voyage ended by sabotage. It's on UA-cam now in case you'd like a look at it. Between George C. Scott landing in a Messerschmitt Bf 109 with Spanish markings at the beginning to Scott finding the bomb just as it goes off, it's quite a ride. Okay, the Bf-109 didn't fly in combat in Spain until 1937, but there were German warplanes fighting for Franco in Spain in 1936. The Bf-109 was license-built in Spain long after the war and this is why there were real ones still flying in the 1970s.

The 2000 film "Britannic," directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith, is a fictionalized portrayal of the sinking of the RMS Britannic during World War I. While loosely based on historical events, the movie contains several significant inaccuracies. It depicts the sinking caused by an underwater mine explosion, which differs from the actual incident where the ship hit a mine. The film also distorts the timeline, presenting the sinking of the Britannic as occurring before the Titanic's sinking. Furthermore, it misrepresents the role of the Red Cross, fictionalizes characters and their actions, inaccurately portrays the ship's size and design, and lacks proper historical context. As is common in historical films, "Britannic" prioritizes storytelling and dramatic effect over strict adherence to historical facts, making it a work of fiction rather than a historically accurate depiction.
That first statement "this is the biggest ship in the world" is so far from true because at that time the s.s. imperator 52,100 GRT and her sister s.s. vaterland 59,900 GRT were already sailing by then, britannic -was 47,000- was 48,100 GRT.

Ignoring how the cgi is bad and how inaccurate it is, this is actually a good movie in my opinion and it was an enjoyable viewing. Some issues I had was the sinking, they edited it horribly, like how it lists and then in the next shot is titanicing again, but also I dislike how it doesn’t hit a mine, a bottle in the coal bunker explodes. I unlike others, did not care about them reusing the same background for any scene on deck and I like the spy story and the love story. I really like the fact that she was on the titanic which is a reference to Jessope and how it gave her PTSD as it probably did to people on board, I LOVE the scene where she has a Panic attack when getting on the lifeboat as Titanic survivors probably did when sailing, but I think this could have been way better as a Lusitania movie.
Definitely would have been better as the Lusitania video historically, as she was sunk by a submarine, the U-20, which happens to look very similar to the boat in this film
I think this movies strongpoint is it's plot, while it fails in budget related issues like the cgi or the acting (the acting being a budget issue because with more money you can get better actors ofc)
There was some problem in this movie The time wasnt at late morning it happened at 8:12 am at the morning and sunk at 9:15 am The engine did not blew up after the britannic hit a mine The ship stoped and immideitly sinking fast to its starboard side before 5 second, this did not happened but after all the funnels fall the bow hit the bottom of the seas The ship when it showed after the engine exploded it was on the port side instead or the starboard side at 1:16:07 and another mistake at 1:13:30 and said it has been hit on the port side instead of the starboard side which is the side where the mine hit and also sank on its starboard side

@@atlanticantiquesltd7372 it's not really worth watching when you consider that they're trying to use a real tragedy to tell fictional stories and an okay-ish plot. Unlike the Titanic movie which is very accurate and had amazing sets despite the fictional main characters, this movie just throws all the accuracy window and simply uses "Britannic" to milk the Titanic movie's popularity.
@@AndyHappyGuy How many thousands of movies have been made about tragedies and you pick this one. Almost every historical movie is based on a tragedy of some sort, fires, earthquakes, avalanches, explosions, etc. All of them have one thing in common, the producers take poetic license. In our dumb down world historical movies is as close to history that many people ever come, as skewed as it mabe, at least there know an event happened. I was a history major and still do historical research for grad students and professors/ historians so I have to overlook the historical inaccuracies and view these movies for what they are...entertainment.
@@atlanticantiquesltd7372 I pick this one because it differs so much from the real event and is obviously a knock-off of the Cameron movie made 3 years before. The whole submarine sequence is fake, the timing of everything from the departure to the sinking and the storm are all wrong. For some reasons the engines explode, which never happened, and the front of the ship explodes even though the engines were at the back. Worst of all, they smashed the lifeboat with the wrong propeller. These 30 or so people who got killed by the propellers were real victims of the disaster, yet the movie can't even get that right. The moment the main characters are off the ship, it conveniently sinks immediately (and wrongly).
Do not EVER call a ship unsinkable. To prove this is the RMS Titanic, German Battleship Bismarck, IJN Yamato, etc. And the Britannic was never considered the largest ships in the world; in fact she was the only in her class not to hold that title.
Also that fictional British warship looks like a late 1800’s American vessel and looks like an early battleship or armored cruiser, neither of which carried depth charges and were very slow. Also also why are there children on board a hospital ship that is meant to serve injured soldiers and service men injured during the war. This fact also means when the U-Boat fired upon her, they were committing a War Crime by breaking one of the laws set by the Geneva Convention. There were also no spies or whatever on board, nor were there any munitions, the famous liner correctly suspected of this is the RMS Lusitania. That ship was sunk by a U-Boat; the U-20 looked like the sub in this film.

