I accidentally found your site. I was looking for a travel trailer. This is Nov 13 and hv been benge watching til present. You guys are incredibly talented.
Ibid. I second that previous comment. I look forward to hearing Curt's story. Every chapter of his Vanagon story must be amazing...ie., how he strays so far from home with fuel problems, etc...knowing that he has a team of mechanics in the wings if he breaks down.
Dude! when your homie started prying off that front pumper end I was like WTF is he doing! Then he starts hammering the front corner I was like WHAT THE FUUUUUCK! WHYYYYY! hahaha. Doesn't seem to bother anyone else tho. 🤷🏽♂
F the Vice grips on axle bolts. You need a $40 set of nut and bolt extraction sockets. Work wonders on rusty vanagons. Even take off stripped pan head screws that hold brake backing plates on.
nah, we had several sets with us, including a low profile Snapon set- these don't work for this application. The internal ones "SOMETIMES" do but they fully strip the hex or triple square rendering this to be about step X, but because the depth of the head is so shallow, they rarely get enough grip. The external ones do not work, at least none of the ones I have or have ever tried- as there isn't sufficient space space due to the wall thickness. Especially on the inner CVs where you "Can" get at them with vice grips, its a pretty good option. I've probably taken off 800 axles bolts on vanagons in my life, and I've absolutely tried every tool that I believe exists. If you've got a set that you KNOW works, that fits, that you've used for this application- please, share the link!
@@TheBarefootForge Mine made in China and work great with proper techniques I learned from a vanagon Jedi. Guess you haven't been blessed with his voodoo yet. These just tap right on the outside and are highly effective. Onwards with your vice grips then .One day you will see the light or maybe not....
How many doors have you knocked on asking strangers if they know anyone with a vanagon? Until you’re at that point, you’re paying full market price for vehicles that are for sale and listed….. which isn’t what we do. They’re out there! Start shaking the bushes!
@@TheBarefootForge cool We had a '72 bus when I was a kid so last year (pandemic etc) I found an '86 westfalia on Vancouver Island for$10k. I flew out there and drove it home. I'm not as adventurous as you guys but I'm trippin on the Vanagon. Maybe next summer I'll meet up with you guys. Love the channel
Because that’s how we dropped it off. The day we tucked it away we were pretty exhausted, and then spent a year wishing it wasn’t on a trailer in the barn. Lol
Sadly, you won’t find gowesty or anyone else selling a fully rebuilt trans outright with no core for $7k these days, that number is closer to $10-12k. You’ve got to have a core to have a trans. Yep, two busses for $1200 so this one was $600. This is one of several spare transmissions I am proud to own. : ) My plan is to send off all my cores and trade for a few of them returned rebuilt.
Pleeaaase slow down your editing so each clip doesn't fade into eachother before you have finished what you are saying! I love all the vanagon content but the simplest thing would make it so much better!
We’d love a volunteer editor! Feel free to send your experience and resume to craig@thebarefootforge.com Or are you just criticizing the single most difficult, time consuming, and frustrating aspect of video making that results in me having 4x as many videos almost ready to go, but sitting in limbo they no one will ever see? That’s your fault! Literally. I’m sure the community is thankful for your view and it’s results. Looking forward to working with you as a volunteer editor!
I just don't understand why I find your videos so interesting and entertaining! But yall are one crazy bunch of guys! Thanks! From Montgomery al 🙏 ❤️
Thanks janese! We definitely have fun and work well as a team! I’m glad we can share it with you!

I want the brown van. I'm looking at video. Wait.....maybe not. Lol
Another great adventure with the lads! I always learn so much about Vanagons when I watch your vids. Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Thanks Jack!
Definitely a good adventure!

Have you not heard curts story? There’s a great video on the story of his bus!
@@TheBarefootForge no...I haven't heard his story

So entertaining. Thanks.
Great Vanagon content even better that it is coming from the northeast! Greetings from NH.
Thanks friend! Gota share the adventures!

@@VanaConn thanks for sharing the product, I want to try it.
Oh wait, no, you just kept it to yourself.
Where do you find these wonderfully madcap insanities?!
I've always wanted one of those, the Westie Synchro has been a long time goal.

We’re based out of Pittsburgh pa.

I like those front seats. Mine don’t have arm rests.
Heck ya- these are super rare. Maybe for sale- want them?
@@TheBarefootForge I would definitely entertain that. You’re in PA, I could visit my sister in Penn hills. I owe her a visit.

I want that diff lock panel
I have several, I’d be glad to sell it!
"plan z"!!!!!🤣
that sounds about right!
Why is it on a trailer in a barn?
Because that’s how we dropped it off. The day we tucked it away we were pretty exhausted, and then spent a year wishing it wasn’t on a trailer in the barn. Lol
Why didn't you just tow the whole thing away?
Because this is the spot we’re storing it, we just wanted the trailer back.
Did I catch 600 for that syncro and another bus? Craziness that trans alone…dang. I’d love to have a spare just don’t want to pay gowesty 7k for it
