    I want to be studied, I've never had a flu shot and I've never had the flu (as far as I know neither have any of my genetic siblings). I'm not arguing with this knowledge in anyway shape or form, I just think we need to start studying the people who don't get sick and figure out why. I think it could possibly be a quicker solution. I am probably wrong though it's an idea.

    In the case of weakened or dead HIV injection does not work as it mutates to rapidly. The speaker claimed the best method would be antibodies which are special proteins. Proteins are nonliving material that you eat every day.

    okay, what is the "other" bacterium they are slicing that piece of flu virus on, and why is he comparing it to yogurt and calling it growing like bacteria does when it is a virus and I always thought that viruses were very different from bacteria??

    In this TED Talk, Seth Berkley explains the importance of developing a vaccine strategy for HIV and the flu. He highlights that both diseases are major global health threats that require innovative approaches to prevent them. Berkley explains that vaccines have played a critical role in reducing the spread of many diseases, but HIV and the flu present unique challenges in terms of vaccine development. He argues that a combination of approaches, including basic research, clinical trials, and new technologies, is necessary to overcome these challenges and develop effective vaccines.
    An ethical principle that is discussed in this talk is the principle of beneficence. Beneficence is the obligation to act in the best interests of others and to promote their well-being. Berkley argues that developing effective vaccines for HIV and the flu is crucial to promote global health and prevent unnecessary suffering. He highlights that vaccines have been one of the most successful public health interventions in history, preventing millions of deaths and improving the quality of life for many people. By pursuing vaccine development for HIV and the flu, we can fulfill our ethical obligation to promote the well-being of others and prevent needless suffering.

    umm but what's the problem with having a name for a virus and a name for a disease? the common cold virus has its own name (rhinovirus, coronavirus)too. Would you argue that the common cold has no causative connection to the viruses?
    And what do you mean by no clear connection? a couple of minutes of searching on the web will give you some clear connections.
    And what is that prediction of cancer experiment? I want some elaborations

    - Failure of every vaccine trial
    - Failure of every microbicide, even those containing antiretroviral drugs
    - Constant number of “HIV-positive” Americans for three decades
    - Constant demographics of “HIV” by age. race, and sex
    - No actually observed sexual transmission
    - Condom use has no effect on incidence of “HIV-positive”
    - Pregnant women more likely to become “HIV-positive”
    - Health-care workers at no risk of infection

    @PattyGilMo ...Also, AIDS patients don't have a strong immune system, so they're more likely to pick up new infections or not be able to fight cancers properly. Common killers were identified over time and found to be linked with AIDS.I don't understant your problem with that part.People have large variation in response time to any disease, but all HIV will progress to AIDS given time without treatment.PUBMED is a good source for peer-reviewed science in current HIV research if you want to look.

    @vinny111 I have studied immunology. I also have direct experience working with blood material harvested after vaccination and have observed how the repertoire of antibodies produced changes in response to the vaccine (in short, the mechanisms of acquired immunity). What you are telling me is like telling your auto mechanic that your car engine is driven by mice. I would not waste my time writing this if it were not so important.

    @niamhdowling That is a bit of twisted logic. People in third world countries have more children to offset the death rate, help with crops and care for them in old age. It was that way for many thousands of years. Death came from disease, starvation and war. It wasn't a nice balance but it was balance. Then came the missionaries and do-gooders. Each 'educated' them in what they believed was right. When famine or disease struck, their help= overpopulation, more disease, resource depletion

  • @niamhdowling
    @niamhdowling 14 років тому

    @kissmyfarmer
    Disease isn't "good for population control", in countires where disease is rampant people need to have more children to ensure they'll have children who survive to adulthood to care for the parents when they are old. That's a major reason first world birth rates are lower than developing countries. Vaccination programmes will help curb high populations. As well as alleviating human suffering, which is important.

