Wow! It's not often I hear such an honest review of the problems of running a small business and the enormous differences and challenges that occur when one moves from a hobby or a vocation that one loves to depending on that interest being a source of income not only for yourself but for everyone that comes on board as an employee. Eighty hour weeks and every right decision is almost certainly liable to be a wrong one. Thank you for everything you do.

Great things to tell someone starting any kind of company. People who spend their lives as employees have no idea how bad it sucks to be responsible for so much.

What a heavy and brutally honest episode. I appreciate the transparency.
I legitimately had no idea Angry Orchard is Sam Adam's. They don't make that well known.

Watching this in April 2021. 👍 So appreciate the honesty here. Would rather go into this dream with my eyes wide open.
    Thanks again!

One time I saw a guy at work that I thought was Ricky before getting on the elevator but wasn't. I guess I starred at him long enough where he was like hi how are you?

I appreciate your honesty, but I, for one, am very glad that you went into business.

I own and opperate an axe throwing bar and listening to this hits so close to home. I can say first hand that SO much of this translates into at least my own business if not many others as well. Dont get me wrong I love what I do. I get to throw axes, drink mead, and do some amazing things with other companies. But looking back over all the very tough nights, extremely long hours, and the crushing failures that have happened time and time again, its really hard to say if I would do it over, knowing what I know now.

This is an eye-opening, daunting, and terribly honest testimonial. Enlightening as well.
I am in the "beginning" stages of attempting to start up my own meadery. I'm in the State of Nevada. The laws fall in line with Federal, and I'm overwhelmed with what should be tackled first. Seems like an all-in or nothing. If you have any pointers, I'd really like your input.

Ricky..I have a different problem. I have completed to bottle exactly one batch of mead. Three people have tasted this mead. In the few months since I started talking about returning to my hobby of brewing I have had at least 7000 people tell me I should "go professional". Is this your fault?
    You rock. Be Well

Wow, that just scared me back to my basement. But that is some very honest great advice that anyone actually thinking about this needs to hear.
So is there a level before pro? Like an Etsy for Homebrew?

Just as I was thinking “what about the trolls” watching that part of the video, the next second you brought it up. Your Facebook page seemed full of people attacking your mead and the fact you used cans (and the misogynists). I’m thinking they should just move along. One of my favorite places to hang out was ruined by online trolls to the point it ended up closing down

This is inspiring and interesting. It’s sad that there’s so much hate in the world. It shouldn’t matter who owns the business or if you hire gay people. As a conservative , I find those people repulsive and I’m sorry that you e had to experience that. Owning a business isn’t easy and I understand your challenges. However, at the end of the day, it’s all you! When you defy the big breweries/meaderies and stay true to “craft” there’s a competitive edge that no one can replace. You offer a unique quaint ambience and I think that’s a thousand times better than being the “biggest or the largest” mead maker. This online ordering is going to help you expand your brand now so stay positive. I wish you guys lots of success in 2021.

Hi Goran! Ricky is still making mead and Groennfell is still around! It's been a bit since we've made a video because life has gotten busy, but you can always find us on Facebook (@groennfell), Instagram (@groennfell), or in our Facebook group, Certified Meadiacs (facebook.com/groups/meadiacs). We'd love to hear from you!
