  • As you know the speedometer was defective. So I got a good used one off of eBay. I hooked it up to cable and jacked up the rear of the car and started it and put it in gear...nothing. So we started to backtrack it from the speedometer since we knew it was in working condition. I took the inner cable out and it was good. I took the angle drive off and we took it apart and it was good. That just left the drive gear in the OD transmission. I took it out and when we stuck the angle drive in the drive gear it just spun. So either the cables were bigger back when this OD was built, or it was just worn out. The factory just crimped the end of the drive gear to make it square, so my brother made a punch matching the size of the crimp and gave it a couple of whacks and the angle drive now fits nicely. I put the drive gear back in the OD and hooked everything back up, started the car and put it in gear and it worked. Job done.
With the dash now done I started back on the interior. I started to put the vinyl door caps on since they need to go on before the window weather strip and trim. I ran out of time and ended with the passenger door cap. I'll do the driver's door tomorrow.
