Jordan, fascinating look at a major milestone in past cinema history. I'm an Australian and have always loved the old Cinerama process. Never ever got to see movies on that huge wrap around screen. I own "How the West was Won" and "This Is Cinerama" on bluray. Would love to visit this theatre in the States. Was a huge fan of Debbie Reynolds. God Bless her - RIP.What a vivacious gorgeous woman she was, along with her daughter Carrie. Thanks for the upload! James.
Hope you can visit the Seattle Cinerama someday. It was opened as a Cinerama house in 1963 and has since been acquired and significantly upgraded (several times) by Paul Allen, one of the founders of Microsoft. Money well spent (!) - and they can still show films like How The West Was Won in original 3-strip on the huge louvered screen.
I hope that by the time you read this, that you are feeling better and recovering well. I love your faithful companion, he is a cutie! Love watching your great videos!
I remember going to this theatre back in the early 60's. I saw Mad World and How the West was Won. I was just a kid but I remember it very well. So glad you did this, nice to see it is still there!
i used to see movies there all the time in the 1970s and '80s. it looked so much more impressive when there was nothing around it but parking a lot. i drove by it the other day and almost missed it because it's dwarfed by all the other buildings. glad it's still there, though. good job, as always jordan!
I know what it is like I'm gong through a always of depression for some reason this last week or so . Only three more days you will be able to go out drive again . Never thought it could make me sad . Back to the vlog very interesting and informative . Built five years until I was born wow! I love the old school design of the cinerama dome nice to see an old original building still up . RIP Debbie Reynolds 😢 shame you couldn't get to see inside . Well have a great day and hope your feeling happier and better in yourself soon .
+Sally Latham I hope you get to feeling better as well.. these pain meds, I can totally see how they alter your moods (ray combs). Not sure when I will be cleared to work and drive again.. they were supposed to call me back yesterday at some point, but they never did
Thanks Jordan I think it's due to my age too meds may help but the side effects can be a nuisance . That's typical of the doctor you may have to chase them up ; do you get sick pay in USA as we do after a week ?
The two films I saw there were Brainstorm and Eddie and the Cruisers. I remember nothing but parking lots surrounding it for the longest time. Great vlog, loved this theater!
There was a cinerama theater in Disneyland around 1961. No seats, everyone just stood. As I recall, it was a travel log as well as an advertisement for cinerama filming.
Account Account.. I remember that theater in Disneyland. An exhibit of China and the Great Wall of China as well as the Yangtze River. Really nice experience. Then they got rid of it and replaced it with something else like always. Just like they did with the Carousel of Progress exhibit in Disneyland.
In the 80s, I worked at a place called Dubs that was directly behind here on Delongpre, after the last showing they would give us a huge plastic trash bag of popcorn, made night shift much more enjoyable
what a great find. glad they saved it. seems strange they would not have considered all of the extra costs associated with filming and projecting in that format. would probably be interesting to see in action though.
meds can really mess you up. For me Tylenol hated my liver. Every bump hit my body like a bus. On a side note Hitler kept his troops, ordinary housewives, etc on what was billed as a mild relaxant....crystal meth!...under another name,of course. I trust asprin only because so many native cultures brewed their own versions. Yes, I know it has side-effects but at least, non -addictive. huggs, silky
There were a number of Cinerama theaters across the country....Portland, Oregon (Hollywood Theater) , Seattle Cinerama Theater (now restored and operating) and others across the country.
Glad you got your money sorted, sorry your feeling down. A big thank you again for another interesting vlog. l talk about the contents of your vlogs all the time. stuff l would never had known, this is why your vlogs stand out. yours are not like all the rest. 👍👍👍👍
Jordan I'm sorry you had to go through that. I'm glad you're getting some of your money back though. i hope you and Jah have a great day... i love your vlog
+Falcon Lair yes, I saw some photos of the front of it while they were showing Earthquake, so you must have. It's a pretty unique experience, that's for sure
Actually it opened at Grauman's (then Mann's) Chinese Theatre in Sensurround. It then moved across Hollywood Boulevard to the (then) Paramount, which is now Disney's Hollywood showcase, the El Capitan, also presented in Sensurround. I know this to be true because I was working at the Chinese when it opened. So far as I know, it never played at the Dome.
I remember going to the Cinerama Dome to see Deliverance with Burt Reynolds and E.T. The extraterrestrial. Glad your hand situation is a thing of the past. I have Carpul tunnel on both hands. Have my moments but just do the arthritis strength Tylenol for when my arthritis kicks up over the rest of my body. Don’t want to touch Prescrption pain killers. Have had weird side effects myself. So for now over the counter pills will do. Blessings for you, Jah & your family always. Thanks for the fascinating vlogs that you do to keep us engaged with life. ❤️🙏🏻🐕🦺🌴🌻
