I'm so excited I found you guys. I'm a 29 year old bar manager in Manchester that grew up on UK grime and rap and I only really watch the two goats 🐐 of UK reactions KSO Big dipper and Scruface Jean. Theres a couple more but they're the best. Just putting all my UK boys onto to them too if you really want reactor from the cloth. I didn't think I'd find another quality reaction channel until I found you guys. I've just binge watched your Dave reactions till 7am and I'm gonna catch up on your UK reactions tomorrow.
Us UK fans are loyal and if you put out 2/3 UK reactions a day I guarantee me and all the other real ones will watch them start to end every day and keep checking UA-cam to see if you've dropped any UK stuff yet.
But lemme try break the scene down from my perspective so you guys can try to understand some more. I know you read these comments and you're literally the most active I've seen and I respect you taking the time out to do that. I wanna try and give you a basic rundown of the scene because you don't know until you know right?
So the UK scene started from garage which is a funky type of electronic music with a distinct sound similar to dnb. From there grime emerged which is its own style and very different from conventional UK rap. The tempo is 140 bpm and has Jamaican and garage influences with heavy bass and crazy drums.
UK grime artists have a very distinct flow very different to US rap its its own style and was never really influenced by that although it may share similarities. But grime flow tend to be skippy, off beat sometimes, crazy. UK rappers did start with American accents at first but that quickly changed when they used there own accent and found their voice. That when grime was born. It was in the early 2000's. Some classic artists and tracks and I know my people will add to this list but,
Ghetts- he is the goat for me. His early grime was very aggressive and fast. It would be quite hard for you guys to hear and catch it properly right now, not saying you wouldn't but his latest stuff is his best. He's evolved alot from his beginnings and now doesn't have the same flow or energy but he's just the absolute goat when it comes to fire bars within a crazy pocket that no one else in the world is in. Its over more modern rap beats now. He rivals and sometimes surpasses Dave when we're talking about pure hard bars.
Start with his Daily Duppy. This platform puts visuals that help you catch the bars. Then his mad about bars followed by his grmdaily 5mil subs freestyle.
This is a must straight away. You will love it.
Another is JME, he was my favourite growing up I know the lyrics word for word to so many songs. He's pure grime and easier to understand than Ghetts used to be. Start with 96 bars of revenge my favourite from him. Then integrity.
Wiley is widely considered the originator of the scene and has the most 'classic' grime flow. Can't think of a song right now I personally never listened to him often enough but it's definitely worth reacting to for more knowledge on the history.
Skepta was the most popular artist been in the game since the start and one of the first to cross over to the US. Check out Shutdown. Also one of the biggest things to happen at the time was Skepta's battle with Devilman. There was a series called Lord of the mics which was in a rapper/producer called Jammers basement. This was where the legends of the UK scene battled each other but it was more of who had the better bars than going after each other which they still did. Legends being
    Skepta
    Ghetts
    Kano
Bashy had so much potential but disappeared.
    Wiley
    and loads more.
Skepta vs Devilman was important because Devilman was from Birmingham. The UK scene was dominated by rappers from London but up north in Birmingham where I grew up we had some absolute beasts that weren't getting the same recognition. Such as Sox and Jaykae. This clash put Birmingham on the map. In my opinion Devilman won but maybe I'm biased.
More recently Stormzy became the king of grime and went mainstream. One of the first to take actual grime to that level. Others previously had found success jumping on pop songs such as an artist called Chipmunk who actually has one of the coldest pens in the scene.
Wiley didn't like that and sent for Stormzy. They clashed. Stormzy won but its definitely worth reacting to. Scruface Jean just did the whole thing but do the due diligence and watch the story behind the beef first. It makes it all make more sense.
Then you need to react to Stormzy vs Chipmunk and their clash stormzy didn't really properly reply he sent indirect which I think you've already reacted to which is Clash with Dave. There's also Skengman with Ghetts. When you get round to it my people will guide you in the right direction as what order to watch them all in.
Then after that Chip vs Bugzy Malone. Chip is known for clashing people and alot of people consider him the goat of clashing but that definitely down to perspective. Its worth checking out his Fire in the booth 1 he calls out loads of rappers and sends an open callout to all MC's and Bugzy Malone responded and what follows was probably the best clash the UK scene has ever seen.
