- Here is my 4k video test of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. I shot everything in manual mode which was fantastic. Last shot was at dusk here the light was a little low and you could see some grain starting to appear as I had to bump the ISO up to around 200 If I not mistaken. Over all I was extremely impressed with the way this camera performed. Although it may not be a DSLR replacement, as the old saying goes, the best tool for the job is the tool you have with you and chances are you will have your S7 by your side almost always.

No. It's imho the best-in-class in smartphones, pocket-camera's and low-end DSLR's...but....a proper camera outshines the Galaxy S7 by a longshot. The issue with the S7 is the faint fuzzyness in the footage. This can be fixed by recording with a higher bitrate...but on complete automatic you can not do that.

I still have my S7 Edge up to this day as my extra phone (September 2021) I'm thinking of using it as my vlogging camera. These shots still look superb even this 2021.
I have the edge. Video looks great. Especially in this video because the camera is static. It's not as good when moving with the camera. I use 1080p 60fps most if the time on mine as it's the smoothest.

Valter Macario yes it does. camera as good as this, one needs to practice and preplan shots for less post edit. In other words, Camera is better than my current skills.
i have an issue i upload a video that i rec in 4k but didnt upload 4k in youtube ? i uploaded again with my computer and again the 4k video gets 1080 how is this possible how can i proceed
Are you uploading straight from the phone or editing in software and then uploading from there?

How are you dealing with the palm rejection issue?
or the over sensitive screen?
I also focus on photography, so I was annoyed with the over sharpened, over saturated. over contrasty JPGs.
These three things were really apparent on my s7e, so I traded it for an iPhone 6s +.
Kinda the opposite lol. but, I'm now selling my iPhone and I'm about to get the s7 (Not the edge version).

Still in 2020 this phones really work better on 4k matters than other phones rn
It's 2024 and still use my S7 for youtube videos not afraid to get it wet drop it or worry about it been snatched out of my hand. Never used cinematic mode but going to try it. Think the audio it records and delivers in standard format is brilliant for my needs why jump on the bandwagon for the most newest and expensive tech... Use what you already own

No profile and no grading. Just straight from the camera.
I'm impressed this comes out of a phone. Period! But there are some slight things to notice and want some feedback of others on. The contrast seems really strong. Meaning the blacks are really dark blacks. Not really good if you want to try and capture some details in the shade. And also noticed the sharpness is usually only fixed on the front or the rear. (Because it can't open to like an 5.6) But some of the edges get blurry. I really hope that with the Galaxy S8 that they will introduce the "rumored" better camera. This is already in my opinion the BEST camera in a phone but I'm really expecting more from Samsung. If they do get the "rumored" 4K screen than the camera quality will need to match or otherwise we will surely notice it.

Im hoping that the S8 really takes the camera to the next level. I just got the iPhone 7 Plus and while it really isnt anything spectacular, having that 56 mm equivalent second lens for some zoomed shots is really nice.

OIS (optical image stabilization) is hardware so it is always ON with the Galaxy S7. However, additional stabilization is provided digitally with EIS (electronic image stabilization) when shooting in 1080p (HD) or lower resolution. But when you shoot in 4K, EIS is disabled, so you only get half the stabilization (OIS).

+Reggie MCH Thanks for watching! I used Adobe Premiere Pro and just cropped the top and bottom of the video to make the bars. The camera did most of the work though, I didn't do any color grading or color correction.

great video! i wonder though, if you get the same quality when filming with the phone in your hands and walking around! looks like all the shots were stationary, which make for a stress free image stabilization. regardless, thx for sharing, very nice. Phone camera are becoming pretty insane
And I just realized I don't need to run out and buy an expensive camera. I've always known my s7 edge was bad ass. But this just confirms what I already knew. Money saved
This doesn't test the stabilisation, it is almost like still photos with objects and people moving around. You guys need to test the video capabilities more by walking briskly and possibly running as well. It has great quality like most other high end phones really that can record 1080p and 4k. The stabilisation is the difference really for video top performance, the dynamic range on the s7 edge I must say is incredible too.

I wanted to showcase untouched 4K footage to show what you could expect from 4K video straight from the phone. I do agree that stabilization is important, I just wasn't testing that in this particular video.

Looks incredible! I recently purchased the same phone but I'm having a problem with the AF constantly refocusing. It zooms in and out to focus on an object and looks terrible when I'm shooting video. Any idea on how to fix that? I use it for a cooking channel
+Courtney Budzyn thanks for watching 😄! So what I would suggest is using manual focus instead of auto. I think they tried to make auto focus so fast on this phone that it maybe hunts a little to much to make sure it's focused on what you want it to. If you use manual focus you will have more control and will be able to lock the focus in to what you want and won't have to worry about the camera trying to guess you want it to focus. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the clips. Just put the clips together not color grading or color correction.

+CaviarHD Hey that's for watching! The only thing I used in this video for stabilization was a tripod. At the very beginning the shot I have going over the bridge was just the phone in a car mount. I did that on purpose to test and see how the footage would look and it came out pretty good. The rest was just tripod.

impressive! i have the lg v10 and love its pro cinema mode especially with the 24fps frame rate for cinematic mode and how well the UI was designed for easy manual focusing and awesome audio controls . then i bought the s7 edge as i needed a change. also bought the samsung wide and tele lenses as my moment lenses are not compatible with the s7 edge. (still have my V10) s7 edge is nice..but the edges are so sensitive. I was debating for the past 2 weeks to exchange the s7 edge and go for the note 7 instead (the edges have a straighter edge before it curves to prevent accidental touches on the screen like the s7 edge)..or wait for the LG v20 (but so far no major leaks of major improvements). However, after watching your film with the s7.. i was very impressed and thinking of staying with the galaxy line and buy the note 7!!! any additional thoughts/ suggestions/recommendations with filming with the s7? or any tools you recommend for it? slider? gimbal? etc??

+Nik Vogrinec (DarkPwnsSeeds) Hi Nik, so I actually used my tripod to get that shot. It is the manfrotto 055x and it has a telescoping portion that I was able to smoothly lower while the phone was on the tripod. Then in my editing software Premier Pro CC I reversed the clip.

I'm watching on an s7. If I'm not mistaken, it's supposed to play 4k video, but the most I can do is 1440p. I've seen a lot of other people saying this too so is it a problem with the UA-cam app, or is it region restricted?
No, The display on the s7 is only 2k so from what I understand, the UA-cam app will only give you the option to play as high as 1440. Thanks for watching!

Yes you can watch it in 4k but it will downscale it to 2k. Watching in 4k is better than watching in 2k though as it is slightly sharper when it is downscaled

I don't think they're black borders; they're actuallly the frame or the size (resolution) of the the desired settings of a camera, it just looks like it has border because the frame of the videos in UA-cam and all other devices have this somewhat regular frame because those frames or "black borders" that called and that you saw in this video is specifically meant for a "movie" type of feel or in other words "cinematic" this is mostly used when watching movies wether it's on your t. v, computer or phone, tablet, etc.

4k 30fps is nice but i dont know what happens to the camera of edge when change it to 1080 60 fps>?
the screen on the s7 only supports up to 4k. to watch this video in 4k you will need a 4k monitor or tv
Wich program you used to edit?
I tried Cinema4k, FilmicPro, and OpenCamera. The first two professional apps were giving me drastically different frame rates, sometimes dropping as low as 17fps despite phone just having a factory reset and no other apps open. Did you deal with those issues, and if so how did you get around it? GREAT LOOKING VIDEO by the way.