Hey Jordan! So glad ya got the credit card problem solved. Feel better and heal up real soon! Let your dr know what the meds are doing to you. Maybe he can give you something else. Of course you've got the best 💡 idea ...Get off the stuff and take Extra Strength Tylenol.
+Yolanda De La Zerda no surprise that I talked to the doctors office yesterday, and they were supposed to call me back and let me know when I'd be cleared to work and drive again, and I never got a call back all day.. I talked to them at 9:30am and never heard back
Tuff luck bout no access. The wealth of information u bring to the vlog jordan far exceeds beaurocracy ... ." BARP BARP" I hve a different perspective of LA every vlog i watch. How awesome r u .
i had something similar with my debit card, phone calls to a prison at $20 each. i hope they catch the people that do that stuff. the video was very interesting, i have never heard of cinerama . hope you heal soon and keep up the good work.
I've just been reading about the history of '2001 - A Space Odessy' and it said it was shot in Cinerama. I saw that film when it first opened and there were not 3 projectors even though it was a wide screen. Am I correct in thinking it was never filmed in Cinerama? Thank you !
Even though it was billed as a "Cinerama" film and had its first run in Cinerama theaters, 2001:ASO was filmed in flat Super Panavision (70mm) and special prints were made that counteracted the curvature of the Cinerama screen - sort of like anamorphic CinemaScope, but with far better resolution and sound. The Cinerama prints carried the end credit "In CINERAMA," the flat Super Panavision prints were identified as "In 70mm," and the 35mm print-downs carried no such identification at all. Another example of a "Cinerama" film that was originally "flat" and received a similar treatment is "It's a Mad, Mad ... World." Neither of these ever used the original 3-projector process, which I believe had been abandoned by that time as being too cumbersome and expensive.
@@whhrms More fun trivia in that 2001 also didn't premiere here at the Cinerama Dome but rather at the Warner Pacific Cinerama. It did play here in re-releases, however.
Mad mad mad world was shot on single camera 70 mm. They did away with the three camera setup very quickly. I believe only three or four films were done that way.
Only two narrative films, THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM and HOW THE WEST WAS WON, were shot in 3-strip Cinerama, along with all of the previously made travelogue documentaries.
It's Mad Mad Mad World was not true Cinerama. At that point they went to a process that was supposed to be similar but easier to film with. How The West Was Won was true Cinerama.
Hi Jordan...your fantastic Sweetheart....sorry for your credit card hassle. what a world we live in...good with the bad...take care Jordan...get well soon...just takes time...love your videos :))
It originally opened in 1963 with single projector 70mm Cinerama with IT'S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD, but in 2002 when the Arclight multiplex was built there was a 3-strip conversion done to play original 3-strip prints.
I'm glad u got ur hand taken care of human body is weird thing that grows pimple and wart moles everywhere. Look at ur face it's clean that's a good thing,
I'm loving your channel bro. But seriously depressed? You would be totally screwed if you were in my situation. I'm disabled and depend on a wheelchair and even have a Service Dog. I have a neurological condition. I haven't been able to walk in 6 yrs. Having a surgery on your hand will heal. Seriously bro. nothing to be depressed about. Keep up the great work on your channel. Cheer up man your hand will heal.
Windjammer wasn't a Cinerama movie. It was shot in a process called "Cinemiracle," which was similar to Cinerama in that it used 3 projectors, but different in that the left and right projectors pointed into mirrors which then reflected those images to the screen. There are websites that explain the different "widescreen" formats from back then, how they worked, and how they were different from each other.
It's a shame they just announced that they are being permanently closed. Better hurry and check it out before it's gone
Been there, done that.. rip
i'm sure they'll find a buyer sooner or later, even if arclight goes totally under

So glad the theater was preserved. Great vlog!
+Cakemaster2341 thank you!

Thank you for the historical facts about the cinerama theatre. I saw a shot of it in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Like the Astrodome in Houston! I love it.

+Robert Miller thank you Robert
i think i saw the movie "Earthquake" there when it opened - i remember my car got towed, impossible to understand parking signs
+Falcon Lair yes, I saw some photos of the front of it while they were showing Earthquake, so you must have. It's a pretty unique experience, that's for sure

Expensive theatre. Saw Alien Covenant there 2 weeks ago. $17.75 I think. I'm from British Columbia. That's like $24.00 CND.
Geeez what pain pills did they give you? They make me feel incredibly social and happy!!

so when is this cinema gonna be demolished into rubble to make way for new homes for the homeless as cinema is non-essential.
Now
