Ok, game’s out, we can confirm Frontiers goes hard
It's hard, and so am I playing it 👍
@@thenintendoistxI'm hard, and so is the game.

I really hope Frontiers turns out at least decent. Don't think I can really take another blunder. Especially after the amount of backing this game has been getting for the past few months.
At least decent? You’ve seen all the latest stuff right? Lol it looks great
@@sirsonic1832 That’s not how it works. Just becuase _you_ think something looks great doesn't mean other's won't still be skeptical (for good reason). Not everyone can just ignore the unfavorable track record of this series and get washed up in the hype before they've even _played_ the game for themselves. 🤷🏿♂️
@@DLxxx true but this is the first sonic game in a while that had absolutely positive reception before release. Forces absolutely did not lmao
@@DLxxx how come everyone who has played it said it was good then?
I expect to like this at least as much as Legends Arceus if not substantially more. And that went down fairly well overall for trying to open up standard Pokemon despite some major issues.
Apples to oranges here, but playing on well-optimized, next-gen consoles and with the kind of evolving high-concept story premise and soundtrack we've been promised so far I feel like I'd have a hard time actively disliking anything unless either the game was bugged to hell or the lategame did nothing but put you in spongey combat room after spongey combat room.
Hell, if it's *that good* I may like it more than Kirby Forgotten Land.

Best description of how I will feel when Frontiers releases
Fading World (Imperial Tower) - Sonic Forces
How you feel
Vandalize gave me such raw emotion and honestly has reignited my love for this franchise. I started just playing all the games again remembering how much I love them, like god that one song had such an effect on me and I cannot wait till November. It feels so far away
I know what you mean.
Maybe I should check out the music because the praise sounds interesting.
ONE OK Rock is soo good.
@Become upset. I'll take it.
I'm one of those that has hope for this game. I WANT Frontiers to do well. I WANT Frontiers to succeed. I WANT Frontiers to, at the very least, show true, wholehearted, and ACTUAL understanding of the series after how hard Forces didn't work. If so, I feel like this game is more like a "baby step" from the 2010s stories of "restraint" to the late 90's-early 2000's stories of actual importance.
My biggest fear is that this game will quickly get flack from its combat/skill tree systems alone, much like Unleashed and Black Knight when those came out. If not that, dissatisfaction will be found from a 2010s-era angle from lack of playable characters, old level tropes and all that stuff. And if I hear that "rocky transition" or "stupid friends/idea" nonsense one more time...
I'm just sick of all the fear, hate and cynicism shoved down our throats since the mid-2000's. Sonic REALLY needs this "redemption arc" on the game front, especially after the comics and the two movies.
Ive been super skeptical/cautiously optimistic these past few months. But honestly, with each new trailer this game is looking like the EXACT sort of Sonic game I always kinda wanted as a kid who grew up playing Unleashed. The fact it comes out on my bday also helps my hype lol. I guess maybe I just got tired of fearing for it, but my hype has been steadily rising. I agree with you, I WANT this game to at least be fun, maybe even a GREAT game! 🙏🏾
That "redemption arc" is what Colors, Mania and Generations did.
Forces wasn't good but pretty much everyone agrees that was because of the game itself being bad, not the franchise as a whole. That 2000s bad rep isn't how the series is widely seen anymore, that's just how the actual fandom sees it because apparently a weird entry and a disappointing sequel = dead franchise.
@@DerpaTure9503 every fandom does that unfortunately. I mean look at Star Wars people think disney killed star wars are two or three movies like people no franchise is perfect there’s always gonna be missteps
@@DerpaTure9503 They were just the calm before the shit storm. Frontiers looks like an actual attempt at redeeming Sonic.
@@Butwhythough881 That's because they DID kill Star Wars.
As you said, it’s all about Sonic taking a win at the moment. I’m hoping that, in the worst case scenario, this game walks for the next game to run.
i started out being overly cautious with this game and weary, but as more news dropped, better footage surfaced and i read demo impressions from longtime fans, ive slowly seen that cynicism turn into moderated excitement and it's starting to feel like the early 2000s character i grew up with is FINALLY coming home
all this news couldn't drop at a better time too as i get to try the demo at EGX next week so im super stoked to try this out and form an opinion!
do tell us your thoughts when you get back!
Hoping for a ping from UA-cam next week.

