    I had a Tascam 244 Portastudio 4-track cassette recorder - when it 1st came-out. I learned alot about Recording (bouncing & collapsing tracks) on that thing. It gave me hours of creative enjoyment (alone, & with bandmates). We all had-em. oNe LovE from NYC

      @@Gogies777 I do a lot of rock stuff from 70s through early 2000's and also a bit of folk, Americana and ambient. I throw it on my master buss almost always. I'll turn it off for tracking and on to listen back and do quick mixes. I really love the way it helps glue the mix together, It's very subtle but it's magic. I use the Studer for rock stuff and the 440 for folk or Americana. Point to point emulations like this can be very cpu intensive especially if you're using a lot of them. yeah just make a bus for what you want to "sum" like if you have 10 guitar tracks, each with a copy of the tape emulator you can say each one was recorded on tape, and the bus with another copy would be the "bounce" of all the guitar tracks, make a new bus for each "bounce" it'll sound like what you're thinking but it'll probably be a shit ton of CPU without actually bouncing some tracks once you're done, but yeah just think about using the plugin like every time you'd of made a recording, like adding EQ to a bus or whatever, that'd be another print to tape, just a lot of planning

    It will be nice to design a USB device with tape head inputs and outputs connectors that comunicates directly with this software to drive the heads of a tape recorder bypassing the decks' electronics all together, The ideas is that electronics of old tape decks are aging and re-calibrating them requires test tapes and expensive meters and test devices, Yes it's a digital process but has more precision and acuracy than an aging analog circuit board.

    • @searchiemusic
      @searchiemusic 3 роки тому +1

      wow and flutter would be included in the transport emulation, its just very low as the original machines would be. 'lo-fi type' would just constitute a misalignment, and thus just lowpass the signal before it goes into the machine and turn the gain up, even underbias it. tape compression isn't actually compression or limiting, its distortion, thus this would be adding an arbitrary control that isn't actually emulating any tape, compression is limiting designed to eliminate distortion and limiting is clipping designed to reduce distortion. "tape reverb" is not really a thing, unless you're thinking of like frippertronics or something. If you want to use this plugin to create "tape delay" sounds you'd just put a standard mono delay in front of it. I don't know what you mean by convolution in regards to tape? degradation of tape is an incredibly random process that sheds particles from the tape and can leave them on the heads, blocking signal, this response would be dependent on the machine and its entirely mechanical, thus very hard to simulate, its the kind of thing you could creatively apply with a volume automation instead of hoping it randomly spits out something that works. again im not sure what you mean with regards to shimmering, or panning? in regards to tape. Tape reverse would imply the plugin can see into the future, record normally, copy to another track, then reverse it and add the plugin. again, I really have no idea what you mean with regards to inversion of tape, backwards yeah but audio isn't upside down or rightside up, phase reverse isn't a thing you do with a tape machine if you mean that. a real time pitch shift wouldn't sound like an actual tape shift because when you shift pitch with tape it changes the length of the recording, with a real time-audio processing plugin this would mean it would need an audio buffer of lossless wav that would just get bigger and bigger, assume you left the plugin on for an hour with mic noise it'd be slowing down all that audio until you hit stop, and having to store it somewhere. If you wanted to pitch up then it would again, be seeing into the future to play the audio that is about to happen before it does. tape looping would assume the plugin is the one storing the audio. you have to remember that this isn't a /DAW/ its not emulating a /recorder/ its emulating the sonic characteristics of what audio passing through the electronics, and off of the tape would sound like, you have to get creative and put time into working solutions for sound design out based on the limitations of digital audio
