I have found a great way to use old dated planners. Every time I get the itch to rebuy one that didn't work or one that is similar, I get out the old one and obsessively experiment with creating different layouts until I rediscover why I didn't like it before 😅
Such a great tip!! However I would definitely convince myself that the reason why the old ones are not working currently is because the dates are wrong and I would have to redate and so and so ... not because the planner doesn't work 😅 so then I would buy a current one, just to see ... and realise that it is still the planner that doesn't work ... and repeat the cycle 😅
Welp. I am watching this video yet again because I am stressed thinking about 2024. I pulled out so many partially used books today and it made me think of this video so I turned it on. 2024 needs to hurry up and get here.
Okay, it’s nice to know that there are others out there who are trying to find their groove with planners! At least you had school to explain why you didn’t complete or continue in planners. I have nothing other than fickleness. You’ll find something that works for you and that will evolve as you do. 👍🏻
Actually, after reading all these kind comments and the messages I got after this video, I feel like there is no need to "explain" why I didn't complete a lot of these - I was experimenting with different kinds that I never had before and it was bound to happen that most of them will not be a perfect fit. The Cousin came close but because of my perfectionism, I can't bear the thought of leaving dated pages blank, no fault to the planner though. But now, because I tried all of these planners, I am pretty sure that the Common Planner will work for me and if I crave other ones next year, I can still get those, just to play around with them. Why not? Planning for me is not just the act of actually planning my life but also a hobby, a passion, I like to play around with paper. So I think, you also don't need an explanation - you are trying to "find your groove" as you were saying, which is totally fine! I think the experimenting will never stop, because our lifes are always changing so the planner that works now, might not work next year or 2 years from now - and I think that is the beauty of it!
Love the Hobonichi cousin - I was overwhelmed by those daily blank pages too - but…. I ended up dividing the page into smaller sections with the goal areas I want to work on (for me: bible passage to read, praying about, gratitude, house cleaning task, a tackle it section, money I spent, self care, health) doing that left me with just a small area for daily journal - and the ability to track / check off goals on a daily basis - it fed my need to list, customize, check off boxes - and really track/plan steps to achieving my goals. I ended up using this more than any other journal/planner I have ever had in my life!
such a good idea!! I am more overwhelmed by having a page dated for every single day - on some days I just don't feel like writing at all but hate the blank pages. however if I do want to write I can fill up a page with journaling! but I love the dividing you do and might try it! ❤️
you don't need to feel guilty about past decisions you can't undo, but you obviously know you should just do what works for you (one book) and should not jump on the bandwagon of having every single planner you see online because of fomo. i suggest you don't buy anything else for the rest of the year!! when you get the urge to buy something else, go back to these 20 planners you bought and never used and add up how much money you already spent on them. that's how I overcome the fomo monster, at least. use what you have, figure out what works for you, and just do that. i just do one book for everything, it's mostly bujo but with my own twists so it works for exactly what I need. i could change things up every month to see what I liked and what didn't work until I got to the sweet spot.
such a good tip, thank you so much! I will definitely not get any more planners this year, I am actually quite content with my planners at the moment and I am also back on my no spend for the rest of the year! I feel like this year I just wanted to try everything to see how I like them and which planner is the best fit for me and know I can confidently say to most of these planners that they are not for me 😅
Nothing to feel embarrassed about. I had to accept that i like to try all the things. I like variety and when i dont have time or if its not working, i put it down. This keeps it fun and it keeps me from feeling burnt out or bored. Love your spreads.
that is such a good mindset, I wish I could be easy on myself like you! but you are totally right and I definitely also learned something from trying so many planners this year! and thank you for the nice compliment on my spreads 💕
**Edit: oh I see that you did exactly that hehe. Good choice. **If you love the Hobo Cousin but don’t like the dated dailies, they can be very overwhelming indeed, then get a Stirling Ink Common Planner A5 or B6! It offers the same layouts as a hobo but no dates in the dailies and a minimal layout without intrusive colours or those useless info pages. I am switching to Stirling Ink for 2024! Can’t wait for it arrive!
Yessss, can't wait for the Common Planner, I already know it will be perfect for my needs. I am currently using an undated B6 for uni, just to play with the system and it is perfect. Love the no stress notes pages in the back!
I stick to a system for the entire year because I'm trying to be more intentional with how I spend my money. Have you tried re-dating the planners that you don't use or creating different layouts in them?
I will stick to one system next year as well! My perfectionism can't deal with redating or using planners in ways they were not intended, sadly. I will just let them go at the end of the year! It was a fun year trying all of these and now I know what I need in a planner!