Enjoyable movie, but hardly accurate. I don't ever remember reading that there were German spies on board the Britannic on her last voyage. According to history, she struck a mine and did not suffer an internal explosion. At least one account I read said that she sank quickly in part because the nurses had left some of the portholes open on the lower decks to air out the wards. Also, as someone noted below, German U-boats could not keep up with large merchant marine ships. The U-boat avoidance protocols of the day had them cruise at their highest cruise speed (20+ knots for Britannic) following a zig-zag course to make aiming torpedoes difficult. U-boats couldn't do more than 9 knots while submerged, and that was generally under battery power to keep their diesel exhausts and periscopes from being sighted. They could do 14 knots when surfaced but then they'd be easily seen by their targets. The best they could do was wait for a ship to pass them and hope the range was close enough so they could fire one or two torpedoes as they went past. Two lifeboats did get chewed to bits by the propellers but the captain was still on board at that point and after realizing his mistake, ordered the engines stopped. It is doubtful that a German intelligence officer was the sole occupant of one of them. And finally, where did they get that cute miniature transmitter hidden in a bible from? WW1 radios were primitive, large, used vacuum tubes, required multiple batteries and took a minute or two to warm up before they could be used to send Morse code messages. Using the boat's metal railing as an antenna was a nice touch, though.
This film started of so well, three quarters of the film had me fully engaged, then the last quarter happened, what waste of what could have been an excellent, exciting and thrilling adventure story. Sad.
Entertaining movie, "inspired by real events". Well, Britannic was a ship, looking like Titanic, and it sank november 1916. No rumors of german spies onboard, though. But don't care. A film made on a budget, but I really liked it 😊
In 1916 there was no such small portable radio-transmitter. Then, an U-boat could not possibly pursue a ship like the Britannic. Even surfaced , the U-boat could hardly make 20knots for a short time, while the Britannic could easily keep 23knots for a long time. Not to speak that the U-boat could not stay surfaced all the time, and while under water could hardly make 10knots for a short time... Otherwise the movie is pretty good.

Yes it is one of my favorite ships 🚢
Yes the titanic the Britannic and the Olympic are the best ships ever made in the world
The character of Vera had to be a tip of the cap to real-life nurse Violet Jessop, who survived the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, the Britannic in 1916 and was aboard the Olympic in 1911 when it collided with a British warship.

There are a lot of historical inaccuracies in this film

Don't ever call a ship "unsinkable." A ship may seem safe just because it has watertight bulkheads, but it can still sink no matter what.
No one called Britannic or any other ship "unsinkable" after titanic sank. That was just dramatization and there were no civilian passengers on board, just the crew. This movie is full of exaggeration

You can Cruise ships unsinkable, it can't sink.
The problem with the sinking of the Britannic was that when the explosion happened, the nurses opened the lower windows
@@ryan55883 yep a little known fact mate. admitted to by more than one nurse latter in life. but it does not seem to have been the reason the ship went down so fast. apparently!

(Lusitania on the other hand was to fast and too brutal of a sinking to really focus on the sinking and make it as „romantic“ as the Titanic sinking. Titanic had so many stories happening while sinking like the band that still played or the rich people who went down with it, the breaking, the dream of a new life in America, the Iceberg that came out of a sudden and much more. It had everything to become legendary)
Don't just discourage the existing director.
Try to find some other way of praising your James

Actually the submarine laid the mines a month earlier

@@jorgevillavicencio427 1971
Just like Joey Bribem pretending he is a patriotic American while being an anti American Socialist destroying America from within.
I loved this movie. Beautiful story..
If you see a ship that you never heard or knew about that was called to be unsinkable pretend you never ever knew about it. But the movie is great😊
it’s sad seeing people like you actually think this movie is great
A wonderful move in which miss campbol face a german spy and unknowingly fell in love with him . She saved his life. What a romentic movie
Saved his life only for him to act like a coward and commit suicide.
There was no way a WW I German U-Boot could follow HMHS Britannic.
The Britannic could cruise at 21 knots and the typical WW I era German sub
could only make 14 knots surfaced. The sub would have to submerge during the day
and could only make 9 knots under water.
@@OlegKhorkov the moment Britannic hit the mine, her crew were changing shifts and they opened the doors. Really just bad timing I guess.

