We are also building a VW Crafter for 5. 3 adults + 2 kids. 3 seats in cab, fold away double seat behind the driver. Fridge and microwave behind the front passenger. Bench seats with a table at rear converting to transverse double. Overhead double bed longitudinal at rear on linear actuators. Shower loo on drivers side. This layout allows seating around a table, and more bench space - above fridge, passenger side with sink and a little behind the shower. But we put 3 into a double bed or one in a pup tent. A hack I like is to extend the floor over the side and rear step voids, then recut in a smaller side step. This gives more floor space and stops stuff from dropping down and being inaccessible. Underbody water tanks specific to the Crafter ladder frame look good.
The best thing about you is that, unlike a lot of people who are, or have done a van build, there is 0% bitching or one-up manship. There's just honesty, hiccups, laughter, sharing of the work, integrity and respect. I can't think of a nicer team. Not brown nosing just saying it like it is.
That was great. It had everything, including questioning, er-ummin, coo-er, really? disappointment and realism. But what it also had was all smiles and laughter plus your bonny optimistic outlook. I've a feeling this one's going to be a bit of alright! You take care... and the Little People too and we'll hope to see you soon. Keep your enthusiasm. That, aswell as happiness, will get you where you want to go. Here's to your next film... but DON'T RUSH!! with love, Pam
Know absolutely nothing when it comes to van builds… but you pair sound like you have a solid plan and are cracking on with it. Huge kudos 🙌 great watch and fascinated to seeing your progress. Well done lovelies 🚐👍🥂
Just a quick bit of info from our build insulate the floor and above the cab you cannot ever put to much insulation and vapour barrier it makes a massive difference.
Layout change sounds good. Will definitely benefit the mini ruks in the future. Keep up the good work lol (sound like a schoolteacher). Take care and stay safe x
Looking good guys . And them floors are propper stuck down arnt they lol felt your pain there . I bet you for more cables lol . Then some more and a few more after that lol
I've just got a vw crafter new shape for my content ;) my 2nd van conversion. I'm struggling with finding a double swivel seat base for the passenger seat
Great vlog guys, fully understand the huge amount of work involved, built out a crafter LWB a year ago and just want to say keep at it, it will soon take shape. If you need any advice or anything just DM us, we are just down in Bridgend.
My wife and I are really enjoying watching your project although we have a motorhome we are really loving your videos from our kitchen ,your both super talented ,looking forward to your next jobs and end result x
Hi really really enjoyed watching your videos looks like it going to look great when it’s done really looking forward to watching your next video keep safe 😷👍🏻
You’re obviously doing meticulous planning for this project. There’s no other way, as you will be wanting the finished job to be as near perfect as possible. Every step is getting you nearer the finishing line. I’ve got to hand it to you for your perseverance, it’ll pay off. I wouldn’t know where to start with a project like this! I look forward to seeing how it all comes together. Lots of people would love to have kids like yours. They help you out so much. It’s a real family affair, which is a lovely thing.
Thank you alasdair, appreciate your lovely comment. The children do a fantastic job and will get stuck in fair play! We have much more to complete hoping to speed things up Over the next two weeks XxRR
😂love the comment about hating the cabling and cleaning. I started helping a friend convert a van during lockdown in the hope I could learn stuff so I can do my own. I absolutely hated every second of it. So I’m just going to save my money and pay someone else to do it 😂😂😂I’m 100% useless at stuff like that, no matter how much I try and kid myself. You are doing a great job….and your kids cleaning 😍😍 little heroes
Live cleaning the house and the van but it was basically muddy slush after the kids had a go and was so sloppy ended up in my knees haha 😆 cabling was awful XxRR
I am just loving how this is going. Hard at the moment to get a clear picture of the finish product. But I am sure it is going to look great when completed.
Love the vlog. Good to see the Kids helping and being part of the fit out. patience and ensuring all rust is removed is important. Looking forward to further vlogs. Cheers Keith Melbourne Australia.
