The Stylistics are a Philadelphia soul group that achieved its greatest chart success in the 1970s. They formed in 1968, consisting of singers Russell Thompkins Jr., Herb Murrell, Airrion Love, James Smith, and James Dunn.
Linda Creed wrote this as a tribute to producer Thom Bell as a
gratitude for him believing in her as
a songwriter and producer.
May they both rest in eternal peace.
Thom was a true friend to Linda!

They don't make music like this anymore. This song touches you right to the bottom of your soul & just flutters your heart especially if you're in love with someone that you cherish very deeply. This is when music was REAL MUSIC!

Never heard this version. The song is so hypnotizing. I was a young kid when it came out and it still takes me back to those days. Thanks for posting this version. They definitely don't write them like that anymore. Great musicians playing great music.

@@NorthPhilly-zr7xc This version is a little longer than the version I've always heard. The version I hear fades out probably 45 seconds before this version does. Still a timeless song.
@@pcallas66 Hi Paul. This is the original, full length version, from the 1973 Rockin' Roll Baby album. It was edited down when released as a single, and, when it became a hit in 1974, their record label added the shorter version to the next album, Let's Put It All Together. The single reached #2, blocked by... can you believe it... Billy Don't Be A Hero!

This is how my soulmate made me feel after my son died. He made me smile again. Laugh again. Feel.again, when I thought the rest of my life would be numb. He breathed life into me. I will be forever grateful to him. 💔
The Stylistics will always remind me of the wonderful years in grade school c 1970 - 1976.
My stepfather recently passed and I just suddenly remember this song… it was one of his favorites. The feels….
Today would have been my dearly departed parents 54th wedding anniversary. This was their first dance song.I miss them terribly.
A slow dance with someone close to your heart at the end of the night was incredible. I would start playing these again and believe they would succeed. The gentle warmth of someone next to you was magical. We had the best days, no doubt.. x
Undoubtedly one of the best voices as well as one of the best slow songs of all time. It's magical, unconsciously beautiful music.

Linked on the same single with 'Only For The Children', both awesome tracks. Originally 'Brand New' was the 'B' side.. So different, but both masterpieces. I used to play both, and these tunes bring back memories of times when music was deep and meaningful.. Compare with today? Laughable!

I never knew this band existed until I listened to it on Music Choice Cable TV.
Wow! You've missed a lot. They had many great songs: "You Are Everything", "Break Up to Make Up", "Stop, Look, Listen". Their albums were great, too, including non-single tracks like "Children of the Night", "Payback Is a Dog" & "Only for the Children". Fantastic combination of the Stylistics' singing & Thom Bell's songwriting.