i feel that the "nostalgia pill" would had be easier to swallow if the levels where other visual designs from the past, if they want to REALLY sell the "Sonic's memories" idea they could had even use even spin off levels like levels from raiders and what not, with unique level design but chunks of recycle pieces that makes you go "aha! i remember this section from another place", but with even the visuals recycle it feels like they really didn't wanted to make it, aside for that, the game looks really exciting and fun
Raiders? Do you mean riders?
if they really wanted to recycle layouts, at least mix things up. Like how in the final boss of generations you see the city escape truck floating next to a chemical plant tube and sky sanctuary ruin? Something like that but with level layouts. Not just "Oh its modern green hill without 2D" or "Oh it's classic green hill without the corkscrews"
Turns out it is visual designs from the past
Man, I would truly love to see a full in-depth review from you when the game is out. You articulate your points so succinctly and are totally transparent about any personal hopes and biases you might have, but always talk about things objectively. All while sounding genuine, chill and funny. Glad to have found your channel!
Forces made me a bitter Sonic fan. Was hyped as hell when it was teased, was cautiously optimistic when the gameplay was revealed, and my excitement progressively got lower and lower after every announcement. When I finally got to play it, it was even worse than I had anticipated, It really felt like SEGA lost all passion for the franchise.
Kept my expectations at rock bottom for Frontiers when it was teased, but they managed to pull me in closer and closer with every new trailer, announcement, reveal, etc. It's like the opposite of what happened with Forces... I'm genuinely really excited for this now.
It's nice to see Sonic Team approach this game with what feels like genuine ambition for the first time in years. I know some people were turned off by Iizuka brushing off peoples demands for a delay and just telling them to play it for themselves, but to me, the fact that he was doing it so openly showed a kind of confidence that really made me take notice, especially since it was coming from a team that's tied itself in knots for years trying to appease a fractured fanbase.
Man, a Sonic video that didn't even take 2 weeks to come out? You must be getting good at this!
This video aged well
I am happy to report back that this game is great!
One thing I'm looking forward to in the game is a new form. They showed Super Sonic so casually in one of the trailers and some people have the natural assumption that Sonic is going to take on a new form to go against the enemy. I can only hope that's true.
Maybe some sort of cyber super form where he's fully enveloped in the stuff his hand was in
BTW, sorry to comment twice, but this was another _really_ solid video! I love how well you articulate your thoughts, and can do so in a way that's genuinely engaging to listen to. 😁 Even the title ended up being a lot more nuanced than it seemed at face value.
You're not saying it's _impossible_ for Frontiers to be bad, but rather that you're not going to give SEGA any leeway anymore, now that they've got your emotional investment. Completely understand that feeling, man. Keep up the great work 👍🏾
This game alone convinced me to finally buy a PS5 and managed to find one at my local Meijer of all places in store.
It was a 7/10 this video aged well
I'm still cautiously optimistic for Frontiers. Maybe I should let this go, but the last time I was *this* hyped for a Sonic game, it was Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. Still, after that game's release, I don't think Sega will ever put out such a disappointment. Well you would hope at least.
yeah I don't think they can create any game as glitchy as 06 or boom anymore because they do know that wouldn't work they did it 2 times and it failed so I don't understand some weirdos that say sonic frontiers is sonic 06 part 2
like do you know how bad that game is with glitches (even though p-06 is a masterpiece) like frontiers doesn't have nearly the same amount of glitches that the DX port of sonic adventure has let alone 06 or boom.
I’ve had the theme for the star fall islands on loop in my head for the past few days now, I still cannot believe something so beautiful and cinematic is from a sonic game and I cannot wait to hear what the rest of the ost has to offer
Ever since your first P-06 video I've been obsessed with your commentary. 😁
I'd recommend waiting until well after launch actually. Let others spend their money first for a product that might be questionable. I still think it won't be good ENOUGH for what it's trying to do, but I'll happily be wrong a week or so after the game releases if the result is getting a game I KNOW won't be a waste of my very limited time.

im so glad you started doing sonic over realm. i remember when u randomly released a sonic video and i was like "damn, he could go somewhere with this"
I dunno. I'm still getting pre-Forces flashbacks. No one's confident in a new Sonic game release, then they release some of the music and everyone's sure it'll be good.
People were saying it would be good since the story trailer lmao what
@@ykgcaramel6515 Who tf is "people" in this instance? I seen people giving their takes and other people attacking them for not being glowing praise for something they haven't seen shit for yet. I do not know why people are so religiously faithful about a series that hasn't given even a decent game in years. Its like the whole world just forgets when next product comes along to be consumed without a second thought.

