      Is sad but true, thats how the world works and you need to have enough money to enjoy yourself. For example, i loved Mexico, felt safe ans didnt had experience any issues while visiting but i stayed near chapultepec and nicer neighborhoods and only ate in restaurants. Its the same here, you need to look for safe and comfortable to experience a good vacation.
      I feel like the main error people make when going to a new country is trying to shorten expenses to experience " the real culture" while in reaility they are just being cheap and that us okay if they can take it but they are most likely to act like everyone is poor around here just because they stayed in low income areas and that is all they saw.

    I lived in San Jose, near the Sabana park, for about half a year in 2004-2005. I have many good memories from that town. It changed my life. Probably my favorite place in town was the Mercado Central. I used to eat lunch there fairly frequently.

    Yo soy de Chepe, crecí en los barrios del sur, a 5 minutos de la capital, y sí, no todo es bueno en San José, mucho no lo es, pero hoy que ya no vivo allí, extraño mi ciudad y al verla caminar por esos lugares, por los que pasé miles de veces, me entró la nostalgia .. Que bueno que hayan extranjeros que resalten lo bueno de nuestro Chepe, hay que rescatar San José.. Gracias por tan buen vídeo..

      In 1948; Costa Rica abolished the military; and used the money for universal healthcare; and would send the medical students to American universities to further their medical education; and returned to Costa Rica to serve the country.
      Now Costa Rica has a medical tourism industry which attracts medical tourists from all over the world.

    • @CostaRicanVacations
      @CostaRicanVacations  2 роки тому

      Hey Celestine,
      Great question if you are approved for one of the methods of getting residency it will cost somewhere in the region of $1750-$2500 depending on the lawyer you go with. Make sure you find a trusted source. It can take anywhere from 6 to 16 months to get approved as everything takes a little longer in Costa Rica!

    Mi tierra best place to live is actually in the mountains outside the city in Heredia, Alajuela, Cartago and the capital the mountains are usually 35-40 min from the cities, not bad at all and you get the best of both worlds.

    The truth is, if you have money, you will have a great time in almost every place in the world. This video shows San Jose from her perspective, and that's ok. Now as a Costa Rican who lives and works in San jose I can tell you, San Jose centro ''Downtown'' is an ugly place, dirty, full of people trying to sell you shitty things, there are not many restaurants that are good and not over expensive, there are not many cultural activities or nightlife events that you can go to. And, big important thing to know is that Costa Rica is much more expensive than the surrounding countries. One more point I would like to make is that our food is really not that great, I mean if you go to an expensive restaurant and pay for food that has a lot of influences from other countrie's foods then yes, of course, but Costarican food is just not that varied, exotic or good as other countries. For some people reading this comment it might seem like I just want to bash my country, is not that, I am just being honest. Now, if you go to the beaches and have enough money to pay for the hotel, nice food and all that, well thats a different story. As i said before, the quality of your experiences depend a lot on how much money you have in your pocket or as an alternative, If you dont have that much money you could have a friend who is a local and knows how to get around and make the most of your time and money because they already know the city. for example, if i had friends coming here, I would try to take them to the places i know are worth it. Finally there is always the option to come as a backpacker and adventurer and that doesn´t mean is going to be an aweful experience. It will just be real.

      @@zizzte2956 if you dont mind, i have spent a lot of time in costa rica and have traveled to most of the cities...
      I would recommend you go to the pacific coast towards manuel antonio, dominical, uvita, ojochal, etc...
      avoid jaco and tamarindo, unless you like the nightlife and bars, prostitutes, etc... there are some nice towns below Limon too, like Puerto viejo, but i think the pacific side has more to offer...you might like to visit some of the volcanoes in arenal as well, very beautiful and rich with tropical life.

    Muy lindo el video
    Haciendo referencia a ciertos comentarios negativos
    Es cierto también tenemos lugares no tan " agradables" donde desgraciadamente se ve mucha pobreza
    Pero en todos los paises del mundo pasa lo mismo hay pobreza robos, gente sin educación
    Y hablo de países grandes y con poder adquisitivo !!
    Pero nosotros CR. Pequeñito .pero es un país q gozamos de tranquilidad,buen clima y sobre todo la gente Tica educada y amable
    A veces el Turista tiene ha tenido mala experiencia con gente aquí, podría asegurar que no es gente de CR es de otros países pobres como el nuestro q vienen huyendo de sus países donde han sido maltrados !!!! De diferentes formas
    En fin me gustó mucho el video de Anastasia y q siga disfrutando de nuestra patria !!!! 🇨🇷

    Costa Rica is the country where I was born. Nature is great. People (mostly) is kind and have a good heart. But the felony and crime are taking over. Some places in San José are equal or even worse than an open sewer. Any Costa Rican who could be fairly objetive (without nationalism in his/her head), will tell you the same.

    • @anastasiamcculloch4328

      Just like any major city in the world, there are some areas you don't walk around with your iPhone in hand and thousand dollar camera around your neck. You should always be aware of your surroundings and use common sense. Since I moved here, San Jose has become a much safer and worth-while destination, a trend I imagine will only continue as time goes on.

