HA!I remember watching this in 1978 at a friend's house and we almost died laughing.Such a funny act. This was taped in Raleigh and was sent out to a number of stations in the Carolina's and Virginia so their towns could get ready for when the 'rasslin' shows came to their local arenas.
Now, when you said "rips Greg Valentine's suit", I thought for sure I was gonna hear Flair drop a bunch of fighting words on Greg to make fun of his suit. No, he LITERALLY ripped his damn suit! lmao
+Kendall2001 LIKEWISE! Oh, speaking of comparing today's WWE to the vintage/"old school" wrestling, I wonder JUST HOW MUCH "VINTAGE"/OLD SCHOOL footage does the WWE STILL HAVE IN ITS "VAULTS" or HAVE "TUCKED AWAY" for future releases?
AngelofAnguish I'll bet they have plenty and I honestly don't know what they're waiting for to release some more of it. They owned the Georgia Championship Wrestling library for a hell of a long time and so far they haven't even released on DVD on Georgia Championship Wrestling. They released a DVD on The AWA so why not release one on Georgia Championship Wrestling? Gordon Solie was the best announcer in pro wrestling history and Georgia was ahead of The WWF in that they were the first wrestling promotion to have a cable station that broadcasted them nationwide! I'd love to see the Tommy Rich vs. Buzz Sawyer feud! It's considered by wrestling historians to be one of the 5 best feuds of all time!
*Some of the professional wrestlers were actually what they would call a "hooker", "shooter", or "stretcher", which meant that they would hit really beat you up, hit you, stretch you out, etc. If I am not mistaken, Bobby Duncum, Sr. was such a wrestler.*
His hair actually has some real yellow in it here .... After 1980 he lost whatever real yellow was left in his mop...... Turned into an authentic platinum blond after
How ironic. About 10 years later, Ricky Steamboat does the exact same thing (tears off Flair's clothes)in the squared circle. Just watched it a few days ago here on UA-cam------ RIC FLAIR CALLS OUT RICKY STEAMBOAT -1989 PART 2
On top of being a horrible commentator, David Crockett also commits a crime against fashion with that ridiculous coat. It's like he skinned a couch to wear.
That was a hard slap from flair and an even harder chair shot to the back of flair's head. That is a dangerous chair shot, never to the back of the head. Big time concussions happen that way.
Only way we may someday see The Hat and Robe angle is when WWE makes it available on their network. Assuming that they didn't tape over it back in the eighties. Be positive. After all we got to see Last Battle of Atlanta and that was thought lost forever.
Sadly, a lot of classic TV matches were taped over. That is why there is almost no footage of a lot of matches from Georgia that were taped at TBS in the late 70's.
Dixie May NWA MID ATLANTIC & GEORGIA CHAMPIONSHIP WERE amongst the Best. I do agree that other people have different ideas BUT THESE 2 were MY FAVORITES👍👍 CHARLOTTE, RALEIGH AND GREENSBORO ARENAS OUTSOLD ANYTHING VINNIELAND COULD EVER DO👍👍
@mksrookies On the Flair/Steamboat angle, Jim Crockett had called a local modeling agency and asked them to send their two best models to the WRAL studios. I'm sure that judging by their facial expressions they had no idea what was fixing to happen.
He used to say stuff about Tito Santana that was waaaaay more racist! Are there any of those interviews posted anywhere? Also, speaking of interviews, I remember Rocky Johnson, the Rock's father, giving interviews where he spoke in spanish, am I miss-remembering this?
The wrestler in the ring was Brett Wayne, who would later be revealed as the younger brother of Buzz Sawyer. Buzz had also been in the Mid-Atlantic at the same time as he and Matt Borne were the Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Champions. Another jobber who had a moment of greatest with Flair was Mike Reed. He and another partner were taking on Gene & Ole Anderson when Flair came walking out with a bat. The work was that while they could go at it on house shows, they were forbidden from fighting on TV.
@@anthonyware7116 Yes. But on this, this is a remake of when Ricky Steamboat did the same to Flair. One of those models would later become Steamboat's wife (Bonnie). Crockett notified a modeling agency in Raleigh and told them to send their two best ones to the WRAL studios.
I threw her number away last year, lulz. And how after the chair hit to the head the commentator wanted to say "wow, he actually hit him in the head with a chair really hard."

