i've been in the FGC since 2009, and i for real think the community at large has become whinier than ever before. every group of players is just complaining about game balance to get hits on twitter and upvotes on reddit ever since regular patching became a thing. it's very frustrating and has made playing the games and talking to people feel like a legit chore. it's taking the fun out of the game for me, which is extra frustrating as someone who's been enjoying every Tekken game since Tekken 2. glad to see some pushback on all the negativity.
Not saying it isn't a problem overall in the fgc but Tekken's community got it so bad particular. I heard Tk7 was the same way, just constant whining about the game and no enjoyment.
I'm enjoying Tekken 8 like a mug Finally hit purple ranks All your points are valid Far as the match length I'm in a Tekken dojo discord we get some crazy lobbies. All kinds of smoke plus got two close homies I run with for sparring who both are blues.
Back in the day, Japan would have an arcade version of a new Tekken game available for a few years to work out a lot of the kinks. Tekken 8 is the first game with no arcade release, and we all get to be the guinea pigs this time.
I was with you until you said TMM doesnt really share a lot of negativity...that is absolutely not true 😂 But I agree with this take for sure (been playing since Tekken 2).
TMM definitely has had a switch in personality for a while now. He definitely has mellowed out and is more instructive but i can see why some still have a sour taste
I think he means negativity about the state of Tekken 8 overall. He definitely lets it be known when he is unhappy with the game but never have I heard TMM behaving as if 8 is uninspired dogshit like some players
@@Spades20XXyeah he doesn't seem overly negative and still thinks tekken 8 is better than 7. he does mention criticisms but it doesn't seem like he is just there to always be negative he also doesn't seem to like the only negative.
"Heat is not the worst mechanic in the world...." It's going to take a while until something beats Soul Calibur 6's Reversal Edge for that title, I think... Dang... what a way to marr an otherwise amazing game
The same exact cycle like with Tekken 7, but it seems like people are even more impatient now. Season 1 isn’t even over yet, and people are shitting up their backs because they refuse to engage, or not engage, with what we have here. Tekken 7 at a high rank had so many time outs, IIRC, and Tekken 8 ends matches way too fast, but I won’t doom-and-gloom until season 2 shows signs of not changing.
There has not been a moment like lil majin vs jdcr since 8 has come out. Were yall not around for season 1 of tekken 7? Tournaments were hype, the scene was thriving. This is not at all like how 7's season 1 went.
@@joesizzle10lil majin vs jdcr was 3 years into tekken 7s release. Fgc tournaments in general are suffering since covid. Not really indicative of the game itself having problems
@ I remember third strike's evo this year being pretty incredible, so I don't think covid is an excuse anymore. Also, Majin vs Jdcr was season 1, during the first year of tekken 7's worldwide console release, its fair to compare the two. I think if they had made a better game, people wouldn't be acting like this.
Great points, man. I have definitely noticed a difference between old the old heads (Tekken 1 vet here, played them all) and the folks who hopped on from 5 onwards. I love the game, and I’m patient enough to trust through devs to balance things. And the long sets are definitely something I miss.
Great video, first one I've seen from you, subbing for sure. I'm 45, been playing Tekken since Tekken 2's arcade launch (shout out Aladdin's Castle.) It seems to me like most of the negativity comes from pros and streamers whose job it is to play the game 8+ hours a day. It becomes their entire world, the grind takes its toll and they fixate on what they don't like about the game. Then the kids that follow them gleefully regurgitate their talking points all over Reddit, social media, etc and if you consume too much of that it can convince you there's a huge problem when in reality most players just are not good enough for any perceived flaw in the game to matter. So, to your point, people need to chill tf out. Touch some grass, play something else for a bit, maybe interact with people in real life and keep things in perspective. I think Tekken 8 is hella fun and I'm glad they didn't just serve up the same game that they have been since Tekken 5.
@@roderickyoungjr21 They were all over the place as far as I know, it was owned by Namco so Tekken / Soul machines were front and center. I worked at one in the St Louis area, good times.
I’ve always said this as well, SF and MK have far more radical changes between each game. Tekken pros can’t seem to handle change, and it doesn’t help that a lot of the fan base piggy back off their opinions. It’s what ruined TTT2. Now you hear everyone loving and praising TTT2 over a decade later. The big Tekken players like you said are relatively new to the series, a lot of us have been enjoying for 30 years and have seen and evolved with all the changes throughout the series.