Feperd and Trail. The 2 horsemen of making their own sonic inspired ips after fangames
The thing that makes me more confident about Frontiers than… basically any Sonic game for a while, is the fact that Sega and Sonic Team are willing to release this much of the actual game while keeping the story mysterious and having CGI cutscenes only as supplements to the real footage. They’re confident that the game is good enough that they can be this open about it and it will make people want to buy it. There’s also how the two songs we’ve gotten so far are absolute BANGERS that evoke the guitar anthems of the Adventure era games, which shows they’re interested in looking back to that period for inspiration instead of just going on with continuing what Unleashed (which is a great game, don’t get me wrong) did. I’m not pre-ordering the game, but I’ll gauge general reactions to it at launch and then probably go get it.
The lead dev on this is reportedly the one who worked on Adventure 1 and 2, so he's clearly getting right back in touch with his old successes.
@@FelisImpurrator Is there a source, or is that another unconfirmed "leak"?

Willing? This is the most quiet game release I have ever seen. Other strong IPs usually would have a demo months ago yet Sega has been drip feeding info and gameplay until maybe a week ago. It shows clear lack of faith in their game

“We live in a Sonic Frontiers” -Sage
I wasn't following this game so far but now you've got me hyped up for it
Hey bickuribox, sorry if this comment isnt related to the video but i would really like to recommend you a series of games you'll definitely like, i'll try to keep it short.
I suggest you look into the Megaman Zero games, they are 2D platformers focused on speeding through levels and melee combat, and when it comes to combat i dont think there is any other 2D game that even comes close to them. Speeding through levels, learning bosses and figuring out new ways to hit them while looking stylish is really addicting. The music is also fantastic and will keep you hyped to go fast. The first game is extremely good already and has such a good introduction it will keep you invested for the whole series.
The games are also really difficult which i think you might find apealing, but always in a fair and fun way.
The reason why i'm recommending this besides me believing you'll like them is because i feel like they are a evolution of the 2D sonic games in a way, where the speed and level mastery of of sonic is preserved, but with precise platforming, great combat, and a lot of tools to experiment with. I think you'll see what i mean around the 2nd game.
If that sounds interesting to you, the collection is on sale on steam and you can always refund, you'll definitely get a good enough taste before the 2 hour mark. The trailer sadly does not do a good job at showing the great parts of the games so instead maybe look up a review if you have doubts. If you end up enjoying it, i highly recommend you look up how the combo system works (videos by Magnus Zero or look up "Megaman zero Hit Priority System"), it's simple and will only take a few seconds, but you must know it if you want to enjoy the combat to it's fullest. ALSO PLAY WITH SAVE ASSIST.
I have replayed all the games 4 times in the past month because i had that much fun and i feel like i have so much left to learn and try with the combat.
Thanks for your time and i hope you enjoy it too if you give it a try.
This ROTMG update lookin crazy
I don't know if I'd say it's _guaranteed_ (there's still far too much of the game we haven't seen for me to be that optomistic), but I will say that Frontiers is looking to be decent at the very least.
Even though they've been pretty cagey about showing most of the story details (beyond vaguely describing the premise as a whole), it's certainly looking to be a step up from the narratives we've gotten in the last decade. Ian Flynn penning the localization and dialogue definitely helps too, albiet only so much. Same goes for the music-- the few tracks we've heard have been absolute FIRE so far.
However, at the same time, I'm not going to jump on this bandwagon that "FRONTIERS WILL HAVE THE BEST *[insert literally everything here]* " either. I just can't bring myself to get my hopes up to such extremes (so EARLY) with the shaky track record Sonic Team has had in the past 10 years. If the quality of the execution isn't guaranteed, I don’t care how cool the ideas sound. If it's good, I'll be more confident when the game is finally in my hands to _play,_ but until then, I'm keeping my hype restrained. 🤐✌🏾
From watching all those trailers, something I think will be undoubtedly a big flaw in the game is how artificial and non-immersive the world looks. People have been noticing since the first gameplay videos that the world is full of level design that looks completely detached from the rest of the world, with grinding rails and platforms floating around with no regards to how this could fit the environment they're in. This has been something present in most 3D Sonic games and it has never been an issue in the past, but in an open-world environment you expect this aspect to be made less noticeable in order to increase immersion and really sell the player in the experience of exploring everything, but it seems Sonic Frontiers is making this aspect more noticeable than ever before.
If the rest of the game manages to be good, that will be enough, but it's still a bummer that little care was put into making the world believable.
Looking at what we have seen of cyberspace I feel like the levels are going to go from more recognizable just sonics memories, to a combination of his and the new characters, to only the new characters memories.
great video dude! Got me even more hype!

