  • Great tune, widely played on youtube - checkout Brunelik's channel for someone who knows what they are doing. Has 3 sections with different issues - some right hand 2 part writing and some interesting left hand descending lines. This version is in 4 flats - ask if you'd like music in a different key and I'll try to oblige.
    Sheet music is here: play-and-teach....

      Thanks for taking the time to comment. I haven't played for years now (having tried a bunch of other instruments in the meantime). And I'm thinking of starting up again - maybe with a lighter instrument.

      @@playandteach Is there another instrument which you now prefer? In any event, thanks for years of videos that you made.

      @@larrythibault8952 I was a clarinet player, I can play the piano, and have been playing the melodeon instead of the accordion, but I'm quite limited on that. Great fun, but I end up playing music that all sounds the same.

    I assume you mean 'what chord could I substitute' (rather than 'how do I fix the key'), in which case if we are talking about the Gm chord near the end, then the chord progression we need is chord 2 (Gm), for a 2, 5, 1 turnaround. 2, 5, 1 is the most common (for reasons I won't go into). 4, 5, 1 is also common AND 4 shares two of the same notes as 2. In this case it will work fine and it is the Bb major button. Sorry about too much info - but it might help someone else too.

    You could just stick the whole piece up a bass column, do it in C minor instead. Or use an A natural (on the counterbass row on the F column) - you'd have to go back to the Bb afterwards - so the A natural would act as a chromatic decoration (Bb, A, Bb, F, etc). Or ignore the walking bass line completely and stick on the tonic dominant stuff (bass, and 5th). Hope this helps.

    Thanks! Great lesson. However I realized afterwards that the very last bit of the melody is missing, just before coming down: B C# A F# B…

    Great lesson and beautiful tune.
    If anyone has the time to tell me the notes for the little triplets around 9min 10 secs, I'd be very grateful - I can't quite catch them at full speed.
    Thanks again

      Hi, sorry not to be able to help, but i don't own an accordion anymore. I've sold my main box, and now only play the melodeon. I suspect that this piece is set up for keys that only work with a fuller bass set up. You might need to get inventive, but I can't help with that as I don't have an accordion to play.

      Hi again. Sorry I can't help as I don't own an accordion at the moment (and haven't for a few years). I've found that I'm playing smaller and completely different melodeons now. Good luck.

    thanks for the great lesson! my accordion doesn't go down past Eb, was wondering what an easy alternative would be to the Ab in the walking bassline?

  • @playandteach
    @playandteach  11 років тому

    Andy - for some reason it won't let me reply to your triplet question - so here it is as a comment:
    High C, then triplets, Bb, C, Bb, - Ab, Bb, Ab, - G, Ab, G, - F, G, F, - Eb, F, Eb, Db__ then back up to the high C___ Bb

    arrrrgghghhhhh. I have been trying to play for a couple of years now but I just cant work my hands independent of each other. are there techniques to learn because im just getting no where! thanks

    • @playandteach
      @playandteach  10 років тому +1

      Lots - they all take time. Get the left hand going in an oom pah pah pattern over and over. Add the right hand one note at a time - left hand never stops. So with the first 4 bars you'd keep the left hand on the pattern. Right hand one note (then you can try skipping to 4 notes, then 6) the left hand doesn't need to change chord. It's sometimes called chunking. You need one of the two hands to be solid to start with. This is not a very easy tune to play because of the slightly more complicated left hand - the way it walks down.
      Another thing you can do is 2 bars left hand, 4 notes (2 bars in this piece) right hand - just over and over. After a long time, try fooling yourself into putting them together.
      Lastly get the oom pah, pah pattern going in any key, but then try to improvise any old rubbish in the right -- the only thing that matters is a strong rhythm - don't worry about the way the notes fit harmonically.
      Good luck, keep it up.

      Mark I started 2 years ago also but I practice once or twice a week which is not near enough what is necessary. At the beginning I would practice a couple of hours a day and that helped a lot, however I stumbled on duaneschnur.com/accordion/lessons.htm and the lessons are completely free. You will have to put the work in to it of course but it is the biggest help any accordion learner can get without actually paying for lessons. Something I unfortunately could never afford.
      That website along with playandteach channel is going to have you playing some great tunes in no time! If you see some of my videos I took quite some time ago you will find that my bass notes are not correct. I done this back then simply to get my hands used to playing together. Once they were comfortable, I would slowly learn the correct bass notes and add them to the song instead. I don't know if this method will work for you but it done wonders for me to get my hands to sync. Just whatever you do, don't give up! I should add a couple of videos when I have the time, so you can see how much I've progressed compared to how I used to play!