Yeah fully agree with you, just a sane take here. It feels so weird watching some pros stream this game while constantly moan and say they hate it. I really enjoy watching people like Landon and Speedkicks. They aren't lying to themselves about the state of the game but they clearly actually enjoy it.
I think this is true. Even when it comes to returning rosters etc. I feel like people who jumped on Tekken 6 onwards have less tolerance for favourites not coming back -- even if they do as DLC later. While playing Tekken 1-4 is sort of felt par for the course.
I agree with everything you said. It feels like people want a perfectly balanced game. Fighting games have never been perfectly balanced there will always be top tiers and low tiers. To be honest this game is surprisingly pretty balanced. Only like 5 characters are just straight up better than the cast but even then you can beat any character if you’re just better/learn the MU and have good fundamentals
Please do more of these I would love to see more of your thoughts on games, though please dont feel pressured to talk about games you dont care about/dont play
I picked up the game got the first time when you were in Sajam Slam 2. It's my first time learning any fighting game and I've been enjoying it a lot (recently hit Fujin). As a new player I've spent a lot of time researching how to play online and the worst part of my Tekken experience so far isn't the game mechanics, but rather the large amount of negativety and complaining about the game mechanics. I'm an older gamer too, playing from a time before internet, before patches etc and it seems like every multiplayer game I've played in recent times has this kinda complaining in one form or another. I literally have to ignore it so it doesn't sour my experience.
I think patch cycles have also spoiled a lot of players. I play a lot of fighting games and in every community there's a decent chunk of people who are unwilling to learn the game as is. They just wish for the games to be different the second they feel an ounce of flaw. Crazy to think pre-2010s, people played fighting games for 5+ years with zero updates unless the devs released an entirely new version of the game(at full price). If something was broken, we just lived with it, lol.
@@valeoncat13 makes me feel like an old man to say this but it isn't crazy at all. Many non-video games have been around for decades without rule changes or patches and still thrive in a competitive environment. e.g. poker, chess, certain sports etc. But I do take your point on the patches. Its a different cultural perspective I suppose.
Coming from someone who's played since arcade Tekken 2 (pre Ver.B), there's a lot of valid points here. Considering the games that I played over the decades and being put in worse situations (from bad game mechanics, to OP moves, Alpha 3 CC, roll cancelling, glitches, etc), I've just been "engineered" to know what's presented to me in a game and deal with it. Feedback is good, and we're in an age where it can be addressed within reason, but I'm not going going crazy over it - there's always going to be something else. And yeah, shout outs to Tekken Zaibatsu (I was "Judgment Day" on the forums). It was pretty dead in the later years, but from 2000-2010, it was THE place to hang out, get strats, tournaments, etc.
I really enjoy watching your Tekken play, and I look forward to the new year. My main complaints about Tekken 8 are, in no particular order: 1. My inputs drop seemingly at random in online play; I have not found any pattern with regard to the network stats, and rollback net code should not drop inputs outside of extreme circumstances. 2. Full-price games should not have cash requirements for virtual currency, if any virtual currency, and a battle pass. That and Heihachi's stage being sold separately indicates that Bandai Namco took all the wrong lessons from Street Fighter V. 3. Heat dash feels like yet another example of the industry's move toward making fucking everything rushdown. Genuinely, Under Night II (an air-dashing anime fighter, kind of Melty Blood lite) is less rushdown oriented than Tekken 8. 4. Rage arts hitting in the air and on the ground, like nonguest-character projectiles, gives Tekken more elements which I have enjoyed being without when playing a 3D fighter instead of a 2D fighter (Really, this hits harder because I switched to Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution after Tekken 3 and fell in love for life.). 5. If we cannot have Mokujin back (Yes, I bought the avatar skin in case some executive demands numbers.), then at least let us main random select in ranked. Street Fighter 6 enables this, thankfully, but the selected character only rerandoms when changing opponents; a new, random character should be selected after every game. 6. While animations continue to be reused, character-customization items have been greatly reduced-now that I finally care about such things.
I was let down by the Tekken online arcade lobby because in SF6 when I'm learning a new character I go there and learn the matchups by playing people as long as they stay. Sucks that Tekken doesn't have that in a easy way.
100% agree about infinite rematches, I’m trying to learn Bryan and I ran into this sick ass Yoshi, didn’t even get a round off the first set but then I caught him again after a few matches and almost won one. Being able to run the same matchup repeatedly would make learning them a lot easier.
