This series demonstrates that all though you are out of your usual down south comfort zone, the instinct and abilities of a true fisherman transcends location and geography. In essence it's just been ingrained in our DNA. Hope your inspirations and mentors watch your vids, and are also inspired at the same time as being proud as punch 😉
Really great pictures and vid. Well done! NZ Hauraki Gulf and outer islands around the Great Barrier Islands---a fishing paradise. In decades to come the whole area may be classed as a protected sanctuary. So good to see you return the fish. Such a fine example for future generations.
Your vids are one another level bro👍Appreciate the efffort you go to filming and setting up the shots to make it all look good for us viewers, and all while your fishing too, awesome dude👊
Hi from mike A. From LA.CA. MAN I love your job. I would love to do what your doing. Im sure its tough sometimes, but its worth it. Man the rocks the ocean the fishing just EPIC. THANKS. and when you when through those two big rocks on the kayak and the wave picked you up and pushed you out. That was great. Lets see more of that
How do you scout out your camp and cave spots? Can we get a video of the research you do before hand? Or do you just full send whenever you see a new interesting spot? (I’ve only been watching for a few months now so if these questions have already been answered sorry)
Google maps as well as Earth I think. All the fishing sites Gido chooses are not public knowledge however. It’s not rocket surgery of course, you can just look at maps and find an access point and go exploring. Not sure there’s much more Gido can help you with there.
Hoping you can make it down south Gido. Plenty of big snapper and kingys in Nelson/Marlborough and some new species for you to sample like Gurnard or perhaps dory on a slidebait...
I didn’t get a chance to explore other areas this trip. Spent most the time offshore from Auckland. Would love to come check out the Fiords in the south and try catching some new species
Can you please explain your rig and line and rod in more detail easy for beginners to understand and also a lil why you choose the way you do things ❤❤❤❤
I threw my old pair of boots out just before this trip and had to get new ones. Big mistake. Had a terrible blister on my heel the entire trip. Some reef booties would have been great so I could get them wet also
Bro, that island has the nickname Devo's Rock after one of our yak fishing mates. You were so close to a consistent big moocher spot, next time. Awesome vid 👍
If you're right-handed, then why do you have your reels set up for lefty? Just preference? You would save a step instead of swapping hands every time you cast.
Most fishermen in Australia that are taught from a young age are taught to wind the reel with their non dominant (less strong) arm. It's uncoordinated to start with but better in long run. If your casting a spinning rod. You don't need to change hands..
@@Alberthoward3right9up If you go back and watch, you'll notice that you are casting with your dominant arm, then changing it up to reel. I suppose you do it subconsciously now, because it's just what you're comfortable with doing. I don't think it's a northern or Southern hemisphere thing. You catch more fish than me, who am I to tell you how to fish.. cheers
@@MOEMUGGY with a small rod. You cast with one hand. Your dominant one. You wind with the other so you don't have to change hands. Big rod makes no difference in my opinion as you usually do a decent cast. So plenty of time to do a jig and swap hands lol
You should try it the other way. I'll bet after your first few casts you'll never go back. It's nice being able to flip the bail over or start reeling before it even hits the water. I suppose it doesn't matter if you're just fishing with chunk bait. Whatever gets them in the boat. @@Alberthoward3right9up
@@MOEMUGGY I do do it that way. But cast left handed in my kayak. So i can wind as soon as lure hits water. I'm pushing fifty mate. No going back now lol. I can't wind left handed. But can cast left handed.there are a few crappy vids on my channel if you want a look at my yak.

bigger baits mate for bigger snapper or those little ones is all you'll get all day long... instead of moving around the island, berley the hell out of one spot to bring in the kingis and big snapper, maybe spin for kahawai and live bait one under a balloon.
@@gidosfishingadventures we have a system for rock fishing in NZ... well the old Landbase Fishing Club used to. First we berley, then we get livebait balloon gear ready, then we spin in the berley for kahawai, put out kahawai under balloon... relax now and catch pannies for tea in the berley or throw BIG baits out the back of the berley for the 20 pound snaps. The fish die.
Look it up
It's true they often die but it's not a given thing (somewhere between 15-20%). How long you handle them has a huge impact on mortality rates.

Tether down that mirage drive when you pull the kayak up onto the rocks. Scared you're going to lose it!!
it had a tether on it already, I moved it so it didn't poke through and get damaged as I dragged it up