Hey bickuribox, while we're waiting for frontiers, have you ever played Spark the Electric Jester? It started off as a 2D platformer like freedom planet but now it's a 3D Platformer that's really good and has a lot of freedom and openness in its stage design.
Got to try it at TGS today for 15 minutes and the new style has promise. Some things feel a bit finicky and will def take some getting used to but I think it’ll turn out fine. Only gripe I had is how easily Sonic will change directions with even the slightest touch of the control stick, causing you to careen off edges or miss things when you wanted to go straight. Hopefully they can tighten things up a bit but otherwise I might actually pick it up at launch!

Really wanna know what you think of Undefeatable lol. 7/10 is about where I'd put it and I'm very happy with that, hopefully they take this formula and improve upon it for next time. While the cyberspace levels are very much the weak point of the game for me but I still don't hate them, and I didn't time it really but I wouldn't say I spent 1/3 of my time with them. I like how even though they only use 4 aesthetic styles each level is evocative of various levels throughout sonic history, the SA2 ones are actually fun imo
This is v small thing but the lack of music in this particular video really felt like this is it. It didn't click for me that the game was approaching so soon and this earnest request and placing ones cards on the table really made that connection for me. I hope Frontiers is a game we can all come back too moving forward, or at the very least has a banging sequel

It is a 7/10!
The Cyberspace highway is the inter Zone Highway from the Comics brought to life.
Hell yeah.
I always knew that Forces wasn't the beginning of an era, it was the end of one.
Someone put out a theory that since some part of the Kronos' meaning essentially means something to do with the past, maybe only that island will have all the reused layouts in it which i'm kind of hoping will be the case but if they come mixed in with actual original designs (which seems to be the case going off that city level) then i'll be okay with that.
About the cyber stage the the highway stage looks like its on the level of unleahsed with insane paths and every path matters
only at the beginning and i agree with everything so far apart from the point about lost world's soundtrack. that shit is GOLD
If it's at least fun throughout, I think that's a win.

Ngl, i dont like vandalize. At least not for it being a sonic song. It feels like it doesnt relate to him or the characters at all.
The song describes a toxic relationship from the sounds of it. Sonic doesnt even have a crush let alone a toxic relationship.
The instrunental for it is dope, but i dont feel the lyrics fit.
Other than that, thats pretty much my only gripe with frontiers. I havent listened to "i am here" yet but i should.
Well, it obviously has its reasons for its themes of betrayal, we just haven't seen those reasons yet

Honestly, these were my thoughts BEFORE the new trailers, and I still had hope, despite the fact everyone at the time was criticizing the game. I also agree with the recycled levels problem, I couldn't see how Green Hill Zone or Sky Sanctuary could fit into the game or why SEGA was intent on bringing back levels from the past (haven't they already done this numerous times now?).
Overall, the game looks good (except maybe the Green Hill and Sky Sanctuary zones) and I see plenty of used potential.
Will you be talking about Freedom Planet 2 anytime soon? Just came out and it’s fantastic! Would love to see a video on it.