Money aside, I recognize the issues people are talking about and they are real things that should probably get changed, but like I'm still having a blast as a newbie to Tekken-long time fg player
I've been feeling this for a minute. Lots and lots of negativity when me personally, I've just been chilling enjoying the game. I even hit God of destruction which was a goal of mine for forever
interesting insight! this all makes me wonder if people just don't feel the same satisfaction they once did when they first learned how to counter strings/learned matchups. i think that since they were good at the older games for so long and got the steady dopamine hits of wins, there's less patience for losing and labbing characters. it's even harder to learn with the tournament rematch system!! i mean i kinda get it though, labbing isn't fun. figuring out how to counter mixups isn't fun, because you have to get whooped by the mixup first! ~.~
Awesome video dude! You made some great points and a great rant from off the top of your head. I’m sure Tekken 8 is only up from here with future seasons! I’m having a great time
This may sound weird but I didn't really get into Tekken until about a year and some change ago. Which Tekken did I start with? The PSP version of Tekken 6, naturally. I was bored and bought a PSP again locally during lockdown and it happened to have a card with a shitton of games, Tekken 6 being one of them. I had sort of observed Tekken 7 when I was going through highschool (I saw eventually that Negan was a guest character, and thought that was cool) but still I hadn't bought a copy because no money. Anyway, lockdown, bored outta my gourd, and spent until 2023 beating old games I'd had in childhood (Lego star wars peeps where u at), and finally decided to check out that little Tekken game I got. I fell in love with it! It was so sick, learning to hit electrics (sometimes) in the break room at work, learning every move on every character, finally saving a bit and buying Tekken 7, learning not to suck and having tons of fun with randos online 💜💜 Idk why I wrote this whole thing but I'll leave it anyway. Ps I hope to be able to afford a new console/PC one day, so I can play 8 and suffer with the rest of you 💜
I dunno if anyone has yet but I would like to point out that this is the VERY FIRST Tekken game that has NOT been in the shall we call it “Arcade Testing Field”. Tekken 7 was the last game to be on an arcade cabinet with just an “Arcade Mode” equipped. Tekken 8 went straight to consoles & Michael Murray stated this at least twice before Tekken 8 hit the market. So they are learning this new method releasing a game to players at home straight away. There will be lots of patches & lots of small nuances to get right/fix. We aren’t even at the 1 year anniversary yet. So there is that to consider.
I started with 3 like a lot of PS1 kids and have mained Yoshi since then. The change from 5 to 6, especially Yoshi, was a huge growing pain for me so I've been through this before. I'm so glad to hear a less hyperbolic opinion on the changes/ongoing development of TK8. Congrats on Top 300 at Evo! Holy shit. 🎉
Most complaints I’m seeing around the FGC are coming from the top-level players having like you said “growing pains”, and everyone beneath them latching onto whatever lukewarm take of the week being thrown around. From complaining about Yoshi because no one expected to learn the match-up to crying over Reina and Jun feeling inadequate because Heihachi’s back and Asuka’s still peak… it’s all just a bunch of nonsense to anyone who just wants to have fun. I think the only genuine and valid complaint is Heihachi’s stage being separate paid DLC from the Season Pass. I gotta admit I was pretty miffed to find that out and still haven’t bought the stage yet because of it.
I think you’re right FD!! Tekken 8 is actually my first since 5 when I was a lil kid lol so I didn’t really know how to play it fr. But I absolutely love T8 im at Raijin with Lars and it’s been a blast. Playing Nina too
Thank you! I've been waiting for someone to say this second is one of those franchises that has had the same meta for years so now that it's finally changed people are failing to adapt which I say good Because not every fighting game sequel should feel the same You should try and do something new in each installment.
I definitely agree that there needs to be a "Lets long form sets" opt in. Maybe it drops out of the ranked system for the rest of the sets. Most games do that best of 3 format these days, gosh guilty gear strive was extremely annoying because you'd have the best of 3 format AND if you ranked out of that floor it'd suddenly it'd break and throw you out of that best of 3! AGH!
Good afternoon FD and thank you for this video 👍🏿. Even I'll never get to that level of GOOD, I still even enjoy playing the small selection of fighting games I have. I enjoy playing online interactions with people even when I'm getting washed or wins. A point I want to make is that I often find myself getting irritated when I hear super talented fgc participants whining about the mechanics of a game when it doesn't benefit them. Mind you, these guys (and women) win money for playing. Developers listen to them and sometimes and those updates end up ruining the game or characters (Lab Coat Android 21) 😢.