Next year I will be using a standard TN from Sterling Ink. I have been waiting for this size to come out for a while now and so I'm excited that it's finally available.
yay, I am so happy for you that you finally get the planner you have been waiting for!! I really like the standard TN size as well, I am just not a narrow planner girlie 😅
I absolutely loved this video and can totally relate. Thank you so much for sharing all of these. I too have a ton of planners half or not used. SMH. Currently have an hour to decide on what Common Planner order to place. I haven't used a B6 ever and yours and Theory of Lauren's look sooooo stinking cute!
hello Victoria!! Thank you so much for watching and leaving this kind comment! ❤️ Did you decide to order a B6 or what Common planner did you choose? I am also head over heels for Lauren's planner, I owe my current planner obsession to her 😅
@@Rebeka_Plans I bought an A5 during the preorder and just got a B6 undated in the mail today. TBH I am going to try to finish my Hobonichi Cousin for this year but am glad I have all the stuff I have been ordering for 2024. Why is it so hard to find things that we will use all year long. I have a stack of products just like you and may have this happen again next year lol
I couldn't stop giggling at this video, you sound so cute and relatable. I have to stop myself from buying a new planner. thank you for sharing and for keeping it keeping it real❤
I am currently using B6 common planner but wanted to try a new size .. Ordered my common planner last minute.. got myself a passport, TN standard in compact and full Passport as EDC TN Standard Compact as my daily/functional planner TN Standard Full as my memory keeper/ journaling
Heyhey Joyce!! Your choices sound great! I hope the new sizes work out great for you! I was also eyeing the TN standard size, because I can't with the Weeks size but the TN is a bit bigger but I think narrow planners are just not for me but I can't wait to see how you all use it! ❤️
You learned a lot, hopefully enjoyed some of it, kept track of your tasks and goals and life - that sounds like a win even if some of the planners were fails. I’m playing with my setup but I’m using printables and undated inserts and clearance 2023 stuff so that helps me experiment without the angst. And yes, I’m learning what works for me
thank you so much Lauren, that really means a lot! I tend to beat up myself a lot and I really need to learn to be kinder to myself (working on it in therapy) 😊 now I definitely know which planners don't work for me and why & what I actually need! also: thank you for noticing my nails!! 💕
With the hobonichi weeks and that rectangular style that you don’t like - why not try rotating the book and writing in it landscape? That way you’ve got a wider space that’s more square like between the 2 pages? That works for me anyhoo - I love your layouts - and the health and goal planners gave me lots of ideas - so thank you :)
There is nothing to feel guilty about love, awesome video by the way you have given me some great ideas. I have decided to keep my hobonichi cousin, just one weeks, a commonplace journal, and a self care journal.
Think about this... the planners you didnt use fully, you tried and now know what you dont like or doesnt work. Some people plan for 5 yrs before they know what works. We learn from our mistakes and you would have not known unless you tried them. No more guilt. It was an experiment. I went from 5 planners to only two and works for me. Blessings
Loved your honesty here and also I understand your guilt and embarrassment… I just hope you don’t feel too bad about it. In order to continue the journey of finding the planner that works best for you, you will come across many that are just not it 😅 it’s just normal. I do think the b6 is the right size for you though, since you don’t like A5 cuz it’s too big or weeks cuz it’s too small. Starting July this year I’m using Papertess Designs undated yearly TN. I’m planning on using it until June next year and after that I will just purchase one of her notebooks, plus another one of her undated yearly TN if she’s still selling them by then. TN is just the perfect size for me… not too big, but not as narrow as weeks.
I'm also going from one planner to another.... And I love my $1 grid composition notebook with $1,5 erasable pen.... 😂😂😂😂😂 No pressure.... Just my experiments with different things as a bujo...
You are not alone. I did the same. Almost 9 planners I have used this year alone. Also I got the b6 forest with gold edges and was wanting the khaki cover but thought the same as you, that the greens would not match well. So I am currently on the hunt for a plum.
Oh hello here is well!! Yes, I am still guessing that the greens don't match well, but I am also almost set on selling the B6 and getting a notebook instead for the following setup: A5 common planner for planning and dailies + B6 notebook for collections and lists. Now I just need a nice A5 cover 😅
loved the video - also when you talked about the molskine pocket planners I totally get you in most of the points you made there. especially that nearly no pen is good for that planner. but i have so say I love the daily pocket moleskine planner. I just use a ballpoint pen and nothing else in there and I have to say that right now this is the only planner I am reaching for nearly daily :D
I am so glad the Moleskine Daily works for you!! It is totally personal preference. I hate to write with ballpoint pens, I don't know why and no other pen I actually like to use works in that planner. I think it is super cute and I am sure, I could make it work somehow, but the paper just ruins it for me. Such a bummer.
