If your car is equipped with a typical VVT or CVVT which is controlled by VVT Solenoid valve, watch the following video for the full diagnostic guide:

Hello, I have a hyundai sonata, the error code p0016 occurred, but I replaced the cvvt with a new one, then when the car is running on the spot, it works normally, but if someone moves, the engine speed increases and the car becomes difficult to move.
what could be the cause of this problem, after a while when driving the car, the same proaes happens, the engine revs at 1000 rpm, when I turn off the engine and start it again, it runs normally
@@vasifsultan4690 Sorry for late reply. Sometimes you might have an intermittent fault so as soon as it happens, Engine Control Module goes for the fail safe mode and you will have that condition you explained. and when you turn off the engine and turn it back on, because fault was there for a moment and it is not active any more, engine will run normally. Another case is when one component is faulty but it is not detectable directly by ECM, so ECM only detect the fault when that component works. So my suggestion is to check the connectors first (for the relevant components as explained in the following video:

Then check the VVT solenoid.
I have a fault that has this code,, and goes into limp mode once you drive it a mile or 2.. I removed timing cover. And timing was out.. hopefully with the good timing its fix today
@@AutomotiveDiagnosis yep car fixed. Was the timing, but I appreciate your info , very good one
Thanks for the video, I've had electronic CVVT a couple of times, is it on both camshafts or just one?
Hi there, normally you see the E-CVVT only on the intake side so far, it means on the exhaust side you still have the conventional CVVT with OCV (VVT solenoid).
How did you find this data for the information??
Very informative video thank you.
Hi there, thanks for the comment. In all these years working in this field, I have always been looking for the manufacturer specifications for any Case to ensure I’m on the right way, so I’m kinda used to doing this ☺️🙏👍
Hi,
I just diagnosed my issue today and got this code P0016 on Kia picanto 2009,
The Speed needle Isn't moving do you think this sounds like a problem with the sensor,
As I am unsure if I would be able to replace myself or would need to send it to a shop.
There is no E-CVVT on that model. You need to watch this video for a bette diagnosis:

Just replaced my camshaft cover assembly due to the E-CVVT oil seal popping out and causing p0010. Now that I replaced the assembly (with new sensor), I am now receiving code p0016. Can this be due to needing a E-CVVT relearning procedure? Thanks!
Will u plz tell which program u use for wiring diagram or which app u used in that video
This program comes with Hyundai and KIA original scan tool software called GDS.
Due to it being E-CVVT and DC motor, will the polarity change on those circuit to rotate E-CVVT in opposite direction?
Which diagnosis tool are you using??
I have several scan tools, for Hyundai and KIA that I explained in this video it’s better to use Korean made scan tools as they are normally better in coverage.
I did the relearn on my 2017 santa fe. Now it always takes a long time to start. I havw done the cranking 2 to 3 times... Long starts and it has not reverted to normal starts. What do you think is the problem?
Hi there, do you still have the code?
And what was your scan tool for relearning? Some scan tools can’t perform the relearning.
These manufacturers find different ways to complicate things in the name of making things better and more efficient. Every time they upgrade to a more technological advanced shxt, it means you gotta check your wallet, because they will break and it will cost you money and time. When i just want a simple bucket on wheels that can traveel at 65 mph on highways. Get me from point A to point B is all i ask.