Wait, my favorite leftist UA-camr used to be a soul calibur player???? There isn’t a more correct favorite fighting game to have than soul calibur. This is excellent news
I love T8, been playing since the original and this is my favorite. Gorgeous game, feels smooth af, full of game modes. This vibe reminds me of the people who hate leverless controllers. Playing field leveling is never favored by the elites.
I have never felt such a disconnect with the community over a game. I think this game is awesome. What people don't understand is that aggressiveness goes both ways. If you know players are gonna swing you have to do something to stop them. You can't block and hope for them to fuck up. You have to engage and find a pattern to call them out. Theres alot more decision making and I rarely feel like there was nothing I could do differently when I lose. I get that the game is not perfect but I don't think its the 50/50 mash fest everyone claims it is.
100% agreed on the stance thing. It's especially sad to me because it is likely another nail in the coffin for Lei's return, my OG main since Tekken 2.
Sorry for two comments back to back but glad to see someone is old school like me and if you know your way better than your opponent giving them time to breathe and or learn some things. Not saying take it easy on them no sir but sometimes you know they don’t know the match up so I’ll throw out stuff intentionally in hopes they punish me or whatever. I guess i’m one of the few where if it’s our first match ill back off a bit to make sure you good on your connection and buttons. next match i wont but just caring in general nowadays is lost man. Cause i want that person on the other end to get better, I want them to want to win and learn from losing, and then maybe they flip the tables i get smoked now Im gonna learn from them. i think if they made an effort to improve the code, gave better filter/search options and allowed for longer sets that would alleviate a lot of the problems people are having with t8 right now. I dont understand why they going backwards. but anyways im over 40, i played the beta to street fighter 1 😂 there was no six buttons two big pads you had to hit, and been playing tekken since tekken 1 and i def miss that sense of community. anyways just a boomer ranting. Anyone want sets against my fraud ass shaheen i’m down
Honestly when you compare the first year of this game to some of the insane shit in vanilla arcade releases of past Tekken games this game looks like a pretty damn balanced game. I don't remember much of arcade Tekken 7 cause I didn't follow it too close but I do remember vanilla Tekken 5 and Tekken 6 being abominations compared to this first year of Tekken 8. Of course that isn't a perfect defense because you'd expect improvements with core balance as the franchise continues, but people are really out here acting like T8 is unplayably bad or that the top tiers are unbeatable. I know damn well if a patch dropped tomorrow that nerfed the Top 10 in a substantial way a lot of these folks would be logging on in a week or two to complain about whoever takes their place on the proverbial tier list. Like you said, social media encourages toxicity and negativity above all else and when it comes to balance in games the goal post is constantly shifting to whatever the meta is. Gamers have conditioned themselves to literally never be happy with the state of the current game until a sequel comes out, where they will then look back at the game they spent years complaining about and pretend it was sooooo much better. It is so exhausting and while it isn't a perfect parallel by any mean it tires me out in the same way that seeing younger generations grow up to shit on the gens that come after them despite recognizing the toxic and useless pattern of abuse that age based culture wars for what they were when they were the victim. Rambling now, really I just wish people learned that playing a game is supposed to be fun and if you aren't having fun you can always just leave and play something else. T7 still has its servers up if people really are missing it that bad and games like T6 and Tag 2 are playable online in emulators if they wanna go even further back.
This is been my journey. I think a lot of people are just burnt on tekken and have poor impulse control so they cant quit. I also dont mind the microtransaction. I buy what i like skip what i dont. In Tekken 1 whatever outfits the characters came with, that was it. In tekken 3 if wanted to wear an outfit from tekken 1 or 2 that was never going to be an option until maybe the next game came out in couple of years. So the Tekken shop is fulfilling a very real fantasy for me as an adult with disposable income and impulse control.
Lol those Nina chain throw animations drive me nuts, glad I'm not the only one. Every time a new Tekken comes out, one of the things I always end up checking is if they've touched those anims up, but nope, she twists her own ankle up every time 😅
I’ve been playing Tekken since 4. Tekken 5 is peak imo. I main Lars (feel free to boo me lol) and I get that it takes time for a game to become more complete. Surely, T8 is not without its flaws (too many stance characters, Dragunov, not punishing pluggers, Deagunov, not enough custom slots, and did mention Dragunov?) however, I still try to enjoy the game despite it being mad frustrating at times. This is also the first fighting game that I’ve actually invested time into learning, unlike previous games (and Mortal Kombat) where I would just cheese my way through a match. I agree with a lot of what you’ve had to say and I’m looking forward to seeing how this game improves over the course of time. Also, maybe it’s just bias because I main him but, I don’t think Lars is that bad imo. He’s much better than he was in T7 and nowhere near as busted as he was in 6 or Tag2.