Great video and very helpful. I definitely reuse old pages/planners to test layout ideas. I’m stilling trying to figure out my planner lineup as well. So much to plan and sooo many planner options 😂
I most definitely have live hate with hobonichi but it pains me to not get anything so I’m trying to find a way … lol 😆 I make no sense either! Thanks for sharing all your planners and journals…. Perhaps some can just be a journal rather than planning tasks. If there’s information that is completely separate it might work!
Now that the previews and infos are coming out, I also kind of want a Hobonichi Weeks or a HON, even though it makes no sense haha 😅 thanks for watching and commenting ❤
I am not a student but I always come back to the Hobonichi Cousin being the most perfect bound planner. That said, I still like to own and use a variety of others each year. For next year I have a spiral hourly planer that I like to keep open to see what my days/week visually look like. I ordered a Wonderland222 B6 planner to use as my main planner and then I will use my personal or A6 rings for tracking various stuff. Oh, and maybe MaskeLife quarterly books for goal setting. It would be the first time in 6 years if I do not end up buying any Hobonichi products as I always buy a Weeks and a Cousin and sometimes their A6 for journaling. Time will tell! Could you pass off some of your abandoned planners to friends who may use them?
I don't have friends who plan 🥲 but I totally get your love for the Hobo products!! the quotes annoy me too much though, so much wasted space, I love my planners more streamlined 😍
The same happened to me this year! I’ve vowed to avoid instagram to stop being influenced to try new planners haha. Because staying in one is the best for me, functionally and financially speaking. Planner-hopping isn’t a hobby I want (others might feel differently, no shade). Aside: I listened to an interview with the author of a book called “Dopamine Nation”, about how modern life has us on the dopamine treadmill for things that otherwise would be good and healthy in moderation - like buying planners.. I’m planning to read it, and hope it will help me chill and just use one planner for a year! The interview was a recent episode of the podcast Hidden Brain. Anyway, I also love the sterling ink planner and fingers-crossed will use it for the rest of this year AND next year.
I am crossing my fingers for you too!! Even though I still feel bad for having so many unused planners sitting around, I still feel like it helped me narrow down what kind of planner I want and need! I will check out the interview you mentioned!
I hate my Moleskine weekly paper as well! I picked it for the layout and its nice color, decorated the cover and all .... and then, from day one, unpleasant surprise. What is that TN-style cover with the zip pouch after 24"?
Right?? What a weird paper! I don't have the same problem in my bullet journal from Moleskine though. Weird. The TN-style cover is actually a TN cover from Aliexpress with a zip pouch that you can wrap around your insert or just put it on a string by itself! Pouch is also from Aliexpress!
Ditch the guilt! You’ve learned about yourself. People may buy ones to try if you didn’t write a ton in. I did that with a B6 Common Planner the second part of the year. She had only written on 2 pages.
I am trying to ditch the guilt 🥲 it is hard with my self-loathing tendencies😅 and a couple people actually offered to buy some from me but there is personal info in there and I also don't want to cut the planners up ... I don't mind them sitting pretty on my desk though ❤️
You might want to watch Becky @ Whoops I did it again co. She is experiencing planner unease and she has a great video on Take a note and planners. From another Rebecca
I'm using B6 undated (july-dec) SI too 🙂 And the struggle here is the same, I also study in university and all planner options are open... Used to have Cousin and even those empty daily pages are the main problem, I'm still considering to get a new one for -24 🤷♀🤦♀
Heyy!! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ❤️ I was considering a Cousin as well because I somehow have an emotional attachement but I know it would stress me out 🥲 But if it does not stress you to fill in the dailies then go for it! I think it is an awesome planner!
It’s not our fault we love these items. The shops have created beautiful books or inserts to help us “organize” our lives. I think it’s just too much stuff out here to choose from. I get overwhelmed with too many options. But 2024 products will be interesting as they release the rest of the year.
You are totally right! I also feel like we are sometimes too hard on ourselves. I enjoyed getting, unpacking and playing with these planners as long as that lasted, so they are not wasted! They brought me joy, until they didn't. Also, they look quite nice on my desk, all lined up 😅 I am super excited for all the other releases this year, I will try reaaaally hard not to get anything else though 🙈
@@Rebeka_Plans I would say set yourself some rules. My main rule next year is no new size. Only use sizes I have covers and dividers for. Just try different vibe of inserts, dashboards and accessories. Hopefully that saves me some money. But just look at what you have and set some boundaries to help with the spending. Oh yeah… give yourself an allowance and only buy what you truly will use within that allowance.
hey!! thank you for the offer but I have a lot of personal info in there so I would like to keep it, sorry! maybe you could buy one off of someone else online? sorry again ❤️
@@Rebeka_Plans Oh of course it totally makes sense that there would be private content. So sorry if I bothered you with my request. I'll order one for next year cause with planners you never know until you try for yourself! Lovely video btw
Trying out planners is nice. I do that too and have multiple half used planners. But I don't understand why people write the same information in multiple planners.