HISTORY FACT CHECK: at around 17:40 - 17:45, & a bit later, there is mention of the BLACK AND TANS. Recruitment
of soldiers who became known as the Black & Tans in Ireland did not begin until 1920, and this film was said to take place in 1916, when the Brtitannic was really sunk. But--no Black and Tans for four more years.
Thank you for that
Guess who started the Black and Tans: Winston Churchill. Still not all that popular in Ireland?

"This is the biggest ship in the world! It is unsinkable!" I'm sure those who sailed on Titanic and survived it would beg to differ.

Yes I agree, it feels like an odd lusitania britannic combination
However for a random company in the 2000's id say the CGI wasnt that bad
Definitely would have been better as the Lusitania video historically, as she was sunk by a submarine, the U-20, which happens to look very similar to the boat in this film
Jaxonn09 There *is* a 2007 Lusitania movie
I think this movies strongpoint is it's plot, while it fails in budget related issues like the cgi or the acting (the acting being a budget issue because with more money you can get better actors ofc)

There was some problem in this movie
The time wasnt at late morning it happened at 8:12 am at the morning and sunk at 9:15 am
The engine did not blew up after the britannic hit a mine
The ship stoped and immideitly sinking fast to its starboard side before 5 second, this did not happened but after all the funnels fall the bow hit the bottom of the seas
The ship when it showed after the engine exploded it was on the port side instead or the starboard side at 1:16:07 and another mistake at 1:13:30 and said it has been hit on the port side instead of the starboard side which is the side where the mine hit and also sank on its starboard side
See above...
"A FICTIONAL account of the sinking of the H.M.H.S. Britannic"

On my knowledge the Britannic did topple over but only when the bow hit the bottom of the sea in the film the ship's bridge is still above the water
its 400 feet down on its side
That ship was sunk by a U-Boat; the U-20 looked like the sub in this film.
it has waterproof emergency doors, thats why they call it unsinkable

Eu sei q existe a versão dublada pois a primeira vez q eu vi esse filme foi na tv aberta na Band

A film made on a budget, but I really liked it 😊
Britannic is, a real true history 😊
This movie is amazing ⚓🛳️🇬🇧🏴
In 1916 there was no such small portable radio-transmitter. Then, an U-boat could not possibly pursue a ship like the Britannic. Even surfaced , the U-boat could hardly make 20knots for a short time, while the Britannic could easily keep 23knots for a long time. Not to speak that the U-boat could not stay surfaced all the time, and while under water could hardly make 10knots for a short time... Otherwise the movie is pretty good.
Yawn.......... Another pedant. (It would need to be a Transceiver, BTW) And whilst you are accurate in what you say as regards the sub etc..... Please:
It's a FICTIONAL TV MOVIE.... based simply on an incident in history:
It is NOT A Freakin Documentary! But! At least you acknowledged it was a "movie" so...👍
Sorry to sound off... but some of the comments here....Jeeeeeeeeze. Naysayers. Keyboard warriors ....and worse I fear.
Trying to compare a TV Movie (Which as you say was pretty good) with Cameron's Titanic Block Buster funded by MILLIONS of $$$$ is just ludicrous.
The reference to Titanic is minimal...and yet factual... The Britannic was her sister ship...at the end of the day.
For a TV Movie it got many things right....and many things a bit askew...But I enjoyed it overall.
(Merchant Mariner, 17 years in Communications.)(And yes, the Morse was accurate.)
@@patagualianmostly7437 Considering that few people these days can distinguish between fact and fiction in real life, all the complaints of inaccuracies are little surprise!

Wow...what a great film.

That was best movie I ever seen❤😢
Titanic and Britannic is a real legend ❤❤❤❤😢😢😢
How about Olympic that older than them ?
Very good movie
This is a completely FICTIONAL account of the Britannic sinking.
She hit a German Mine just off the Island of Kea, a Greek Island.
The true story would have made a much better movie.