I really like the CONCEPT of heat as a chip damage combo extender but heat smash and power crush into heat are what’s ticking me off the most. Lol most likely a skill issue tho
I don't see the upset, although I do agree the microtransactions ie in app purchase content is annoying. For those who don't know; the original tekken outfits in the merch store are sold for each character individually, while there are large packs of costumes available for all characters sold in packs. What that means is, if you want og tekken outfits you're gonna be paying more just to get them for all the fighters. As for fighters themselves I'm not too sure about the nerfs and whatnot. I just can't stand the unfair pairing against ranks that are too far ahead of my pedigree; although I'm so happy I defeated my first Tekken King 😊 Also 12:14 I don't think anyone understands Azucena.
I started playing tekken late, tekken revolution was my 1st tekken. In the past when i was a kid i had played tekken 2, and 4 i think. Though i always preferred mortal kombat. I saw tekken was kind of boring. Now i’m old and i wouldn’t trade tekken for another fighting game. The only fighting game that lets you customize your character. And does not require a lot of execution(some characters) to start playing. Game is not perfect yes, but is still fun to play.
I keep telling myself we’re still in the “arcade phase” of the game. I hope. It’s really fun but needs work. Less stance focus, make it a lil hard to earn that 50/50, and shoot drag and I’m peachy
I deadass stopped playing the game for a bit bc of how much people complained bout dragunov like dam lemme play my character without y’all cryin bout it 😭😭 I ain’t even that good he jus been my main since I started playin Tekken
I felt this way when people were crying about Fahkumram in Tekken 7. Everybody was crying. They aint hate him as bad as Leroy (who ironically is my main now in 8), but they definitely cried alot about Fahk.
I think Tekken 8 is great but the balancing and rollouts for patches needs to be addressed asap. They claim they don’t want major changes to characters during TWT and then they turn around and give Drag new plus frames and Oki. I simply wan’t a rational for the changes and some consistency.
I'm definitely not an expert so take this with a grain of salt, but it reminds me of what happened to Overwatch after it launched, arguably the problems started when they kept trying to appease the esports crowd and cinstantly making changes. Years later it's never gotten the same level of momentum compared to when it launched. I'm not saying this is happening with T8, but there's a risk when you have constant updates. Maybe SF6 has the right idea with only having a small number of patches (although that has its own issues)
Well said my brotha, I couldn’t have said any of that better myself💯💯💯 And I’ve been playing since Tekken 2 and 3. People are SOO spoiled. It’s a blessing that we’re even experiencing an 8th installment💯
Those of us who hate the present gameplay direction of Tekken owe Bandai Namco sweet Fanny Adams - not our gratitude, nor our money, nor support for the current iteration of the game, nothing, zilch, nada.
I miss the defensive dance of Tekken 7. I feel like there were more complex mind games involved and informed decision making in 7 towards the end of its life. I like 8, but I do think there's a lot more guessing involved with both offense and defense.
in general everywhere it’s all negative and bad. my industry has gone to shit from the negativity. I’m def disappointed in tekken 8, for me it’s the match making and not being able to get longer sets. Code could be better, need a wifi filter cause i’m gonna reject, need a disconnect filter cause won’t play a cheater, and i miss longer sets. The lobby is not very intuitive on getting longer sets unless you find someone at a cabinet willing to play a few. But yea man since 2020 idk what happened but the negativity and stress is getting to me and now it’s in the one game i play
also the numbers are actually not that great lately. twitch tekkens numbers have taken a massive massive decline. heihachi brought it back up for a bit but it’s back down again. sf6 has been consistent thru its life span. so the numbers are concerning man. twitch kind of coincides with how well a game is doing and it’s concerning.
You can blame people like me for the costume shit and the Nike foams. I openly stated on stream I'd throw money at the game if old Yoshimitsu fits returned. They listened 😂😂😂😂😂. I ain't buying eddy or genmaji stage though. I kinda hate what they did with raven too. He feels like the riskiest character sometimes.
idk what the deal is. I've been playing since launch and it's pretty much the same level of fun and frustration. still a solid fighting game overall, at least if you're not trying to make a professional career out of it which I'm sure is the case for 95% of the player base.
I started at Tekken 3. I'm trash but I still like that 8 is different than 6 and 7. I didn't really play 5. I kinda really liked 4 and didn't realize that was a controversial opinion.
