  • A short waltz composition made in FL Studio 21 using noire pure for the piano.
in this one, I tried to practice voice leading !!!!
a lot of the time, ill just make my chords without thinking about it, and so i feel having little things to keep in mind while working things out helped this one sound a little more cohesive (???)
either way, its something i had a lot of fun working with, and think ill try to consciously use it more in future songs :)

It's crazy how much difference it makes when you alter certain intervals within a chord. Even on guitar, when you explore variations of a chord, you have the potential to discover beautiful arrpeggios and what I like to call the "secret chords" that David played and it pleased the Lord

wow, low expectations. Not saying this short waltz is bad, just that there is literally thousands of better piano pieces and some of them are even from this very person.
I think you're more speechless about the quickness of those releases, which are, I'll give it to you, pretty cool sounding.
If AZALI spent more time into their pieces, I'm sure they could really make something deeeeeeeeeeeep and meaningful

It essentially comes from choral music styles, and helps give individual parts/voices better continuity without difficult leaps all over the place and makes parts easier to sing. Great to make chord changes feel smoother but also to make individual parts more singable/melodic!

this is really cool!! :D i love the little melodic motif you reuse throughout the piece
also, voice leading is great! I usually do it by imagining my song as a bunch of voices stacked on top of each other, and my objective is to have each voice sound pretty good standalone. i need to get better at using inversions, though, since i tend to use the default root a lot.
some other cool theory concepts are melodic form (sentence form, period form, etc.) and negative harmony!! the latter is what makes the minor four chord (optional add 6) as good as the dominant 7 chord in leading into the root :D there's a whole chart for converting a standard chord into a negative harmony equivalent that provides the same feeling or harmonic pull as the standard chord
