    Hello sir
Many thanks for posting the video, setting up the Sino DRO for Radius display. I had tried countless times to follow the instructions in the manual, without success. And I must say that the procedure in the video is different.
    The best greetings

Hi Paul, I was very happy with the service in trying to resolve this problem. Although communication was very difficult the video's made it very clear.

And for people with budget sino units like 2s ..... if you are in radius mode and want diameter, enter setup and double the x axis value ie set your 5um scales to 10um

Thanks Cam. The video you showed from the supplier allowed me to figure out how to change from radius to diameter mode. I have the manual but it's very poorly written so it was not much help.

Hi Cam, both of my DRO's have a dia, radius icon on the screen, just toggle between the two.
Have to be cautious you have the right selection on the lathe, my cross slide dial is engraved for dia.
My other lathe is set for radius, pain.
Have a look, you may have the icon.

Bummer about the cable, but I see in a future video that you address that. I have some random indicator holder parts that need repairs, I like your bigger thumbwheel/nut idea, going to "appropriate" that one once I have a functional lathe again, lol!

Well, I watched that video five times. I can’t get a direct reading. He goes through the buttons too fast.
One thing about these budget DROs is yeah, they work but I need to program the decimal point position and the direct read.
Still searching for a source to guide me. The directions are worthless

I have mine setup so that a 1mm reading on my DRO actually reduces the Diameter by 1mm. i.e the tool would only move in by 0.5mm. Hope that makes sense All the best

    Hi Cam.
I have a SDS2MS DRO and mine does not have the lathe function come up like yours. As mine came with the lathe i am doubt the Aliexpress customer service is going help but was hoping someone else has the same and has solved this issue?
    Cheers

G'day maartyvb, yes I went through the same thing. As I remember it was a pain, in fact I put a short video together with how I understood it to be and sent it to the manufacturer. He then sent a video back showing me the correct button sequence which worked. I'm on holidays in Sydney for the next two weeks so can have a look when I get home if you don't get a solution beforehand.

G'day Cam. Thanks for the detailed information. I'm very sorry to see that you damaged the cable. My heart sank when I saw that. I think it's time for a Noga magnetic base too (treat yourself). I've enjoyed this DRO series. Cheers, Aaron.

G'Day Aaron, yeah I felt the drag on the Cross Slide and that horrible crunching sound before I saw what had happened. Anyway I think I have a good solution for a repair. The other thing is that where the damage is on that part of the cable will be hidden and protected under the scale.

Hi Cam I just received my new lathe with a SINO DRO. The manual was fairly comprehensive. The cross slide scales are based on diameter measurement as was the DRO. I am used to radius turning so I changed the DRO back to radius (which the manual states is the default). Very simple , took less than a minute. With respect to your linearity issue, my manual states that adjustment of this should be done by the installer. So in this case that's you. Your just have to work out the correction factor (mm/m) plus or minus and enter it into the DRO. Does your manual cover this. Do you want a copy of my manual?

Hi John, thankyou for the reply. I had resolved the radius issue so I'm all good with that. I had an Easson unit from an old Victoria Mill I bought some time ago and have fitted it in place of the Sino DRO but still using the Sino scales. As you would have seen from the video I had drift of around 0.02mm during every a cycle through 4mm of travel. The Easson DRO has absolutely no drift at all. I'd be interested to know if your unit has any drift over say 5mm reading from a fine scale Dial Indicator. When I put my .001" indicator up I couldn't really see any drift but the 1 Um Dial Indicator certainly showed it.

@@camatbattler2233 Hi Cam My DRO is set to 5 micron. I cannot set it lower. I have not got a dial indicator as accurate as yours. I compared readings with two different digital calipers. Over 106mm the difference in readings was 30 microns low for one pair. With the other caliper, measuring over 140mm - 10 micron high. This is a big ask for any caliper as I was cantilevering the body of the instrument The problem with electronic measuring devices is where the manufacturer has set the change point. From my limited experience with weighbridge load cells the change point is not on the zero or grad division. Hope this helps.

Hi Cam . I wonder how the differences would have shown up doing the same test in imperial . Could it be the way the last digit micron read was rounding off with the 5um scales . Would be interesting to see the same test on a 1um scale .
    Cheers .

    • @camatbattler2233
      @camatbattler2233  3 роки тому +1

G'Day Max, I did a quick check last night on the imperial setting with a 1 thou 1" travel indicator. It read perfectly at every 0.1" but it has no where near the same resolution as the 1 micron dial indicator I used on the metric test. I'll set that indicator up and do a conversion from metric to imperial and see how it compares. The other thing I will try is setting up the Easson DRO and see if that shows the same drift as the Sino unit on the Sino scales. As shown, I had a 0.02 drift over 4mm but it did come back to 4.000mm and then started to drift again after that. So I think it will read pretty true over the entire stroke and coming back to zero every 4mm after the 0.02mm drift. Setting up the Easson unit might show if the discrepancy is in the DRO unit or the scales.

G'Day Max just did a check using the Easson DRO with the Sino Scales. There was absolutely no drift throughout the same distances as I did with the Sino DRO. It hit every 0.1mm increment spot on. Felt rock solid. Obvious difference in the quality between the two units.

    Hi Cam,
There's a vid on Blondihacks channel where she shakes down DRO displays. The claim is that there are two main engines driving these displays, no matter what is stamped on the case. I believe that the basic metrology is based on metric and that inbuilt precision makes the last digit unreliable unless you have high end scales. Imperial measurements are generated by an algorithm, which may not always be world class. Similarly , I'm told that in the 1990s and before, PCs got mathematical values for geometric functions from a lookup table rather than calculate them as required. Problem was that one or more of the tables contained incorrect values. I'm a gullible bloke but it tickles me to believe this tale!!!

@@camatbattler2233 That would be a great comparison and would like to see the results. I am in the final stages of deciding which DRO to buy and had looked at the Sino, Ditron and Easson. From what I have read it is a tossup between the Ditron and Easson. The supplier I have been looking at will supply the Ditron with magnetic scales.