The U.S. title was a major title back then. Had a great impact in those days.
David Crockett should be ashamed...of that K-mart outfit he has on
Real talk...
@@littlejoey2198 Kmart wouldn't even sell that mess .. Crockett embarrassed himself
@@andrecoleman9200 He bought that at the old Kmart on 74 charlotte ,old charlotte coliseum

LMAO! Literally, son!
Hahahaha
I feel very dissapointed!
One thing in common with these model stand ins...
They never look incredibly concerned that their date is taking an ass kicking right in front of them
brings back a lot of memories....I was watching this when it was actually live.
David Crocket wearing the national flag of Turdistan.
I can't imagine Valentine getting his deposit back on that rented tux.
Greg V was not the best interview ever that's for sure. He could wrestle though
This is the way professional wrestling ought to be! Today's WWE can't touch this!

3:10 classic flair --> "shes very lovely, i gotta give you credit. i threw her number away last year."
Did David Crockett get dressed in the dark before that show? LOL YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESH!!!
His jacket should have been ripped.
He stoled someone's curtains
Looks like hes wearing the amazing technicolor dream coat

The exact Steamboat and Flair angle

The one I want to see is from 1978 when Ricky Steamboat tore the suit off of Rick Flair the first time. That shocked everyone lol.
Mike Pardue
I read somewhere that when he did it in 1989, it wasn’t the first time. It would be something to see.
It’s on UA-cam if you want to see it.
Chair shot looked legit
clipped him good with the edge, that had to hurt

that was a real chair smack, did you see that impact? Botched hit just gave him a real concussion.

Jesus how many times did they do this in Mid Atlantic? Damn!
Almost every Saturday afternoon 1970s & 1980s.
Classic old school NWA Wrestling.👍👑
Who doesn't love this !!!
This is the last time we'd see the classic US belt that Paul Jones, Blackjack Mulligan, and Johnny Valentine once wore.
Sgt. Slaughter wore classic US belt too.
@@anthonyware7116 He wore.the one that had the same style plates as the original, but the belt was black rather than red.
Look at Greg Valentine! He's a baby! He's got some great interviews on youtube.
Wow Greg Valentine sucked at interviews.

J ROZAY You got a point, but he did get better. He had great in ring skills though
But in the ring where it was at.

Actually, Ricky first did the suit tear on Ric in 1978 during their first great feud.
Greg Valentine can wrestle.. but his promos were... neolithic..
He learned from the best his real dad Johnny valentine
In Turdistan , views of the Teeton Toilets are said to be exceptionally fantastic!!

Jay Wilson still better than skinny jeans
Since when did Gilda Radner do wrestling promos? :)
Emmett Wayne before she started on SNL and embarked on a movie career
Take a good look at Bayley in WWE sometime.B.W.
Seems like mid Atlantic did this suit rip angle a half dozen times at least. A year later it was Flair's suit and a year after that it was Piper's.
They had pretty much perfected it by the time that Ric Flair and Magnum T.A. participated in a 1986 Crockett storyline.B.W.
I remember this and when Greg did the same to Ric.
this difinitely came from a bet recording
Now I see why the he's called Slick Rick! That fast slap to the face of Valentine was Slick.

The Toronto U.S title isn't even mentioned in the WWE's website. They really should mention it and the one from the WWWF.

I don't think Duncum lasted much longer in the Mid-Atlantic territory after that chair shot.
Flair brought Blackjack Mulligan back and fought Duncum & Valentine in a series of tag team matches.