I used to live there 15 years ago, nobody used drugs or it wasn't common, I could be outside my house at 1am with no problem, I never experienced assault. CR was the country it was supposed to be: beautiful and peaceful. The stories I hear from my family now are horrendous. Someone even tried to kidnap my sister's daughter. That's how dangerous it is. oh I also have family in Guanacaste (from my dad's side) and my dad was recently killed by his own son (my step brother I only met when we were 5). He was so deep into drugs and was with drug dealers. So San Jose is not the only place where these things happen. If you live in CR now you probably heard about those news since it was even in tv "son kills his dad" and buried him alive, he beat him up leaving him almost dead, dug a hole in his backyard and buried him.

DO go out and try local restaurants in Jaco Walk, and go to a surf competition at The Backyard Bar in Playa Hermosa a few minutes down the road. DO stop at Tarcoles Bridge to see the wild crocodiles before arriving in Jaco from San Jose.
      DON'Ts - Don't carry large amounts of cash. Don't leave your belongings (including your beverages) unattended. Don't get in to a taxi without negotiating a price to your destination first.
      I think that about covers it but feel free to message me on Facebook if you have any other questions :) Anastasia McCulloch - Travel Specialist - Costa Rican Vacations ;) Pura Vida!!!

      Exacto - Estos son las partes de San Jose donde paso la mayoría de mi tiempo, pero siempre hay partes que no son tan bonitas. Si vamos a ser realistas, hay muchos lugares muchísimo más bellos que Chepe, pero como es mi hogar, tengo cierto cariño por la ciudad. Aun con todas sus fallas.

    • @carl_anderson9315
      @carl_anderson9315 6 років тому +1

      Eso es cierto. Como tico hubo una época en que caminar por la capital casi me deprimía por el grado de descuido, pero por alguna “mágica” razón (talvez perder las elecciones jaja ) el alcalde se San José decidió esta vez meterle un poquito de ganas en invertir en la ciudad (aunque su obsesión con cerrar vías de acceso con paseítos, ciclovías y cuanto invento se le ocurra no se le ha quitado). En todo caso, hoy las calles están más limpias y la plaza de la cultura y está más bonita. Falta muuuuchisimo mas que hacer como sacar los buses de la capital y crear intermodales de autobuses fuera del centro, pero la capital está más agradable, y por fin pude acordarme de lo hermoso que es este país, ya que por un tiempo lo había olvidado.

    • @ticos08

      Araya a sido uno de los mejores alcaldes que a tenido San Jose lo fue la primera vez y su regreso demuestra que bueno es manejando esa ciudad , me parece algun dia puede tambien ser un excelente presidente y eso que no soy liberacionista nada mas que se me hace una persona que de verdad toma en serio su trabajo y lo que le dan a su cargo lo maneja bien , me parece con el Pais puede hacer lo mismo .

    I’ve been to Sabana park many times many years ago that park was the airport in San Jose but never saw a banana or mango tree,last week I saw that they cut downs hundreds of those beautiful cypress trees in the park,what’s up with that???i l noticed around dark hundreds of Ticos come to the park to walk is that a walking club or something??You should mention that San Jose is a world class medical tourism spot...The Cavallini dental clinic being the largest and probably the best of its kind in the world having done over 45000 dental implants...Within walking distance of Sabana park...Loved your video especially since that is the area that I always stay...We are going back in August maybe we will see you..My wife and I walk Sabana park daily also...

    • @CostaRicanVacations
      @CostaRicanVacations  5 років тому

      Glad you guys like La Sabana too! They cut the trees down to make space for more indiginous species as those trees were quite intrusive to there surroundings.

    • @crBudgetWatches
      @crBudgetWatches 5 років тому +1

      The trees are being cut because they were not native species thus they don't give fruits so no birds are attracted to the park. They are being replaced with trees native to the central valley hopefully also mango trees too. No banana trees as San Jose is part of dryforest no rainforest as in South Costa Rica where you can find banana plantations.

      lol yeah or when you get home and find out someone broke into your house and took your tv. That happened to my sister twice, her kids were crying because they didn't have tv no more and her dog who stayed home was hit repeatedly, they took him to the vet immediately. Or my other sister who was pregnant and driving, guys in motorcycles aimed a gun at her, told her to get out of the car and took her to a ATM where they took all her money, happened 3 times to her. Or my brother who was robbed when he got out of the bus, the thieves stole his shoes lmao or a friend who needed to pick something up from her home quickly so she just parked outside her house, sadly she didn't lock her car. She went into her house and was out in less than 2 minutes, when she got out her car wasn't there. Somebody took it. She called the police, the police said that they found the "criminal" but they were asking for $2000 and she was like "why can't you arrest them and give me my car" and they were like "can't do that, the only option is to bring them the money" lmao so she gave the police the money and then they took her where the car was... all that was left was the exterior, there were no wheels, engine, etc so she just gave $2000 to the garbage because she didn't have a car now and the police was like "well, my work here is done, bye" lmao I bet the police were the ones who stole the car and the money. Never in my life I heard of a police officer knowing where the criminal is but doing nothing to catch them, instead they did what the criminal wanted. Some police officers do that when a kid is kidnapped but not a car lmao CR was so beautiful but now it is a place I wouldn't want to live in.
