I was thinking the same thing! :P Tho I do wanna get bigger, but not fatter, so lifting is 100% win in my books (yes, in everyones books too who wanna get in shape). And I wonder, what man wouldn't enjoy getting his muscles bigger anyway? Not like you're going to be Arnold by doing "normal" weight lifting... you'll just refine your body to not only look better (that's irrelevant anyway, at least to me) but more strength means everyday life becomes so much easier too. Not to mention how much better you feel when you're IN shape compared to being a fattie :D But that wondering part is beside your point. Fatties like me cannot get that much bigger doing workouts and losing fat. In fact, I'll get smaller, on the right spots.
@@thomasip9938 Exactly. And less fat = more testosterone (to a healthy levels) = more happy man (since it's pretty much our most valued hormone) :P Not talking about taking extra testo tho, just how you'd get to those natural levels with being in shape and having muscles.
The fitness industry made us believe, that we could look like a pile of meat just by weighting lift... Some people want it, some fear it, but without "the secret sauce" won't happen (in most cases, not even with it XD).
What you said is so accurate. I've lost almost 90 pounds (40 kilos) in the last 2 years by watching my diet and walking more. The great motivators for me were being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (which everyone in my family gets sometime between 40 and 60 years old), and getting a dog. My friends have been joking that diabetes might be the best thing that's happened to me. The only thing I would add is to not get frustrated with plateaus. It doesn't matter if your weight loss has stalled, just keep moving and watching what you eat and it'll pick up again. I've had plateaus that lasted months but eventually the weight starts coming off again. Oh, and don't try to lose the weight too quickly. If you want to keep the weight off do it slowly. It's not about dieting, it's about changing your lifestyle.
@@MM-dm4xj I've got it and it's not really "curing" it just gets a bit better. But it's very very rare that you start producing your own insulin again.

I was overweight for 30 years. At 30 I was 124 lbs and a couple of years later I’m now down to 94 lbs. Bazillions of weight loss advice on the Internet, a lot of it was dodgy, and the only approach that worked for me was what Ramsey is saying here. Lift weights, walk often, and eat different (not less!). Thank you for being genuine, Ramsey. I’d love to visit your gym some day.

Punching with LIGHT WEIGHTS AND GOOD FORM helps you keep your hands up when you are tired. Heavy weights or bad form is horrible for you though. Very good advice in this video.
I would just like to say that heavy lifting is only for fat people a) whose joints are not compromised b) whose hearts are healthy c) who have some semblance of technique... You really should start light and go heavier when your form improves. Otherwise you'll injure yourself and get even fatter ;) Bas Rutten and GSP recommend resistance exercise in pools, Bas Even put a pretty great video out. Walking is always good, btw.
Hi Ramsay! I love this video, same as the others. I want to recommend you the book "Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen". It is quite interesting, about the Tarahumara tribe in Mexico, whose members are capable of running ultra distances, over 100 miles, without getting injured. It challenges the concept of what is humanly possible!
Athlean X is indeed awesome. I bought some of his plans and videos on his website and it really did help me out. I gained 5kg mass within one month simply by changing my diet (more healthy stuff). TLDR The effect of regular aerobic exercise on body fat is negligible; however, other forms of exercise may have a greater impact on body composition. For example, emerging research examining high-intensity intermittent exercise (HIIE) indicates that it may be more effective at reducing subcutaneous and abdominal body fat than other types of exercise. The mechanisms underlying the fat reduction induced by HIIE, however, are undetermined. Regular HIIE has been shown to significantly increase both aerobic and anaerobic fitness. HIIE also significantly lowers insulin resistance and results in a number of skeletal muscle adaptations that result in enhanced skeletal muscle fat oxidation and improved glucose tolerance. This review summarizes the results of HIIE studies on fat loss, fitness, insulin resistance, and skeletal muscle. Possible mechanisms underlying HIIE-induced fat loss and implications for the use of HIIE in the treatment and prevention of obesity are also discussed. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2991639/
Dropping weight: 500 kcals less that your body needs to go through your diet and lift with the Idea that EVERYONE CAN lift more that their own bodyweight in free bar exercises. Mark Rippetoe its a real good start for that. Really nice video as always Boss.
Spend 20 years on a mostly non-automated farm. That's how I did it. ;) City life makes you soft and squishy! I used to be 180 pounds of solid muscle and I miss that.
Good question, ask yourself what kind of connection you have with the world around you when walking versus when using a treadmill. Walking in the woods or staying between four walls, walking around your neighbourhood using your brain to connect to the world or staying indoors. Good mental health means staying connected: Sounds, smells, wind on your skin, waving to people, it all counts.
depends on the density of the object you're walking on, like concrete vs grass. the denser the object, the more stress you put on your joints over time.
Would swimming be a good substitute for walking? I have a mental disorder that acts up a lot when I go walking and water is the only place I can feel ok, would it be enough?
