What is the purpose of the probe? The Philippine government must come up with standardized salaries for the medical professionals in the country competitive with the international standards. The salary of government doctors in the Philippines are below par compared to other countries. High school graduates are now earning higher than these pathetic physicians. If these physicians only knew that high school graduates are now actually earning millions a year, they will give up the miserable life they are in by quitting being a doctor. Being a physician in the Philippines is not worth the sacrifice. More high school graduates are now silent millionaires in the Philippines far more than those miserable doctors.

Cheating the people
No law prohibited the doctors to own businesses..As a matter of fact many doctors in our country have their own hospitals,clinics, pharmacies. etc.
The law clearly stated that the doctor is not allowed to sale any kind of drugs to their patient only the pharmacist is allowed.
Therefore if the doctor want to sale drugs he / she must hire a pharmacist.

Sa government hospitals bawal talaga. Pero in private clinics, hindi ito maiiwasan. Lalo na kung iisa lang ang brand ng gamot at subok naman talagang effective ang gamot na ito based sa evidence-based studies. Para sa pasyente din naman ang pineprescribe namin. Hindi naman kami demonyo at makasarili.

Lalo na kung meron naman siyang Pharmacist doon and legal naman ang business niya? And hindi lang naman yun ang brand ng gamot, let's say Amlodipine, na binebenta niya sa botika niya. I am sure marami siyang brands para sa isang gamot. Sen. Tulfo is WRONG in this matter. Maling mali.
If I am a doctor who owns a hospital, tapos I saw this patient sa clinic ko sa hospital na yun. And then nakita ko na kailangan siya ma-admit kunyare dahil sa pneumonia. Irerefer ko pa ba sya sa ibang hospital?? "Sir, punta po kayo sa ibang ospital kasi kailangan kayo ma-admit, medyo matindi ang pneumonia niyo."
O kaya ako may ari ng clinic with laboratory, sasabihin ko "May sintomas po kayo ng diabetes. Kailangan ma-check ang blood sugar niyo. Pagawa niyo po itong laboratory tests sa ibang laboratory na po. Wag na po dito." Diba? Kalokohan.

@@riz5083 Yes tama po. Kaya when patients buy from the pharmacy, they have the right to choose na po. That's what I advise my patients. May suggested brand ang doctor sa reseta, pero in the end depende sa patient (and budget niya) kung anong brand basta same drug po.

Sana nman Ang mga senator I respect din ung time ng resource person nila. Hindi pa tapos opening speech kinut na nila agad. Not because you are a senator means that you are the only one who have the right to talk. Also again may I remind the Senate that your mandate is to legislate laws. You are not the judiciary to decide who is guilty or not guilty. You are overstepping your mandate. Please review our constitution specially the part about separation of powers.
Essentially, it is NOT unethical to prescribe using the drug’s brand name especially if it is still under patent. Generic prescribing is for transparency , patient empowerment and cost effectiveness. The issue in this hearing is the unethical business practices of pharmaceutical companies involving inducement and bribery, the unethical conduct of medical representatives and collusion of doctor- prescribers . Misconduct of this nature covers both manufacturers of me-too drugs and multinational pharmaceuticals

Pharmacies should also be investigated...they are replacing doctors preferred brands with their own preferences or with only those available at their store. Stricter quality control of pharma conpanies should also be implemented...a lot of generics are coming out with questionable efficacy and bioequivalence

Hindi po mag a approved ang FDA ng CPR sa isang gamot kung hindi po na test at regular po ang pag inspect nila sa mga botika kung may suspicious na gamot na ibinebenta sa market..Take note surprised visit po lagi sila..At saka may malaking penalty po at the same time imprisonment kapag nakitaan ka ng unregistered medicines sa botika mo.

The issue was an ethical concern. Bar none, it was a blatant transgression on the Hippocratic Oath, "Primum Non Nocere," otherwise known as "First Do No Harm" and translated literally as "I will abstain from all intentional wrongdoing and harm."
A physician who holds interests in a pharmaceutical company and prescribes its product line constitute not only a violation in Medical Ethics, but flagrantly, a major conflict of interest.
As regards to the physician owning a pharmacy, an infraction on medical ethics and/or a conflict of interest has not been committed, if the establishment does not reside in the same territory covered by the medical practice, out of patient's reach, and no advisement from the said doctor for the prescription to be filled therein.

@@johnnnygaray2655 Correct! I used to see the medical representatives in the hospital all dressed up, with all their shiny cars so I thought it was a glamorous job. We were paid well, and we had so many perks, but kawawa mga tao. We used to give doctors incentives or kickbacks (we give out Mercedes Benz's, cash, foreign trips, computers, mobile phones, etc.). Many doctors would then prescribe our products only because they have incentives.
This was in the 1990's and so talagang matagal an maduming trabaho talaga sa marketing department nang pharma industry.

I see no problem if a Doctor owned a Pharmacy business. This is totally similar for a Civil Engineer having a Construction business, a Mechanical Engineer having a Metal Fab company or a simple Motorcycle mechanic having a Motor parts business. If a Doctor prescribed a certain meds, whether or not the patient will buy that meds to the Doctor owned pharmacy, at the end of the day, the patient still need to buy that meds. Bottomline, the prescribe meds will address the complaint of the patient. It is the patient decision where to buy that prescribed meds anyway.

as a former patient, Medical practice in the Philippines is problematic and horrendous ly expensive. As a medical practitioner myself abroad I do question some of the procedures or medications Philippine doctors order..Such as Antibiotics without follow up cultures? an MRI for meningitis when a simple spinal tap would have confirmed the diagnosis..Some doctors write in codes only their suki pharmacy can decipher and a whole lot more

Dr. Leachon increased the mistrust of the general public to health professionals, for me parang pinagmukhang niyang masama ang mga doctors only talking about the negative without even emphasizing that this is only a case to case basis by explaining more. Mga kabayan sana wag naman natin -generalize na ang karamihan ng doktor ay pera2 lang ang habol o walang malasakit.
Oo sabihin na natin na may mga tao na nagdoktor para lang kumita pero sana wag naman po natin lahatin.
Breakdown po ng proseso para maging doktor:
Pre-medical course: 4 years
Medicine proper: 5 years
After graduation at pagpasa ng Board exam pwede na sila mag-work as General Practitioner.
Pwede din mag RESIDENCY training ulit para maging SPECIALIST:
May sweldo po ang training pero depende kung nasa government ka(mas malaki sweldo pero sobrang pagod) or private(sakto or mas maliist ang sweldo pero hindi ganun kadami pasyente o napapagod).
Pagkatapos po ng lahat ng ito ay wala pa rin po kasiguraduhan na magiging successful po sila.
Marami po nagsasabi na ang paraan lamang para lumago o yumama dito sa Pilipinas ay maging businessman ka or politician. Sa tingin ko po ay may bahid din po ito ng katotohanan.
Hindi po lahat ng doktor mayaman.
Hindi po lahat ng doktor may malago na practice.
Tao din po sila katulad ninyo may mga pangangailangan.
