- Hey there, folks and fiends! In this video, I'll be answering a few of your questions as well as painting a few of my first D&D characters that I've made for long term campaigns. Along with that I'll be telling a few short stories for each DnD character, but if you'd like to hear more, let me know and I might make an animated story for them too!

I'm letting one of my players play a humanoid gelatinous cube. It's surprisingly fun for roleplay and some creative gameplay, but yes I do regret my decision. Mostly because I think the rest of the players don't like it.
I mean, you could play some form of Ooblex. That would probably be similar to playing a shapeshifter, and you're an Ooze, so...
You're an Ooze, I guess? I don't know why anyone would want that, but it's an option!

This is my first experience with her stuff, but that line was an immediate indicator that I need to follow this person.
I really wish my players would just point at the monster manual instead of asking if playing another human is okay.

Ah, I have also been denied living out my true potential as the cube jelly friend. Joke's on the DM though because she later let my Changeling have a "pet" gelatinous cube... and by that, I mean the cleric polymorphed it into a smaller version of itself and we kept it in "magic tupperware" (don't ask) we'd bought much earlier from a shady wizard (please, don't ask).
My character was so excited about having a pet, and our party got so attached to our stupid cube mascot that I cried real tears when the DM killed my jelly buddy towards the end of the campaign. Never again will they give a little shimmy of (presumed) approval as my character fed them their scraps... and the occasional limbs of the party's enemies. RIP Gelina von Aima'Ryl Hyumann II, gone but never forgotten (mostly because my Changeling dedicated the rest of their "real human" life to making and selling jam in the shape of cubes in their memory).

My friend's playing a wizard who is a wizard a rogue and a barbarian combined; the DM granted him battle rage, he's also an urchin, and his class is wizard.

@@deamoncastor7307 Actually no, it's just that this DM grants you some special traits. Oh, and this is the same DM who in our level 1 first session (for that group) he planted cards from the DECK OF MANY THINGS in our environment. So this wizard drew one, and he got Moon. So he wished for a sixth level spell, and he wished for a sunblade. If I start a youtube channel like Jess' I think I'd talk about that.

My first character, which I am going to play when I find a group, is a skeleton warlock who *was* an elf, but really sucked at magic and accidentally destroyed all of his own flesh and is dreading the day when his patron finds out that hes bad at magic.

I remember my first character: Dilon Sumah Sos, my black Dragonborn barbarian who in his eternal wisdom thought that every problem could be fixed by inserting one hundred pounds of solid steel through the enemies' intestines, though surprisingly he died sleeping, assassinated really, though my beautiful dudes were nice enough to bury me and write this in my character's tombstone:
"Death had to take Dilon sleeping, for if he was awake there would have been a fight"
Still my favourite moment in D&D up to this point...

sometimes people strive to be one of the few of anything, similar to the reasonings to school shooters, publicity. then there's people who dislike anything that's not similar to them. it's a crazy world, why get surprised at anything people say and do?

My favourite character (well, top 3) is one where I abused the GM's generosity to allow myself a kobold tinker/artificer. Unfortunately the game only lasted 2-3 sessions (GM had ADD and couldn't handle pathfinder, let alone a party of 7 characters), but she, her inventions, and her potion-slinging goblin girlfriend were an incredible guerilla team.

Wretchette kinda looks a bit like a draconic variant of the beast, from beauty and the beast. And i love it!
I love out of the ordinary races and PC’s in campaigns. I had a Kolbold Sorcerer who had a very hot temper even though he’s was just over 2 ft tall. But at the same time he just wanted to be the big person to someone else. I also had a home brew character who was a Harpy named Paelias The Hollow. He was a Neutral Evil character amongst Good characters. He constantly was stopped from eating hostages or stealing from merchants. He hid his wings in a large cloak and arched his back, making himself look like a hunch-back. We had a Tiefling Monk in the same campaign and she was the only one with the patience to work with him. Over time, Paelias began to develop good habits and was nicer to others. Along with his development he found that he was falling in love with this Tiefling Monk, Rose. During the end of our first arc in the campaign, Rose died in combat, and Paelias was on his last legs. Our DM allowed this extra book called “Last Stands”, which allowed players to let their characters go out with a bang by sacrificing their very essence to do something crazy. Paelias, with the only person he ever loved dead, decided to activate his forbidden song(Primary Fighter, multiclassing in Bard and Monk). Casting true resurrection with his last words, “With my final and vile breaths, I bring back the breath of one who was true. As an atonement for my self, I let a good being take my place.” And thus Paelias’ wings glowed till they matched the sun as Rose’s spirit returned to her body, and Paelias fell to the ground. We successfully beat the boss, and I made both of the females at the table cry. It was a great session.