I'm a lucky guy. Always had physical jobs&for 35+yrs boxed or wrestled nearly every weekend (unless kayaking or canoeing). Now at 62 I weigh a few pounds less than my "after school" weight (which was never over 150 on a 5'9" frame). Still have abs&a "ropey" physique...in short, I totally agree with your recommendations here. We humans were made to move, our bodies were built for exertion, use it or lose it, care for it, it will last longer. LazyBoy riders&couch potatoes do themselves a disservice& a healthy diet and lifestyle serve us best.
Hello sensi. I have a question about connecting the upper leg to lower leg flow in a kick, maybe I lack strength in the thigh but I have a hard time whipping the lower leg behind the upper. I hope you can make sense of the question. Good training technique for developing the technique
To burn fat you have to be in a caloric deficit. Big muscles require more calories for maintenance. I personally think, walking is an underated exercise, not only for weight loss, but for health benefits. Even for the brain is beneficial. A good diet is essencial. The content in this chanel is also beneficial for the brain. Keep the good work.
New theory: Ramsey's "Whoohh" after he makes an "omg I can't believe how important this is and how hard it is to get folk to appreciate it" type of point is kinda like his "pfsss" that he makes while contracting his abs and diaphragm to protect his abdominal torso when getting a gut punch.
I weighed about 110kg back in January, had a blood clot (at the age of 30) and just realized I needed to get a change in my life. Now I've lost 30kg of fat and built up about 6-7kg of muscle, I've ran 30km as a record (but holy fuck that hurts the feet), but planning to join a boxing club or a ninjutsu one depending on how they appear, going in with a humble mindset knowing I'll be shit at it, but that's the part of growing in life I feel. Like you've said in many other videos -- pride is such a waste of energy in many ways. I've also been lifting weights and swimming and riding a bike with plans on going for my first marathon or possibly a triathlon but need to give the body time to adapt for such as well. Something that really helped with the mental part is my studies in psychology and philosophy though.
Is the majority of your strength training squats, deadlifts and pull ups? How much time do you spend on these three and how much do you spend on other lifts/exercises?
This was very informative, thank you! I have a question: When I jog slowly, I have the feeling I can do so indefinitely, from what I understand, this would be good for fat burn. Is there an easy way to tell when we "walk" and when we "run"? Or is it more like a fluid crossover, where both is burnt in activities which are between walking and running? Would walking still be better than slow jogging?
My body weight variate from 85kg to 125kg. Losing 30kg in 3 months its nothing to me, but keep that weight it's constant discipline and job. Strongman and powerlifters weight more than 150kg and they are capable to jump 2meters high and stand on one arm. Increase your specific strength and be happy with who you are.
People need to understand that, if they get fat/chubby over the course of 5, 10 or even 20 years, even 2 years of fitness to get back in shape is relatively quick and astonishing that our body can transform a year-long habit that fast
I used to have problems losing weight. After doing martial arts training practically every day I was losing a pound a week. I was doing my own intermittent fasting, because the hours i spent at the dojo I wasn't eating crap at home. Second my portions dropped. I started doing Hello Fresh and sharing 2 portions among 3 people. I had been doing AthleanX strength training on weekends. So that is how I lost weight, I was already eating pretty healthy for breakfast and lunch what I listed above just pushed me in a caloric deficit.
I used to be around 65 kg. for many many years, skinny but you could see all the muscles. Then later on I was going to the gym, I gain extra weight, I was around 72 kg because of bigger muscles. I was still doing martial arts at this time, i was good, had great stamina. But then I had to many beers, smoked a bit to much weed, was eating to many pizza's and wupti I was at 82 kg. ! Now I had MASS ! When I trained there was a serious force behind the punches and kicks but my stamina sucked big time ! when I was 65 - 70 kg i could train for a long time and even spar for many rounds, now i feel weak after 3-4 rounds. Okey I must admit my training program sucks now, got lazy but still. When I was around 72 kg. I felt like this was my best weight, fast, muscular and great endurance. My point is, we all have a perfect weight according to our hight. I am 174 cm tall, so the 72 - 75 kg. is very good for me.
That running vs walking for fat loss is pretty good point. Actually not just pretty, but on point. It's odd how all those (let's be honest...) kinda stupid weight loss TV shows always make those fatties run. There's high risk they'll get injured, because their joints aren't coping with all that weight and then this point you said on this video... There are studies on this subject and all of them suggest walking too. That's what me and my wife are doing now after we had our first born (just over a month old!). Take nice relaxed walks (slow start anyway, since she's still recovering from the labor). She used to run, which is good, because she's not build like I am (and not fattie like me :P ), but I never thought about joining her on those runs for 2 reasons: Not much benefit compared to our walks and I got my knee shot to pieces when I was serving (back in the day when I wasn't fattie), so it doesn't like running. Well, not literally shot as in by a gun, but anyway... so yeah, again good info. And because your channel has such a good content, naturally had to throw in a sub too. There are too many channels giving false and sometimes even down right dangerous advice that might get some fattie who's considering weight loss injured, like suggesting them to run, so this kinda info from your channel is highly appreciated.
Is learning to do judo unreasonable at 60 + years of age for health and self defense taking into account that this prospective candidate is in fairly good shape and has had no injuries to contend with ? Thanks for your time .