I write the same info in multiple planners for a variety of different reasons: - I like to write and it is good handwriting practice! - My mental health struggles force me to use the planners I bought and since I don't have so many different things to put into my planners I write the same things - I like to decorate and experiment with different planners and layouts and this way I don't have to come up with new things to put in them For me my planners are not just that - they are also my creative hobby and sometimes you just need text to fill up a spread. However I have been in therapy for a while now and I am actively working on letting go of the feeling that I need to fill up my planners - hence this video! ❤
hey!! thanks for the offer however I have a lot of personal info in there and therefore would like to keep it! I hope you find one somewhere else, sorry again ❤️
Maybe instead of ditching your favorite child, lol, since you’re so emotionally attached, you could get to a place of acceptance around blank pages? Your spreads are beautiful and from what I saw, you filled most of the pages. Proportionately, there were way more filled than blank. I don’t know, just a suggestion. I mean, I know you already came up with a solution and will use Sterling Ink, but just wanted to say it.
I totally get your point and do still refer to my Cousin as my favourite child, however it is also a child that stresses me out immensely 🙈 I am working on my mental issues around perfectionism with a therapist and I also have OCD tendencies, so I am trying to accept the blank pages it is just not so easy for me! Hopefully one day I will get there but currently it is just mentally exhausting for me to deal with the emotions around the blank pages 😢
I am so mad after watching this! What an awful waste. 😢 Your style is so nice when you do it - it's just that keeping up with all these planners doesn't make any sense.
sorry for making you mad! it does not make any sense and I am not keeping up with them - I will however use the notes pages so those will not go to waste! I usually don't buy these many planners, I just wanted to try out a couple different brands to see which one I like the most and what I need in a planner!
I have found a great way to use old dated planners. Every time I get the itch to rebuy one that didn't work or one that is similar, I get out the old one and obsessively experiment with creating different layouts until I rediscover why I didn't like it before 😅
I do the same thing. I don’t throw away my abandoned planners, they keep me from re-buying them in the future!
Love this!

10:07 love this bujo!
thank you ❤️
You might want to watch Becky @ Whoops I did it again co. She is experiencing planner unease and she has a great video on Take a note and planners. From another Rebecca
Heyhey another Rebecca!! I will check Becky out! Thanks for the tip! ❤
I am also a limited planner girly. I realized that so fast this year 😅
welcome to the club 😅❤️
Where did you get your tabs in the Cousin?
From SweetFreckledDesigns!
hey could you sell the papertess weekly one? I wanna try but its sold out for this year.
hey!! thank you for the offer but I have a lot of personal info in there so I would like to keep it, sorry! maybe you could buy one off of someone else online? sorry again ❤️
I write the same info in multiple planners for a variety of different reasons:
- I like to write and it is good handwriting practice!
- My mental health struggles force me to use the planners I bought and since I don't have so many different things to put into my planners I write the same things
- I like to decorate and experiment with different planners and layouts and this way I don't have to come up with new things to put in them
For me my planners are not just that - they are also my creative hobby and sometimes you just need text to fill up a spread. However I have been in therapy for a while now and I am actively working on letting go of the feeling that I need to fill up my planners - hence this video! ❤
Where's the braindump notebook from?
Loved this video !! ❤❤❤
Thank you!! ❤
I definitely understand
💕💕
❤ thank you sooooo much for this great video❤
thank YOU for watching and commenting!! 💕
I love that burgundy Moterm cover
Is that the Beetroot color?
now, the color is actually called Burgundy! I think they might have discontinued it for the Weeks
Hello! New subscriber friend 😊love your style
Welcome!! ❤️
If you want to sell the Papertess Design planner I would be interested in buying it off you????
hey!! thanks for the offer however I have a lot of personal info in there and therefore would like to keep it!
Wow
a lot of planners, I know 😅
I love your accent 😊
aww thank you so much!! I am always so self-conscious about it 🙈❤️
@@Rebeka_Plans don’t be ❤️ it’s very endearing 🦊
confusing but i understand, too many choices
I just want to try everything, is that too much to ask for?? 😂