Main Man has some great T8 takes. I remember fighting him and he gave me great advice while praising my Asuka's Unga Bunganess. Also, I'm not jumping on the hate bang wagon yet since the game is still in its "Arcade" phase. I will say the game is too aggro for my taste, but over time the game will get more polished and will be in the right place over time. Oh yeah, F*ck Yoshi, demoted my ass from Tekken God, then 1 and done'd me 🤣...
Ok i got things I agree with things I don't. Heat is not really a problem outside of certain characters. Like I see leo, Lars or Jin go into heat and I'm not that pressed. Xiaoyu on the other hand is a pain. I think the fact that most heat bursts force a 50/50 on block is terrible. I've been playing tekken since like 3, but this is the first one I've really take seriously I'm a scrub in most senses of the word. How ever I've been play other games more at a competitive level for years one one thing I know is no one likes being put in a situation or forcing a situation where the only counter play is to guess. It's why street fighter fans hate throw loops. Tekken 8 has a big guessing problem where there is no read it's just. "hold this mix up and better guess right". There has been a trend in fighting games since about 2016 where aggression is the primary selling point, they want new players to feel powerful with overwhelming offense as fast as possible so a good chunk of depth and player expression has kinda taken a back seat. Fans like watching volitity so that's how the games are designed now. This this kinda hurts the intetermediate play there most because they haven't broken that ceiling of being really good, but they know their losing to some bullshit, and can't put the final puzzle piece in place yet and there for are more likely to fall off first. Then the csusals will be close behind when the cheap shit that carried them far beyond where they should be either gets nerfed or the people that are most suseptible to leave. Kinda think that's why more people play sf6 over T8 atm the robbery doesn't feel as bad and a tournament style ranked system fits a game better if it had less knowledge checks to deal with. Honestly I don't think ranks format should change, but the point system needs a major overhaul having better conveyance over how point distributions work and adjusting the prowess system would go a long way. Like ranked should be sweaty and tough it's ranked best 2 of 3 makes sense I theory it's not the mode you use to learn it's the mode you use to test. Now I have no idea why quick match is designed the same way. Quick match being best 2-3 is crazy. For one it should be quick match it should just be casual match make it so you can rematch as much as you want and even put like a mini character select in there boom problem solved. Honestly tekkens 8s online needs a overall rework. The net code itself is amazing, but systems and infrastructure leave much to be desired. I legit do not know why I haven't gone back to sf6 or kof 15 instead of playing this game it's like crack I swear. Damn you Bryan.
Reduce rage to once per game instead of every round and make all heat smashes -10. Balance the characters, and make ranked so you only get points after a set is won instead of after individual games. Friendly rematch in ranked would be great as well
"Algorithms pushing negativity". Yeah, that part. Ranting about a game (even if the content creator plays it 24/7) is more interesting than actually playing the game
I have watched FD talk about and play Tekken 8 more than I myself have played Tekken in the past decade 🤣
I've never owned a fighting game, but here I am watching another video about them.
Its insane that casuals and the lounge don't have infinite rematch. I kind of get it for ranked, but for those other modes...
The real travesty that Happen in modern tekken is the Lack of Customization. I want t6 lol of customization back
Absolutely! Tekken 6 had character specific costumes too. That made it unique.
i've been in the FGC since 2009, and i for real think the community at large has become whinier than ever before. every group of players is just complaining about game balance to get hits on twitter and upvotes on reddit ever since regular patching became a thing. it's very frustrating and has made playing the games and talking to people feel like a legit chore. it's taking the fun out of the game for me, which is extra frustrating as someone who's been enjoying every Tekken game since Tekken 2. glad to see some pushback on all the negativity.
Yeah needs a bigger platform than just me and SK doing random posts about it in our small corner of the net.
Not saying it isn't a problem overall in the fgc but Tekken's community got it so bad particular. I heard Tk7 was the same way, just constant whining about the game and no enjoyment.

"Heat is not the worst mechanic in the world...."
It's going to take a while until something beats Soul Calibur 6's Reversal Edge for that title, I think... Dang... what a way to marr an otherwise amazing game
Fighting game discourse truly os a flat circle
There has not been a moment like lil majin vs jdcr since 8 has come out. Were yall not around for season 1 of tekken 7? Tournaments were hype, the scene was thriving. This is not at all like how 7's season 1 went.
That’s a lie tekken season 1-3 was received well and saved tekken the first season is t even done yet and the game is getting cooked 🗑️
ALADDIN'S CASTLE!!! OMG! I thought it was just a KY franchise!