Sonic Team confirmed that the cyberspace thing is intentional which is why you don't see that many peeps talk about it but I'm glad it's being addressed still as we don't know what's ripped and what's not how many outweigh the other you know.
"Gameplay looks like a black Knight cutscene." I wouldn't go that far. Those pre rendered cutscenes in those sonic games is still well above current graphics processing.
yeah not even insomniacs games are as good as that graphically
@@Summorial2 yup ur right. Its pre rendered so makes sense
@@lordadz1615 I mean insomniac graphics almost look like real life so when ps6 releases we may just be able to play the sonic unleashed opening cutscene if this game succeeds lol
This has to be the weirdest Sonic game ever made. I've long yearned for a serious Sonic again since Unleashed and Black Knight, but this is sooo.....jarring. There are elements of a good story here and there with the whole Ancients backstory and SOME of the characters interactions, Sage is also an interesting concept yet she doesn't amount to do much. But then it falls flat so many small things that pile up into a big ball of mediocrity : the Pontac and Graff-like cringy jokes, constant use of memberberries lines referencing old games to the point of being a crutch (or straight up cringe like referencing Forces or namedropping Sticks from Boom), Eggman is barely in the game, Sonic and the main cast aren't insufferable (most of the time, at least, Sonic can be still painful at times, RCS's new voice direction just has me puzzled, he's not even trying anymore), they're just kinda there.
What bothers me the most is how low budget the animations are, since this game goes all this way to be open world, bringing assets that weren't seen since Unleashed or Generations like the direction cannons or the Light Speed Dash, a whole combat combo system, yet falls short on presentation. Also, Cyberspace stages are pathetic, literally Forces 2.0
It's like this game is trying to arch back to that mid 2000s feel you'd expect from Unleashed or 06, but still filtered through trash like Colors or Forces which drag it down. I can't call it exactly good, but it's not horrendous either. It's just so weirdly experimental.....And potentially, it has the foundation to lay out a decent new formula, if they iron out physics, Cyberspace (or action) stages level design, hub/action stage ratio, different character playstyles, and slightly better writing (and voice actors).
Too long, didn't read lmfao.
Ehh idk if I'd say the lines referencing older games are necessarily memberberry moments, I like that Sonic characters will casually call back to their past experiences and how that might shape how they view what's happening in the game. It makes them feel more real and like they have a tangible history that they ponder about, which would make sense considering how much they've been through, instead of it being shoved in your face constantly. If those lines were constant I'd say that's a more fair criticism but as it stands I like it a lot actually. Also canonizing IDW comic characters is a big W, as well as finally acknowledging Cream's existence lol. The Sticks thing is a bit odd considering Boom isn't supposed to be canon to the main Sonic games? But idk I don't hate it really. I like the idea of the writers trying to pick up the pieces of old failed games and shaping them into something worthwhile for the future.

There aren't meta era jokes, the referencing is to form continuity, Eggman isn't the main villain, Sonic and the cast are there during major plot points, This is literally Roger's best performance since Boom, the animation is good and even if it's stiff at times the team was less than 200 members and the cyberspace stages are 10 times better than anything Forces had, do not even compare them
Frontiers going to be good, and actually be different from the past few games Sonic has had that were blend and the same type of style of gameplay. I can see Frontiers having a score of an 8.7 in Critics, but I mean that’s how I think Sonic Frontiers will be rated once Launch comes out. But overall I’m excited for the game to come out this November!
I really hope they make the game really optimized.
i really agree with pretty much everything you said, and id also like to point out one thing that i personally dislike about frontiers so far: the sonic model. im not a big fan of the forces model, which they're using, as well as the jump and spring animations. i think his quills look too small and his color is less blueish, kind of brighter, two of these things that were also in forces.
and if they're trying to show the audience that sonic has matured and grown (that's especially noticeable in his deeper voice now) i personally would agree that unleashed/colors/generations could be a more suitable model for him imo, at least right now :)
the game feels bad when in the areas but the game play is okay but I recommand buffing speed than buffing the ring holding just so you can use the super boost
I’ll never understand why people need edited trailers to get them hyped, over pure gameplay. Wouldn’t you actually want to see what the game will actually be like? Instead of edited of clips of exciting parts?