Yeah, right - way to use your critical facilities! No-one puts anything untrue on the websites/forums you like, but the entire scientific community has managed to overcome the huge logistical organisational/co-operative hurdles, in secret, in order to conspire to pull the wool over the eyes of us poor schmucks...
    Love the TED vids ^_^

  • @Cheebzsta
    @Cheebzsta 14 років тому

    @florencelovme That's it? That's the *only* reason you can think of? Inherented doesn't mean both of your parents display anything, but we're still trying to determine what causes these kinds of conditions.
    What we *do* know is that vaccines don't cause autism and not using them is undoing one of the biggest life savers that human beings have ever come up with. Ever.

  • @niamhdowling
    @niamhdowling 14 років тому

    @Lily2U1515 He didn't explain that well. In this case a protein on the outer coat of the virus is what we want the immune system to see & attack. The gene for that virus outer coat protein can be inserted into the DNA of the bacteria,so that it makes a protein, with a virus protein part stuck on. The body attacks the bacteria strongly, so lots of immune cells make antibodies against it,some of which will be specific for the virus part.So when you get the real virus you recognise it and fight it

  • @DeviantincTV
    @DeviantincTV 14 років тому

    @Lily2U1515
    Viruses and bacteria are very different. What he said was it was so small you can grow it IN e.coli bacteria (instead of growing it in an egg), so you could grow the bacteria (with the virus, with the flu bit spliced on, that will act as the vaccine) as easily as a yoghurt culture. Hope this clarifies it ^_^

    SOooooooo true! I'd go even further and say that economies as a whole are structured to DISCOURAGE a reduced population since the strength of one is measured by the GDP - the more people are out there spending, the 'stronger' the economy! It's in the best interests to the people at the top (the only ones in a position to execute such a conspiracy) to have a very large, poor, population base to make money from.
    I also agree about 'lazy scepticism'. So much faith involved in it...

  • @47f0
    @47f0 14 років тому

    @smkymcnugget420 - fine. Take that same petri dish, add chlorine to it and watch everything die. But chlorine is in every bit of salt you ever ate, and is essential to your electrolyte balance. Elemental Hg is not the same as Hg bound in other compounds, and if you hadn't flunked your remedial chem class, you'd have a clue about that. As it is, I can only recommend that you swallow a large lump of sodium (the other ingredient in common table salt).

    @ZerqTM - chill man. You just came out of a long winter, and you need to go get some sunshine. Happens to a lot of Scandinavians. The fastest way to control the population of the planet is by increasing our standard of living. Paradoxically, countries with more progress in medicine tend to have lower birth rates. People with better access to birth control, and less likelihood that half their kids will die tend to make smaller families. Malthus hasn't won yet, and probably won't.

    @DoomsdayR3sistance But I suspect there will be other sources that dramatically vary from that, because this sounds like a list made up by people just trying to string up reasons it can't be, not reasons that it isn't... in such cases you tend to find it is and certainly AIDS which is a syndrone does appear to have a strong link to being caused by HIV, however this doesn't mean that HIV would be the only (potential) cause.

    I think overpopulation is a huge problem as well, but I think birth control will be the best method because it has so much less suffering than having people killed. And if it ever does come to a point that the planet cannot sustain the increasing population any longer, the population will drop anyway, so you got your natural pop control there.

    @mottdog2002 I would argue nearly all those points are meaningless because they apply to both (IE failures of vaccines hit's both, laws of probability would lead to a bias of people getting most infections as they get older). HIV and AIDs numbers won't have to correlate, most people get AIDs years after HIV, so there are plenty of ways for people to die before AIDs develops.
    For you points on "Viral loads" and published data on deaths, I think you are gunna need citations.

    This presentation sounded like 1 part sales pitch, 1 part propaganda, and 1 part truth. 16:15 "A company I'm engaged with..." (where's my stock ticker?!) "...has yadda yadda solved the world's problems" (is the SEC listening?!)