@@roderickyoungjr21 They were all over the place as far as I know, it was owned by Namco so Tekken / Soul machines were front and center. I worked at one in the St Louis area, good times.
I just started learning Soul Caliber 6 with my friends. Some of my tekken knowledge transfers, it's great to see
I’ve always said this as well, SF and MK have far more radical changes between each game.
More TEKKEN content. Love the takes, agree with all of them really
I had noooo idea you were a fighting game guy! This put a smile on my face.
This is my first Tekken, and I'm having a blast
I agree with everything you said. It feels like people want a perfectly balanced game. Fighting games have never been perfectly balanced there will always be top tiers and low tiers. To be honest this game is surprisingly pretty balanced. Only like 5 characters are just straight up better than the cast but even then you can beat any character if you’re just better/learn the MU and have good fundamentals
Please do more of these I would love to see more of your thoughts on games, though please dont feel pressured to talk about games you dont care about/dont play
Love it when fd talks fighting games!!🗣️🔥
Just here to support FD making more gaming/FGC content. Keep it up FD.
My main complaints about Tekken 8 are, in no particular order:
AY YO YOU PLAYING METAPHOR AND YOU ABOUT TO PLAY DRAGON AGE 4!?
Less go Unc a real one, right there witcha
I was let down by the Tekken online arcade lobby because in SF6 when I'm learning a new character I go there and learn the matchups by playing people as long as they stay. Sucks that Tekken doesn't have that in a easy way.
100% agree about infinite rematches, I’m trying to learn Bryan and I ran into this sick ass Yoshi, didn’t even get a round off the first set but then I caught him again after a few matches and almost won one. Being able to run the same matchup repeatedly would make learning them a lot easier.
Damn, RIP Tekken Zaibatsu frfr
I will say avoiding the puddle aris was right about the issue within the community
Money aside,
I recognize the issues people are talking about and they are real things that should probably get changed, but like
I'm still having a blast as a newbie to Tekken-long time fg player
Ayy Soul Calibur mentioned! I played every soul calibur since it was called soul edge 😭 free my man Siegfried and give us soul calibur 7
I've been feeling this for a minute. Lots and lots of negativity when me personally, I've just been chilling enjoying the game. I even hit God of destruction which was a goal of mine for forever
Well done 👍
Congrats!
8 is my first since 3 and I got me excited about fighting games again. I agree 100%
interesting insight! this all makes me wonder if people just don't feel the same satisfaction they once did when they first learned how to counter strings/learned matchups. i think that since they were good at the older games for so long and got the steady dopamine hits of wins, there's less patience for losing and labbing characters. it's even harder to learn with the tournament rematch system!!
i mean i kinda get it though, labbing isn't fun. figuring out how to counter mixups isn't fun, because you have to get whooped by the mixup first! ~.~
That’s crazy. I’m an old man at 37 now and my first tekken was tekken 2 demo disc with the first PlayStation and I been playing it since then.
It was so sick, learning to hit electrics (sometimes) in the break room at work, learning every move on every character, finally saving a bit and buying Tekken 7, learning not to suck and having tons of fun with randos online 💜💜
Idk why I wrote this whole thing but I'll leave it anyway.
Ps I hope to be able to afford a new console/PC one day, so I can play 8 and suffer with the rest of you 💜
finally I get to see an actual reasonable, level headed take in the sea of complainers. thank you FD 😤
I agree with everything in this video. Great take, bro. I'm glad at least someone shares my view.
Didnt they say that they'll be releasing the stage for free at some point?
I think you’re right FD!! Tekken 8 is actually my first since 5 when I was a lil kid lol so I didn’t really know how to play it fr. But I absolutely love T8 im at Raijin with Lars and it’s been a blast. Playing Nina too
I wonder how many cats KBDd out the video when you brought up Tekken 1 😂. You right man, cats gotta chill and just play what they like
I like Tekken 8 more than 7 too and I don't understand all the negativity around the game. I hope it doesn't end up killing the game.
Too many whiny scrubs is what’s going on 💯

I dont understand why they going backwards.
but anyways im over 40, i played the beta to street fighter 1 😂 there was no six buttons two big pads you had to hit, and been playing tekken since tekken 1
and i def miss that sense of community. anyways just a boomer ranting.
T7 still has its servers up if people really are missing it that bad and games like T6 and Tag 2 are playable online in emulators if they wanna go even further back.
dude thank you!! heat is literally a fun mechanic that is refreshing and adds a lot to the game while still keeping the core identity of tekken
Bro I feel the exact same way! Also that Metaphor Refantazip game is dope af
You’re right on the money with this.
