Good to see someone demonstrate the minor caged patterns. You are right, on youtube mostly just the Major scale is focused on. But part of the beauty of the caged system is how it can be broken down into triad shapes as you show thru the different voicings you demonstrate, so it is helpful to become familiar with both major and minor shapes. Good lesson.
Great Video. I need to get back to playing guitar. I have been in a rut since May with work stress, not been listening to music even. Watching you has made me realise where I was and where I am. I need to get back.
The genius of Petty was to write memorable songs regardless of how simple they could be to play. Some musicians seem to go so deep down the rabbit hole of complexity that their music (if that’s what you want to call it) falls flat on the listener and doesn’t resonate. And with Campbell adding such nice touches to the melody it makes for an awesome collaboration. Great vlog and way of showing how it’s done.
The clubhouse! I was lucky enough to visit as a guest of Mike, all the way from the UK. Mike graciously let me play his Broadcaster. The place is amazing, needless to say.
SO TRUE!!!! I've just started playing things in different places to see what happens (after 12 months of memorizing caged) and it's lifted my songs to a brand new level! Great vid mate! And that great wide open... Woh ... Learning that one now lol keep up the great work!!! Thank you 🙏🕊️✨
I believe the Clubhouse was in a Gibson Collection video with Mike Campbell. In the video he showed some of his and Tom's guitars. He said it's where they used to rehearse and said he currently does now with his band The Dirty Knobs.
I remember seeing a video with Cambell where he directly references the caged triads he used in American Girl for the verse, chorus and even how they transitioned into the outro solo. I don’t remember him referencing CAGED specifically, but the concepts were definitely there.🎸
If you are up for trying lesser known but very interesting guitar players, you will find Ariel Minimal classic albums like Quemado with Pez have a really personal sound worth exploring. Also Claudio Marciello on Almafuerte, for example the song Ceibo. These are some serious virtuosos from Argentina. Greetings.
Great channel David! Probably not the video to ask this but I was wondering if you ever thought about doing something on Bill Connors? That guy is a monster guitar player. Very underrated....
Can't help but feel that Tom and Mike had an example they learned this from, think Buddy Holly. He was ahead of them on this with his songs. As were Phil and Don.
Some of Tom Petty's stuff guitar clothing notes are in Nashville with the other great legends there's a display of his things .. club house would be cool to see
Tom dose a song with Dillon Mama put my guns into the ground you can see hes got a SG and if i remember.. Tom is using mostly triads pritty cool he was a musican Dam good too

This was a fantastic lesson. One of the best explanations of the CAGED system. Now I have some work to do. Thank you.
What's up man I will be checking this out over the weekend getting ready to go play a gig, but just the title has my interest geeked.

CAGED leads to triads, and four-note chords (quadrads?) when you want seventh or ninths etc.