I really enjoy everything I've stumbled across that is associated with your talents. The way you narrate and express yourself is something tranquil, pleasant and quaint. As a current DM, D&D player of over 16 years and all around nerd you have my admiration and respect.
The time and work you put into your videos I am surprised you're not at 1M subs already, amazing work!

When it comes to Homebrew races... personally I want to DM more so then be a player so when I do make homebrew in general I make it towards my style (Challenging combat, and kinda strong story telling), but races in particular I made one and two items for that race on D&D Beyond (though I don't think I will make them public) this is essentially a Golem,
like imagine D&D's Shield Guardian(?) mixed with Warmachine's Warjacks, and their one trait essentially makes it so that every single one of them can be different, since they get "upgrades" as they level up these can be things like acid sprayers, flame throwers, etc. spread across 4 Slots (Left Arm, Right Arm, Torso and Head), then they get things like a stat boost and two traits (that I really should make into one) that make them harder to knock down,
and for a example of one for the Torso when it comes to "upgrades" I really challenged myself to make was this one that gives them essentially 2 free counter spells but it essentially swaps the "counter spell" out for the spell that was countered making it decently easy to overwhelm them with magic (unless they are also a Spell caster), so the biggest challenge really is balancing out their traits., since your DM should be able to handle making them fit into the setting, and it does help to have a open minded DM especially for purely homebrew races.
How can your first character be so perfectly flawed and built compared to other people's? They're really great!

One suggestion for your wild sorcerer. See if you can use the 3.5e wildmagic mechanic. The 5e mechanic is just a crit-fail table. I find the 3.5e one to be more exciting.
Wretchette looks like a fusion of a Dragon and a Pug. And I love her.

I chose a Kobold as i've always loved them as a Race, they are so underestimated yet, can be one of the most threatening races if used properly. Plus i mean LOOK at them, so adorable! and the dragon flair, just hit all the right buttons for me. Once i started getting into drawing and doodling it seemed the perfect fit for my avatar... considering my love of all things DnD.
Wreachette is adorable to me. The characters you created are so unique and gorgeous to look at. They are so cool! Very inspiring!

I loved hearing the story of how your monstrous PC aspirations get shot down! It really is hilarious!
I let a player pick a gelatinous cube as their race before. The work around was that they played a druid that attempted to wild shape into a monster instead of a beast, and they got stuck in their new form. Suspended in the center of the cube was the skeleton of their former race, and a floating light marble resided in the skull and sometimes the rib cage. Their ol bones were the only thing the cube couldn't dissolve. Variant human was good for getting the base stats, and using the feat to help give more specific flavor to the cube form. Their movement speed was slowed down from 30ft to 15. It was a lot of fun and probably wouldn't work in a lot of games...But in others, it's perfect.
4:38 I had a character with a very similar concept. Serer was an Orc with some dragon ancestry, he was captured by a dragon cult and they tried to draw out the draconic side but it backfired... It caused would little magic he had to drawn out wildly (Wild Sorcerer), and it caused his right side to take on malformed draconic features well his left side took on warped but still Orcish features. His new name became “Wud’ya’sae” as that was the first thing he he can remember, as it was being screamed repeatedly near him, after he lost his sanity. Below is a write up I did for him, physical description only, at the start of the campaign. Though he only lived for like 3 games.
The experiments had changed him greatly, what was once a normal orc is now closer to a child’s drawing after being told what an orc looks followed by the child getting bored half way and trying to draw a dragon. Wud is over 7 ft. tall, bald and his head is at a constant right tilt that makes him look like he is in a constant state of confusion (very fitting). The tilt maybe because his left eye is over 3 times the size of the right eye. The left eye just looks like enlarged orc eye, but the right eye is more reptilian. His mouth is always slightly open. His left tusk looks normal, but his right tusk is so large and slightly curved that it looks like he could accidently poke is right eye out at any moment. He also has an enlarged right canine that goes down to his chin that makes look like it is awkward to talk with that mouth or even close it. His arms are of different sizes, his right arm goes past his knees and looks thin and lanky well his left arm is 2/3 the length but at least 4 times the size of his right. His left hand is heavily scaled but otherwise is a normal bloated orcish hand, but his right hand looks like a fleshy dragon claw with broken and ill cared for talons. Along with his purple velvet with silver thread stars and moons wizard hat he wears a tattered robe with many holes in it and other than his boots that one is missing the whole sole and the other is missing the front ¼ he is not wearing anything under his robes. Other than a slight hunchback and sparse green scales there is not much wrong with his body or legs till you get to his webbed feet. Other than being webbed his left foot is clubbed and his right has kind-of raptor like talons that are similarly broken like those on his right hand.

