Paul's stretch is great, I've had great result creating amazing drones using audio as input and stretch them very far, apply reverb and stretch again and then apply again the reverb. Reverb on the stretched reverb is nice.
Thanks Chris your video inspired me a lot. I used PaulStretch and loaded a sample of a Charango I recorded (A very small like guitar instrument). I reversed the audio and added to paulstretch added some Fragments and Supermassive and modulated EQ bands with random mods also moving the frequencies in Bitwig.
I mean what else could you even add? I could just listen to it like this for an hour straight and never get bored of it, but I happen to love drone music.
Good point! Not speaking for Chris here, but I sometimes do the same, and the thing is that those little touches that, as you mentioned, only change the sounds slightly, are exactly what you're looking for sometimes. Those subtleties when they compound, make the track feel a lot more unpredictable and alive. At least that's what I'm trying to accomplish when I use something like PaulXStretch. I don't aways succeed though 😆
Have you listened with good headphones? I followed along in my Daw and the changes in PaulXStretch brought some interesting variations (harmonics, noise/grit) to the sound for me, more noticeable than here - maybe something gets lost due to Yt compression.
The field recordings really make a basic sound (not specifically the example from the video) sound pristine! I wonder where I can get some variety of them for free or paid
Compression brings up the quietest sound and brings down the level of the highest resulting here in more gain. Highly suggest checking out the "Beginner's Guide to Compression" on the Fabfilter channel. It's great.
ProQ4 does not add any frequency, its only amplifying something that is already there. I am sorry but ProQ4 does not have a sound engine to add anything to the sound.
The voice sample is magnificent. Reminiscent of a Chant.
Very inspiring. Best of both worlds. Love combining field recordings with ambient drones. Frequencies are the key.😉Thanks for sharing

Great stuff. The addition of the bass drone note as an underlayer is a cool idea.
I love that Vital skin, btw. Great quick tutorial.
Great stuff Chris :D
Giving us all the secrets, this is a phenomenal video and expert tutorial on the "Art Of Drone"!

Always a joy to nip in every now again.... Brilliant insight !!!
Looking forward to this!
Great tutorial, great ideas and no fluff. Thanks.

Amazing 🎉
Awesome tutorial!
I wonder why you used PaulXStretch in the first place since the sound which came out if it was more or less the same as the Vital original sound.

Followed this through and added some other bits and bobs, sounds great thanks for the guidance.
Great Tutorial..........
Time to dust off my H4N, get my coat on and head to the local beach, problem is it is near freezing in Scotland and gale force winds are predicted 😆

The link in the description of this video (free to use sounds) is the best I've ever found. Check it out!
For a sound to be perfect, it just needs to be a sound.
Is that eq eight on the main channel ? And if so why eq it that way
I use the Utility template for Ableton Live. All is explained in this video: ua-cam.com/video/DJqt7PT7O3M/v-deo.htmlsi=fErGMNvKkkKeg-ft
Sounds great! What does the compressor do or contribute to the sound?

Which is why I mentioned it's artificially boosting the natural harmonics that are already present.
