I loved this and the idea behind it! I have wanted to add figures to my collages or paintings for YEARS but l didn’t think I could until I saw this video. Thank you 🙏
Oh!!! This makes me SO happy🤗 Adding figures to our pages doesn’t have to be stressful and difficult. This video shows you the bones of how to do this and then you can dress it up a million different ways. Have fun and happy creating 🤗
Yes…these are the *bones* but you can really dress it up with stamps, stencils, collage, layers of paint…endless possibilities!! Incorporating figures can be intimidating but it doesn’t have to be!
Loved this lesson. I don't know why I love these figures but I do. So I made my first one today, following along here and adding my Halloween theme as I'm doing my own challenge. The strangely abstract figure so fits my layout.
Thank you so much Soraya! This was a very helpful tutorial. I so appreciate it. I tried my first figure today, thanks to you. I have lots of learning, but considering that it was my first I did like it and I loved creating it. I am so excited and I will be trying again with the techniques from this tutorial. I total agree about our journals. I’m very thankful you are sharing yours because you are truly helping me and others I’m sure.
Hi Patricia…I’m SO glad you tried it out and like your figures! It doesn’t have to be scary or intimidating (but unfortunately it often is)…it can be playful and fun because that’s where so much of the magic happens. Happy creating 🥰
Hi Kathy…thank you so much for watching and I’m so glad this has been helpful. Families would be great🤩 Adding figures to our art doesn’t have to be complicated or stressful but it so often is. Happy creating and welcome to my channel 🤗
Hello, this is my first time on your channel. Thank you for this video to show how easy it is to draw people in your journal. Here are a few ideas I use in my art journal. Sometimes I will cut out faces from magazines and use those if and when I really don't feel like drawing them myself. Or when I want my person (or people) to really look "unique", cut the face in half, glue the printed image on one side of the head and draw the other half of the face on the other side. Cutting out facial features individually (eyes, noses, mouths) and arranging them inside of the head (a collage of facial features) creating a face, can be fun too. Mixing pieces together that don't actually go together may look "weird" but it might make you laugh while creating them. And the pieces don't actually have to fit. Maybe the eyes extend outside of the head. Maybe use only one eye and no other features (cyclopes). Or use just a mouth and call it a talking head, LOL. It's just another way to have a fun time in your journal without worrying about what another "somebody" my say. Who knows, you may look back over that journal months or years from now and just laugh at the way the image(s) looked in your journal spread. I think it gives new meanings to "imperfectly perfect" (that's me) or "perfectly imperfect" (that's me too). Which ever works. 😊 Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for sharing some of your art process. I completely agree…the more we can play, have fun, experiment, be curious and silly and in “beginner’s mind”…the more creative we can become. Magazines are amazing resources for a million different things and I love thinking up new ways to learn & create. Thanks for watching and for being here. Welcome to my channel 🤗🤩☀️
I’m so glad to have stumbled on your channel today. I have been wanting to try figures but have been intimidated. I can totally do this. Plus I love how you talked about the art journal being like your diary-just for you. I’m adjusting my thinking! Thank you!!!
Hi Julie…you can absolutely do this!!!🤩 I’m so glad you’re here & welcome to my channel 🤗Yes…an art journal is exactly like a diary in the sense that it’s very personal and you have complete freedom. Sometimes I forget that and need a gentle reminder. Happy creating and so glad this video is helpful!
Thank you for this. I always overcomplicate figures in my work so most of the time I avoid them. This has been so helpful 😊 Now I'm off to see what other videos you have 🙂 Thanks again!
Hi there! I really hope you give it a try! Adding figures to our work doesn’t have to be scary or intimidating….it can be easy and fun! Happy creating!
Well, how lucky am I to have stumbled upon your channel this morning! What a gorgeous, soulful, and delicious style you have! I am looking forward to taking in what you have to share with the world and learning as much from you as I can. Wishing you a beautiful day, Soraya
Thank you for using a plain, inexpensive composition notebook. So many u-tubers go into details of all the different kinds of sketchbooks. This would work well as a lightweight travel or daily visual journal. The only tool I wouldn't use is Mod Podge. A better quality paste would be archival PVA glue. I have been inspired.
Hi Sam! Thank you so much for watching my tutorial. Yes…composition books are awesome to use and have incredibly great qualities that make it ideal for art journaling. I did a tutorial a few weeks ago on creating first layers in a cheap composition book. Mod podge is archival but of course everyone has their own preferences. Welcome to my channel 🤗
Hi Sharon. Thank you for watching my tutorial and I’m so glad it’s helpful. Drawing and painting figures doesn’t have to be stressful and difficult but unfortunately it often is. Hope this makes it more playful. Welcome to my channel and happy creating 🤗
I know I type this often but your content is speaking to my exact issues-overwhelmed, need guidance or to observe someone bc my very concrete brain struggles to do abstract things (hence why I am on my art journey-to heal some thinking patterns and anxieties…) …just, thank you!! 🎉❤ Circling back to say, I also struggle with layering bc my brain thinks everything is precious (which is not how that works 😂) so you going over layers-while I still stir inside, it’s helping and I’m having more ease 🎉
I can completely relate to what you’re saying. And while the stress/anxiety etc may stem from art related stuff or something else…no one needs additional stress while creating!! That’s maybe a huge reason why I so often talk about letting go and being in beginner’s mind! About covering up stuff I love 😭It’s so sad😥but I try to think of it like…it’s still there…I just can’t see it! PS I’m thinking about creating a few creativity/art related meditation videos…any feedback? Would that be helpful do you think?
thank you again for sharing that and for your gifts that brighten the world 🎇 I think that would be an amazing offering…for feedback….hmmm, I will keep thinking about this but the first thing that comes to mind is more flip throughs? I love viewing your work!

Hi Jack…thanks for watching and welcome to my channel. Yes…these cheap lined notebooks are pretty sturdy and a few videos back I did a tutorial Mixed Media on Cheap Lined Notebooks. There are many more pros than cons. Happy creating!