That's what I do. Walk. A lot more than half an hour but still walking. Every single day. I only train three days a week. But besides my training I've very active daily. I play basketball, I skateboard, I swim, I snowboard all of it just for fun. Current weight seventy five kilos at one hundred and eighty one cm, turning thirty eight next month.
Im kinda addicted to soda, my substitutes have been. Fizzy water (soda water or mineral water) its marketed as club soda its good if youre having greasy food and really crave a coke. Next sodas sweetened with stevia. Im not against aspartame but it does give me a headache cuz of the aftertaste. Stevia has more of a sugary aftertaste and it doesnt metabolize like sugar. Finally just water and lemon juice for when you want something acidic. Usually if youre pairing it with greasy foods. Its how ive cut down on sodas.
Also, very important, make sure you are looking after you immune system properly because our body fat also tends to contain viruses and/or bacteria from when we were sick in our fat. So hydrate, get plenty of vitamins and minerals, and keep a positive attitude as much as possible... also, ginger root is amazing (just saying). :)
Can I ask you what is the percentage between you wanting to be a fighter champion etc an a martial artist ? Both are not exclusive , but I do be think there is a difference
When I was competing professionally in MMA, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, etc... I never wanted to be a champion- I just wanted to pay bills. That apathy for success is one of my biggest regrets- now my entire focus as a coach is to train fighters to win fights.
I dropped from almost 90kg to now weighing myself everyday in the morning at around 82-83kg and all I've been doing is cycling for 2 months. Somewhat controlled nutrition, more water less junk. I get the concept of walking however I usually cycle doing sprint intervals; and I'm assuming at cruising pace fat storage is being used? First 3 weeks I dropped 4kg when I first start I was on an extreme caloric deficit noticeably felt lighter.

Good Message Ramsey,i jus started looking your Channel
thanks
Dropping weight:
500 kcals less that your body needs to go through your diet and lift with the Idea that EVERYONE CAN lift more that their own bodyweight in free bar exercises. Mark Rippetoe its a real good start for that.
Really nice video as always Boss.
I love the take home message, Ramsey.
Spend 20 years on a mostly non-automated farm. That's how I did it. ;)
City life makes you soft and squishy! I used to be 180 pounds of solid muscle and I miss that.
Sounds like a great idea! I've also thought about rural life and farming.
I have access to a treadmill where I live. What kind of differences are there, if there are any, between using the treadmill and walking?
Good question, ask yourself what kind of connection you have with the world around you when walking versus when using a treadmill. Walking in the woods or staying between four walls, walking around your neighbourhood using your brain to connect to the world or staying indoors. Good mental health means staying connected: Sounds, smells, wind on your skin, waving to people, it all counts.
depends on the density of the object you're walking on, like concrete vs grass. the denser the object, the more stress you put on your joints over time.
Ohk the oxygen part. I live in mongolia's capital city and it gets super smoky in the winters. So like going outside is like lung torture
Would swimming be a good substitute for walking? I have a mental disorder that acts up a lot when I go walking and water is the only place I can feel ok, would it be enough?
Sure
When he goes up to the camera to say youre already big, I could not stop laughing
Hello sensi. I have a question about connecting the upper leg to lower leg flow in a kick, maybe I lack strength in the thigh but I have a hard time whipping the lower leg behind the upper. I hope you can make sense of the question. Good training technique for developing the technique
lmao @ the big glove thing. Instant classic. That's like the Burt Reynolds/SNL Celebrity Jeopardy big hat gag.
Good to know! Thanks!
I used to weigh 270 now I weigh 235 definitely gonna start walking more after my workouts I did not know these things thank you for the information
Agree with the walking thing, except that our local postman, when I was a kid, didn't look that fit.
Very Interesting vid 😀
So what you're saying is.. walk to my bed every day and sleep. GOT IT
Also , what is the difference between working out & training
Great job man
You are number one boy Ramsey.
Ok so i just get started by walking eating things that grow in the dirt or have mums and picking heavy things up over and over?
Which would you say is more important? Getting the full 8 hours or waking up earlier to go for a morning stroll?
What about hiking? Or stair stuff?
Go for it!
I’m glad I lost weight but I wish I did it before It affected my health
Eat differently, walk regularly (30m preferably), sleep 8 hours a day.
Ramsey i dont know if you know that, but your voice is very bankable. Any plan to do professional voice over in another life ?
I've actually done a bunch of voiceovers- but it's really inconsistent work. If you've got any leads, I'm all ears.
I would like to know based on your opinion about mohhamed ali vs mike tyson. Thx
👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Close you eyes and imagine it's Barak Obama. You're welcome haha.
Ramsey, do boards hit back?
I dropped from almost 90kg to now weighing myself everyday in the morning at around 82-83kg and all I've been doing is cycling for 2 months. Somewhat controlled nutrition, more water less junk.
I get the concept of walking however I usually cycle doing sprint intervals; and I'm assuming at cruising pace fat storage is being used?
First 3 weeks I dropped 4kg when I first start I was on an extreme caloric deficit noticeably felt lighter.
Banjo Jo weighing yourself daily is kinda overkill unless you are a bodybuilder and you have a competition coming up. Once a week is enough