Great progress, its always the prep work that takes the most time but its the most important part, i like the raised chair platform idea poss run blown heating tubes into it 🤔 look forward to next installment keep smiling 😘
Totally fascinated by this series guys, good to watch the progress . You two are buzzing ! . Great to see people being positive at the moment . Looking forward to next week. H and M
Absolutely brilliant job, spaghetti junction with the wiring, I wouldn't know were to start. Question, what silicon did you use around the windows? Great vlog as ever.
this brought back memories of nine months ago.All the stripping out, cleaning, filling holes and pre wiring. I dunno if I'd ever do another and yet, seeing the space in your van has made me contemplate selling viv-i-van once she's fixed and getting a bigger van and doing things a lot differently. As ever, I follow you every week and love the videos. respect and regards-Kenny
Hello folks...That was a great vid with the new plans which sound great.. The wiring is not fun as you have got to figure out where the sockets go and USB ports..Fairplay to the kids for helping out cleaning as you said it's a family project..Don't get down when somethings don't go right this is a brill build to do together.. Great video. Very interesting watching you both work and your planning of the layout. Can't wait to see more progress. Be great if you listed the make of the things like windows etc.

Love the sound of the layout guys. I think it will really work for you 😊 the plastic thing in the roof for the solar - I can confirm ours has the wires at the back the way that Stu was suggesting. Keep up the great work, you will feel so fulfilled when it’s all done 😊 xx
Its looking good..huge well done on everything achieved so far 👍 Liking the new layout design, definitely sounds like the better option for you all 😍xx
We really enjoyed the vlog and to see the butt man has his own clerk of works to keep him right, pleased I am not the only one :) Also pleased to hear the seating for the kids is being done by specialist, safety first guys. Will you be installing any gas appliances , looking forward to next vlog, thank you.
Hi Tom thank you for your comment we want to get it fitted professionally to avoid any problems in future that may arise but no gas in this van it will be al electric xxx
Good luck with the build,I have built a few campers and a trick I use borrowed from my race car builds for the condensation issue on panel van conversions. Before you insulate, spray the inside of exterior panels with under body stone chip.I do it on all of my conversions with great results.
Nice idea with the bunk beds. Have you thought of folding the top 2 bunk beds up to the sides in the daytime, so you have more elbow room to turn round in the kitchen and shower area?
It's coming on well and looking good. I love the new planned build layout and cant wait to see it take shape 🙂 You're both doing well so far and looking forward to the next one 👍
It's interesting the way a build evolves as you go through it. I've been watching Ste and our mate do this MWB Crafter for two weeks and it's all changed a few times 🤣. Looking forward to seeing the finished result, sounds a great idea 💜x
Looks like you’re making great progress, the electrics always take longer than you think especially cable feeding. Looking forward to seeing the flares - be interested in the usable bed width with the flares fitted. Sounds like a really great decision to change the layout. All the best, David & Rachel 👍
hi, silicone spray on the window slides might help them move more freely. hope this helps and would of helped with pushing cable through but to late now. sorrrry
Loving this series guys! Wants some working out! Will you be revealing the total build cost at the end? Be nice to see the difference between building your own and the cost of one already converted, especially the price of those you viewed at the NEC. Keep going you two lovely people!❤👍
Thanks for a really interesting vlog again both. Sounds like that layout will work well for you all, but when you get your head around double bed, three bunks, kitchen, shower and loo, theres probably not that many options that will work, esp when you put the kitchen against the door. Can’t wait to see the finished result. All the best for now, Tony and Julie.
This, shall we call it “behind the scenes/fabric of the van” may have boring bits for you both, BUT if & when things go wrong with the van you’ll know exactly how it’s put together, what you’ve used & where it’s located to fix.
I wondered if you have been following GadgetJohn’s (John and Mandy) van build? He has found Solways who specialise in van builds, they have ready built toilet and shower cubicles, and internal panels, both time and weight saving items.
Have you thought also about putting the toilet on a roller system so you can push it underneath the bed while you have a shower I don’t know how it works but I’ve seen it done just a thought to give you more room so you don’t have to pull the whole thing out every time you have a shower
Hi Stu. & Charlie, Just a quick question for you both; as Stu likes to relax and spread out in the M/H rear lounge, won't it feel a bit claustrophobic in the van? That is the reason my wife and I bought our Burstner Lyseo M 690 G instead of a van conversion. Although we are in our late 50's. Can't wait to see the finished van along with Gadget John's, but it won't be long if you persevere and have the necessary skillset and friends available. Good Luck
Thank you drew, yes he will have to suck it up ha ha kind you we currently still have the moho do if we feel to tight in the van we can go back to the moho. XxRR
A fascinating watch guys. You have windows fitted. When are you going to fit the pods for the bed. Ps. can I borrow those kids to come a clean my place. X
Good job guys, Im going shopping for my crafter next week. Looking forward to watching your progress. Especially the side pods, thinking of doing them on mine.Where did you get your windows from? 👍
Great video guys loving what you have done and looking forward to the progress. Just mind ( and I’m sure you have) put the expansion pods on the right side. I seen a UA-camr who forgot to order the slim line one for the sliding door side DOH! 😂

New subscriber here, love the videos of the van build, following these closely and learning what I can ready for when I do mine! Still deciding on 240v or stick with USB ports everywhere
@@TheRollingRucks thank you! Really interested to see the layout, how you get around the electrics and the shower set up! This is what I'm so interested in 😊
Loving the build!!! we're just about pull the trigger on a MWB and done loads of research. Wondered if you've considered the ?sills they are renowned for rusting/filling with water. Theres a few videos of this on youtube where the plastic side panels leak where they are clipped on, these usually need sealing...also any idea how your getting on with the weight when youve finished the work, and fully loaded with the family/water etc.....just curious about your opinion for when we do ours??? Cheers guys!!!!
