Thanks a lot! Had to use headphones for this one. IMO to my ears by listening the first riff - OG has more clarity, Reissue is sort of muddy and has harsher high-end and the Oxford Drive is darker than both Marshalls but almost as good as the OG...
I had the Oxford Drive which I loved but then I got the reissue one and actually liked quite more? The difference between is like 0.5% and as well been more realistic - Jonny would use any of them live and would sound the same
Great comparison Joe! In my experience I totally agree with your conclusion! I definitely prefer the reissue of the Shredmaster compared to the OG version but David’s Oxford Drive is the winner by far, the additional sounds you can get for less money and compactness just speaks to itself! I never really liked the design of the Shredmaster, although it is indeed a classic design, I just always liked the tonality of the pedal and a year ago I compared them and unfortunately I couldn’t afford David’s pedal so I got the RAT instead and I was very pleased by the results, I always loved everything about the RAT especially its tonal flexibility for $60-ish.
oh man! i really need to get at least one of these pedals soon. im using an ehx metal muff, which gets me really close to the JG tone without having humbuckers, but the shredmaster is currently a must have. i bought one from some french guy on reverb, but it arrived non functioning, and when i opened it up to see what was wrong, i saw the entire pcb was melted. i tried getting a refund, and contacted reverb support, but to no avail. at least i could put the knobs on a reissue, or something. have a good day, Joe!
Any chance of a vid using the Oxford Drive to get the right tones for 'Just'? Pretty specific request I know, but I bought one on the strength of your videos and I'm struggling to get it just right (no pun intended).
No worries! For Jonny’s sound? Try the settings in the first example here (bass and treble 1 o clock, contour at 7 o clock (min), gain at 3 o clock, volume near max to taste). That’s pretty much my favorite way to set it also.
Hey Joe, have you or anybody you know used the Oxford drive live? I’ve had issues with the big muff live with it getting to do anything in the mix and I worry the Oxford drive won’t sound as amazing as it does normally in a live setting, thank you!!!
Given that he is also using a slap back delay (likely the Boss RE-20), and those are only through his AC30 amp signal chain, it’s probably more likely he’s using the Boss SD-1 or OD-3 overdrives on that one!
Nice one joe :D I think he Oxford drive sounds best of the three, unrelated I’ve recently finished a tele plus build based on yours, I’ve posted a demo on my channel if you could have a look?
The reissue sounds a little more aggressive while the original and the king of gear have this weird soft aggression that I love ❤️
The OG has a real spongey attack that I really like.

Hi Joe can you please do a cover of bones🙏
Great comparison Joe!

Ah that’s a bummer! Hope you get one sorted soon! ✌️
The reissue is louder but the tone otherwise is the same, interesting.
Now we just need JHS to send you a Hard Drive to compare.
Let's SHREEEEEEED😎 That plastic sound 😊

@@JoeEdelmann3 amazing, thanks 🙏
@@JoeEdelmann3 how would you adjust for Ed's sound?

I’ve used it live a few times and it does great! With the contour at minimum, there’s plenty of mids to cut through the mix. (Unlike most big muffs 😢)
finally!
Love it! The all important question.....what volume did you have the 85 at?
Hahah I feel like barely on 1 - that thing heats up quick!!
Ha I hear ya. When I crank up the volume on the Shredmaster or the Oxford, I barely nudge the volume on the 85 for fear of loosening roof shingles 🤯
To me, Joe Edelmann is the best shred master on UA-cam. Have you tried The Shredder VST?
😅 I haven’t! Is it good?
@@JoeEdelmann3 Yeah I think it sounds close enough, good alternative if you like recording DI guitars
Think I would take the Oxford all else being equal
For Bodysnatchers, is Jonny using a Shredmaster at all or no?

@@JoeEdelmann3 ohh okay thank you Joe!
Man, I don't hear any difference...so...the reissue and the Oxford have done a great job?
They both really have! And the Oxford gives you some additional features and a way better form factor which is nice

Nicely done! It looks and sounds the part! 👏
Thanks! 🤘🏽
