Rehman Medical Institute has one of the top kidney transplant facility in Pakistan, where highly qualified kidney transplant team of surgeons, nephrologists and efficient supporting staff make sure to provide best transplant care to the donor and recipient pre, post and during the surgery. The success rate of our Kidney Transplant Unit matches international standards with 96% healthy recoveries, living their best life now. Kidney transplant is the only permanent procedure for curing Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) where the kidneys function very slowly and very inefficiently which is painful and damaging for a person’s overall health. Usually CKD patients opt for dialysis, but it can be a painful, expensive and temporary solution to the problem. CKD can cause eventual kidney failure, also known as End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) where the kidneys stops functioning at all and may end up fatal.

Stats for Kidney transplant in RMI
Since January 2019 till date, we have performed more than 100 surgeries. RMI has catered patients from all over the KP, including Orakzai Agency, Mardan, Swat, Mansehra and Kohat and even Karachi. Some of these cases were of high risk having diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. So far, our youngest patient for surgery was 13 years and the oldest 55 years. The success rate of our Kidney Transplant Unit matches international standards.
What kind of lifestyle changes do you need to make?
The only other lifestyle change we encourage is for transplant patients not to be involved in contact sports. We recommend that you stay active, avoid smoking and alcohol, and stick to a healthy diet.
What are the advantages of living donation?
There are three advantages to living donations versus getting a deceased donor kidney:
Getting a kidney from a spouse or relative is often quicker. A kidney from a living donor is completely healthy. They are known to work better and longer than deceased donor kidneys.
Are there age limits or medical conditions that rule out organ transplantation?
There is no upper age limit for kidney transplantation although it is important that whenever it is considered, the potential benefits should outweigh the disadvantages. The transplant operation and the subsequent treatment can be testing and therefore a patient needs to be fit enough to withstand the entire process. The decision on the appropriateness of transplant surgery is made by the individual concerned in consultation with their doctors.