Hi Gavin, we have the MAN version of the crafter not the sprinter version which is know for the leaky cills. We are using lightweight ply and saving on weight wherever we can including not using wood to frame cabinets where possible. Once it’s completed we will take it to the weighbridge and hope for the best. If it’s over I will up plate it and do the C1 XxRR
Thank you ;-) we will have to make do as having a lounge too would lose the garage space which we would definitely need. Also, planning on being abroad so hopefully not to many rainy days well not like wales 🏴 XxRR
@@TheRollingRucks I would think about sides and a front for the fold out awning ? Some sort of wrap round lightweight flyscreen, velcro to the top and bead lead type weights to the bottom for very fast put around and take down e.g. could even sleep in it on warm nights on a blowup bed. only a thought 🧐 good luck on your innovative van 🙏
Hi there have you thought of a pop top on your van? I done what you are doing with the bed down the side. I wish I never done it. We love watching you all the best The Travel monsters
Thank you for sharing this with us, not keen on the flares but the man butt seems to think we need them happy with a pop top but we aren’t sure if we will XxRR

New subscriber here, love the videos of the van build, following these closely and learning what I can ready for when I do mine! Still deciding on 240v or stick with USB ports everywhere
Hello Adam and welcome 🤗 hope you enjoy watching us attempt the rest of the build! XxRR
@@TheRollingRucks thank you! Really interested to see the layout, how you get around the electrics and the shower set up! This is what I'm so interested in 😊
We will show everything as it happens XxRR
Finshed my van last year if I done another I’d have a porter tolit which could be lifted out to give more shower space Might work for you atb
Thank you Gaz, appreciate it XxRR
Something else to consider lol, its a mare trying find something half decent that isnt 200+ miles away!!!
Love your vids 😎🙏🏼
What about lounge relaxing area. Will you have enough room to enjoy rainy days with a family of 5 around a table ?
Thank you ;-) we will have to make do as having a lounge too would lose the garage space which we would definitely need. Also, planning on being abroad so hopefully not to many rainy days well not like wales 🏴 XxRR
@@TheRollingRucks ahh...not UK 7 months wintery days. Sunny days abroad is different. A big awning gives loads of relax area 😎
Big awning is what will keep us all sane for sure! 😂 XxRR
When you do the electrics video - please slow it down and explain it fully - I’ve seen several and some bits are still unclear 🙂
Thank you for the feedback and we will do. XxRR
Are you guys fitting a awning?
Hi Andre yes that’s the plan ;-) XxRR
Is it long wheel base ?
Yes it is XxRR
hi guys can you please add numbers to your van build. just to make it easy to follow..
Ahh sorry John il sort it now XxRR
You seem to have done your research and more than capable of fitting the seats. You just need spread plates on the underside. If you really don't want to do it we can at Camper Family Cymru in Barry. You sound like you're not to far away.
Thank you very much we appreciate it so much! Stu will be in touch tomorrow if that’s ok? Too chicken to risk it with the kids XxRR
@@TheRollingRucks Yeah, no problem, I'll let the boss know you're calling. Ask for Jon.
omg yass 😁😁😁😁
Haha thank you xxx
What about a wrap ?
We thought about that but want a respray XxRR
Plan out every thing in advance.....that old saying "measure twice or three times - cut once" !!!!
Totally right Albert! XxRR
Wrth gwrs roedd hi'n bwrw glaw. Rydych chi'n byw yn Ne Cymru.
Haha 😂 always rains in South Wales XxRR

💗👍💗
Check out @urbanarkoverland he put bunk beds in over the front seats, that could save you some room
Thank you 😊