Bugzy Malone is from even further up North in Manchester where I now live. London, Birmingham and Manchester are the three biggest cities in the UK in that order. They all have completely different accents to each other and have their own style.
He's a storytelling rapper from the streets listen to M.E.N 1, 2 and 3 and incredible.
The goat of street stories imo is a guy called Potter Payper. He looks like a fat white kid with glasses and like he should t be rapping. But don't let looms deceive you. He's from Essex just outside London and he's really lived that life. His dad from Algeria in Africa and his mums Irish so he's mixed race. But he's been in and out of prison all his life and been making music for years. His albums training day 1,2 and 3 and his last album thanks for waiting are absolute masterpieces and right now I've got these tracks on repeat more than anything. He's certified on the UK scene as really being about it. Start with his first Daily duppy, lemon pepper freestlye. His best song imo is gangsteritus but honestly any track off any album is a certified banger.
Akala has been suggested by a couple but I feel like he's been understated. Let me tell you his fire in the booth part 1 is the most important thing to happen in UK rap history. It is the most powerful piece of artistry we've had at least until Dave started shelling up the scene. But the individual freestyle in terms of message is more powerful than even Black in my honest opinion. Then you have to check out number 4 he absolutely levels up this one is a display of his pure rapping ability.
There are more but this is long enough already.
In terms of UK drill we were originators on the scene and we actually influenced the birth of New York drill and that's a well known fact. Alot of New York drill actually uses UK producers as they birthed the sound. Chicago drill was first but we took the subject matter and created our own Drill which all the other countries that do drill around the world all use the UK style of drill its the most dominant form of drill around the world. It started with groups like 67 with let's lurk and section boys. Harlem Spartens - Kennington where it started is regarded as a classic.
A guy called Abra Cadabra is compared to Pop Smoke and terms of his voice but he came way before him and pop smoke was genuinely influenced by him.
Unknown T is the most unique in drill.
CB is considered by most the current King of drill he's demonic. He's now in Jail for a long time for waving a shotgun at a police officer but he's still releasing music and albums like nothings happened. His case files show he really does what he raps about. Start with his Plugged in. Plugged in is the most popular platform for drill freestlyes raking in millions of views.
The other is a guy called Suspect. He's my personal favourite. His Plugged in with 2smokey is my favourite one you can only find a re-upload because the UK police get them taken down because they're usually talking about real cases even though they use sound effects to censor the names. They use masks aswell to hide their identity although the police always know who they are anyway. But that started when an artist called LD was banned from making drill so he put on a mask changed his name to LD and just said it wasn't him making music even though everyone knew who it was it worked. He is considered the original king of drill before CB.
Other favourite artist is Kwengface his Daily duppy and his Plugged in are an absolute must. He's flow is the best in drill for me although an artist called Gully invented the flow which Kweng acknowledges. The UK is just different with the flows and lyrics were serious about it that's why I don't listen to US drill therye honestly lazy with the flow in my opinion (not all) they don't really care its more just the vibe or whatever. I genuinely feel UK drill is genuinely better than American drill although I understand people's ears are used to different things.
If you read this all the way through I would be amazed haha but I'm high asf so just went off on one a but but I hope you guys have a more complete understanding of UK rap. What I said still only scratches the surface but if you want to go on that ride we'll all be here till the end my guys

Cadet had some great music that's definitely worth listening to, all of them are great but here's a few that really stand out to me:
behind barz - great for the storytelling vibe and the imagery was amazing.
Uber everywhere freestyle - shows him messing about and having fun which is great for seeing how great his personality was
Sl*t freestyle and closure - More storytelling as he talks about his life when he was younger, closure is kind of a part 2.
Advice - summer vibe that he made with deno inbetween shoots of a film called shiros story
Gang gang - talks about the racism with police
Stereotype - another storytelling one, amazing vibe
Corn - friendly banter with his friend on a track
There are other great ones but those are some possible starters if you'd like to check him out!

btw *NEVER* use auto captions like that for UK artists they're never correct they only work on americans, try a lyric video or pull up lyrics on google instead fam 🙂