41yo, been playing since Tekken 1 here in England. Glad I dropped off when all the dlc, patches, microtransactions started infecting everything
Quick match being ft2 is such a strange thing, let me death match people. Would make ranked ft2 more interesting.
Lol those Nina chain throw animations drive me nuts, glad I'm not the only one. Every time a new Tekken comes out, one of the things I always end up checking is if they've touched those anims up, but nope, she twists her own ankle up every time 😅
The greed is bad, and I'd like more patches.
Still I'd say I'm pretty happy with the actual game.
Need more tekken talk. Still remember my reaction when I found out you actually knew tekken fr
need an fd video about metaphor refantazio… i love the game and its candid explicit discussions about the deep corruption of systemic racism
He’s much better than he was in T7 and nowhere near as busted as he was in 6 or Tag2.
the way lars fans would whine for the entirety of 7's life cycle, you know they were tryna stop hearing about that 😂
The real reason i'm subscribe, games and anime takes.
I just can't stand the unfair pairing against ranks that are too far ahead of my pedigree; although I'm so happy I defeated my first Tekken King 😊
Also 12:14 I don't think anyone understands Azucena.
Fucking PREACH. Subscribed just for this take.
Hot garbage take if you ask me. I'm only going to be tuning into FD Signifier for the politics from now on.
Unc is now FGCsignifier 💪🏾
More tekken content plsss. I’m a azucena main, I would love to see how you play azu
Had idea you were an FGC-head FD, hella based X33
I keep telling myself we’re still in the “arcade phase” of the game. I hope. It’s really fun but needs work. Less stance focus, make it a lil hard to earn that 50/50, and shoot drag and I’m peachy
I deadass stopped playing the game for a bit bc of how much people complained bout dragunov like dam lemme play my character without y’all cryin bout it 😭😭 I ain’t even that good he jus been my main since I started playin Tekken
He’s broken and still top 1 hopefully he gets a meaningful nerf
I've tried and I've tried as much as I can to like Tekken 8 and I just can't find a way to do it.
"Arsenalty"
Ugh I miss Baek Do San. He was my absolute man.
Well said my brotha, I couldn’t have said any of that better myself💯💯💯
And I’ve been playing since Tekken 2 and 3. People are SOO spoiled. It’s a blessing that we’re even experiencing an 8th installment💯
Those of us who hate the present gameplay direction of Tekken owe Bandai Namco sweet Fanny Adams - not our gratitude, nor our money, nor support for the current iteration of the game, nothing, zilch, nada.
first time tekken player i got to tekken emperor and i love the game. like every other fighting game there’s a bunch of bullshit just gotta hold that
I miss the defensive dance of Tekken 7. I feel like there were more complex mind games involved and informed decision making in 7 towards the end of its life.
I like 8, but I do think there's a lot more guessing involved with both offense and defense.
So For Me Outside of Rank I do want the Multiple Rematches like 7 only for quick match now And that should be good enough for me
“I miss Marduk”
Brother we are 2 of like 8 people have that take
in general everywhere it’s all negative and bad. my industry has gone to shit from the negativity.
U want me to chill?
I dont even have *Lei Wulong* bro, and u want me to chill?!
10:44 I STILL remember some of the hour + long sets I played in 7 smh
idk what the deal is. I've been playing since launch and it's pretty much the same level of fun and frustration. still a solid fighting game overall, at least if you're not trying to make a professional career out of it which I'm sure is the case for 95% of the player base.
Definitely waiting for a sale to pick up Metaphor: ReFataldayo. Very interested in that game 😂
I started at Tekken 3. I'm trash but I still like that 8 is different than 6 and 7. I didn't really play 5. I kinda really liked 4 and didn't realize that was a controversial opinion.
My first Tekken was Tekken 2 when my mom bought my dad the playstation back in 1997. I was about 4 years old.
Thing I’ve learned with the FGC online is people are addicted to complaining on Twitter. Like they will be on there more than the game.
"play the game in front of you, not the game you wish you were playing"
That doesn’t fix anything the balancing is still trash
Or just play the game you wish you were playing, like I am.
@@davidparry5310 What's your main tekken right now?
@legosuperbricks9861 Well, I've devoting a lot of time to DR, T6 as well, though not to the same extent.
@@davidparry5310 Could I play with you sometime? I got both games on ps3/rpcs3
This dude is everywhere god damn
