    If you’re recording, play single coils. If you’re a working weekend musician in the world of compact rigs, it’s hard to hate the 85/15’s
    Great comparison, man. It was exactly what I was looking for.

    • @manifestgtr

      Hell yeah, thanks man…and that’s the point, really. If you need a REAL Strat sound, you use a Strat. If you’re gigging and need some nice, plinky clean sounds, the 85/15s will work out nicely.

    Nice comparison! the PRS is just so versatile. I mean I like them both, they have their use depending on the situation.

      Thanks a lot : )
      Split coils are one of those things where it really just depends on your needs, imo. If you play with a band and just need to collect sounds to pull out of your pocket, split coils are perfect. If you’re looking for *that* sound and don’t need a ton of versatility, single coils are obviously the way to go.

    Great comparison, even though the PRS is a LOT more versatile guitar the sound and tone of a strat it's just incomparable. Just an FYI, rumor says Gilmour played that solo in a 57 LP Goldtop though. 🤘🤘🤙🤙

      Thanks a lot man. I actually found that out 5-10 years ago and it completely blew my mind. I spent the first 20 years of my playing life with that as the “gold standard” single coil tone. When I found out those were p90s, it was a major shock.

      Hell yeah, thanks a lot. My “number one” cu24 has stood solid for over 20 years of hard use. As far as practical, long term investments go for serious guitarists, a cu24 is pretty unimpeachable.

    A phase reverse switch on your PRS could get you close-ish to position 4 & 2 on the Strat: both humbuckers split out of phase

      Back in the 90s, I used to get that song stuck in my head and hum it to myself while paddling my canoe. That was the last time you could disappear for a few hours without a cell phone.

    Totally different, love that Strat tone coming from the Strat. PRS, great guitar but to be honest, it's never going to be a Strat or a Les Paul no matter what you do. Those to brands have a tone all their own just like the PRS has a tone all it's own.

    It's a very fat single coil kinda sound from the PRS, somewhere between a Strat pickup and a P90

    great video and great playing. If I was going to buy just one electric guitar, would you recommend the PRS?

    • @manifestgtr
      @manifestgtr  2 роки тому +2

      Take this with a grain of salt because I’m a major PRS fan but absolutely…especially a model with splitting electronics. It might not recreate certain sounds 100% but it’s a “better” guitar than most and if the sounds are enough to keep a jaded professional like me occupied, they should be enough for most people.

  • @chrisf247

    Not exactly same as a strat, but it does sound like a real single coil to me, which is I think all you could ask for.

    Great video. Thinking about getting a CE 24. I own an American Standard Strat and a PRS S2 Mira. You just can’t beat the playability of a PRS. Curious if that fret wrap helps you much? Does it cut down on noise?

    • @manifestgtr
      @manifestgtr  2 роки тому

      Thanks a lot, man : )
      The wrap probably cuts down on string whine a bit but it’s mostly for quick muting access for recording, etc. The bigger difference comes from muting the trem springs, imo. That really, realllyyy cleans things up if you use a lot of gain or several stages of comp/drive since those springs are in such close proximity to your pickups’ magnetic fields

    I’m curious where you set the height on your 85/15’s? I have the same guitar and have a hard time getting them balanced.

    • @manifestgtr
      @manifestgtr  3 місяці тому

      I keep mine a liiiiittle higher than factory but that’s so it can hit my pedals at the same level as my custom 24 (hfs and vintage bass) which is hotter. My move when adjusting pickup height is to toggle quickly and keep adjusting til my ears only hear a difference in tone. I also like to keep the bass side a TINY bit lower than the treble side…an old “clarity” habit I picked up from playing strats for so many years

    • @jasonmaltz7040
      @jasonmaltz7040 3 місяці тому

      This is what PRS says and I tend to believe them. Things come pretty tight out of their factories:
      Treble Pickup
      2/32” [1.6 mm] on the treble side.
      4/32” [3.2 mm] on the bass side.
      Bass Pickup
      2.5/32” [2 mm] on the treble side.
      4/32” [3.2 mm] on the bass side.

    Try ir with blues drivers on split coil tapa and single coils, it's sound well on Fender sound.

    • @manifestgtr
      @manifestgtr  3 роки тому +3

      Yeah, the Fenders are more single coily but if they weren’t, that’d be pretty bad. I’ve taken the CE out on a few gigs and it’s worth noting…in a band context, the lines get a bit more blurry