Oh gods, hearing you talk about all these crazy characters reminds me of my players, almost every single one of them is a race that not “normal” (i tend to love the weird races) and a lot of homebrew classes and subclasses. For example; we have a tiefling blood mage named Bloom. (Precious cinnamon bun) She was born as a halfling (and still thinks she’s a halfling) and one day she persuaded an Ettercap that was following her and the party to follow her as her pet. And now “Jeremy” follows her around and is her “son”. I love my strange little party. But your art is amazing, i love your storytelling and i cant wait for more, keep it up you spectacular spectator!! xD

Older versions of D&D had Ooze genasi...who were basically ooze people...great for slime girls and lol, a humanoid gelatinous cube! I made a home brew for them for 5e, and am currently VERY happily playing an Ooze Genasi Bard named Mallow who has 6 Intelligence and was raised by our elderly Tortle Warlock (who MAY have BEEN a BBEG in his youth, but now just wants to be left alone in their little home deep within the marsh, and be a better person for his squishy daughter). Her instrument and WEAPON of choice is a DidgeriDoo. (I use it as a quarter staff, AND can blow darts out the holes for more range, and it makes the deep didgeridoo noises when swung and when I blow the darts out, alerting all enemies to my bardic presence...it is SO MUCH FUN.) The subrace went through a lot of work...but you could certainly switch around some things to make them more Gelatinous-cube like... (Such as switching out the Grease spell for Primal Savagery, so your bites deal acid damage as being eaten by a Gelatinous cube should XD) My homebrew is here: www.dndbeyond.com/subraces/84821-ooze-genasi

The 4th one reminds me of something that might be in a Ghibli film, I absolutely love it.
I've had like everyone in my first campaign make fun of my centaur. I'm a little bit sensitive about it, but the jokes are so funny I can't help but throw back my head in laughter. And the gameplay for centaurs is so fun and unique (people can RIDE on you into battle, or can ride on your back if they're sick or injured) that you can laugh at the jokes cause you know that you're better then everyone else.✌😉
If you're curious about Doppelgangers: the Eberron book in 3.5 has some on Changelings and they're sorta similar. Really interesting.

Ohhh I think you would rock pixel art! I was tutored in pastels at the same time I happened to be making (free, exposure, rip) pixels for dorky dragon websites and I think that pixels have a lot in common with impressionism. Basically it's not just about drawing what's there, but implying it by placing stuff around it. It's really pared down but rewarding... If you want to dive in, I recommend messing with limited palettes (there are some old favorites) and the history of why certain pixel shapes and colors were used where... It's really good fun tho, honest!

Whistle’s spell book sounds like the best ragamuffin spell book ever. Also, Grae looks like they’ve just Jar Jar-ed something from a food cart.
Jubilex sounds hilarious if it’s a she. The final boss splits itself into a few dozen different slime girls. Have fun.
Lastly, Jigglypuff is best Pokemon. It can even cosplay a spectator/beholder if you have a few Ekans tie themselves around it and stick googely eyes on them.

For the home brew race, I can attest to it. Accidentally, I became a ghost/construct in my first ever campaign. Completely overpowered. I can do rogue stuff without worry.
Glad to hear that others are more interested in monsters instead of the normal. Back when WoW came out I realized my dislike for the vanilla race choices of human, elf, dwarf and gnome.
As for homebrew stuff, recently the DM did not want my Lizardfolk to messily eat a goblin near the team. So the DM improved the bite attack by adding Swallow Whole. Now to find out ways that power can come in handy besides flavor text.

I love making dnd characters, I’ve come up with more ideas than I will probably ever be able to use
One suggestion for dialling up the chaos aspect of wild Sorceror make the wild magic surge range of activation (the need to roll a 1 on a d20 after a spell) increase in chance everytime you cast a spell of first level or higher, this resest on rests and after wild magic surges, but basicly that way it works is initially you only trigger wild magic on rolling a 1 on a d20 after you cast a spell of first level or higher add the spell level to that, increasing the wild surge range, so if you cast a 3rd level the wild magic surge would now be at 4 (1+3 from the 3rd level spell), and this stacks until you either blow up or take a rest.
it's fun, it's messy and it may or may not have caused the wild sorceror in my party to not only become 12 but also accidentally make a party of already wanted criminals into a party of wanted terrorrists for blowing up a fireball inside an inn....... yeah it's fun
