Mis-alignment in the rear end is the result of a center bolt for the leaf spring its cracked off, typical seen this many times. the bolt costs about $2.00 and about an hour to repair
@@af5579 I should also add the reason why the center bolt sheared off in the first place is because the rear end shifted most likely due to one of the following reasons: 1/ one of the rear end U-bolts is broken , that repair costs about 7 or $8.00 2/ The truck was over-loaded at one point and one of the main leaf springs(the shortest one) that has the hole in it to accompany the center bolt is cracked off as well in the center and part of that leaf is missing, consequently to repair the center bolt, replacing new U-bolts is most always a consideration since the U-bolts have to be removed / gas-axed anyway to replace the center bolt. At any rate, replacing a main leaf is approx $30-$40.00 cheaper if you can get it in a scrap yard. All can be fixed for under $50.00 if you do the work yourself.

I’ve driven a few of those old four speed manual trucks. First gear was called a “granny” gear and only used if you needed to go really slow, like spreading gravel with a dump truck, or if you were starting up from a dead stop with a full load. With no load, or just a few tools in the truck you started in second and drove it like a three speed. By the way, since that was when trucks were built to work, not for commuting to work, about 1% came from the factory with misaligned rear ends. Nobody worried about it because they weren’t trying to drive 75mph to keep up with traffic.
4:12 "Sometimes, this stuff just amazes me how it survives." Yes, it's because back in those years, things were made in the USA and built to last. Now, we get everything from overseas and when it breaks down, it's "disposable" and has to be replaced.
I actually bought a 1976 Chevy El Camino from a guy, that had been sitting for 15 years. It had a 350 with a 350 turbo transmission. I slapped an optima battery on it, and put a little starter fluid, and drove it home. Sadly about a year later after a complete motor rebuild. It was stolen and subsequently scrapped. My point though, is that those older motors are tough as hell.
Before starting my car that sat for 8 years everyone said the gas wouldn't burn, especially because of the ethanol/water and it smelt awful. So I went through the trouble of wiring in a fuel pump to the body module and using an external tank to get it going. Got some of of the stinky gas out and it was definitely still flammable. What was even more surprising is that battery survived 8 Minnesota winters in an unheated garage.

Great video My Grandpa had a truck just like that except it was red and was a 1965 F350. He drove it as his daily driver from 1965 until his death in 1995.
Saw that. Could be a bad frame or the rear end is tweaked. Looks like it's kicked out on the driver's side. Need to measure wheel base on each side. If it's off, it's the rear end needing to be re-hung. Not difficult. If it's a bad frame... well...That too can be fixed but, a little more involved. Whatever it is, it's a cool a$$ truck!

It had the 305 V6 in it. It was a fun truck.
Dude, I would pillage and plunder to have that old flat bed
If you hit up a Tractor Supplies, you can buy a boat fuel cell / tank. Its a plastic can, clickity clack pump, bloody handy for this sort of thing.
Also with the short ass gears, maybe turn it into a 5th wheel trailer mule.
The guy must of put some kind of stabilizer in the gas to last so long.
Alot of farmers do when they run their own large capacity Tanks on the property.
And also whoever tried to get it running before (the can of starting fluid) might have put in a few gallons of newer gas.
Great video My Grandpa had a truck just like that except it was red and was a 1965 F350. He drove it as his daily driver from 1965 until his death in 1995.
you noly need 1st when loaded start off in 2nd
I remember those old single stage master cylinder's . If you lose fluid anywhere in the system , you go on the 10 ticket ride !
Name it walnut
I hope you complement the old guy who owned these vehicles on the good care he took of them! amazing!
was that thunder? or did someone call in an airstrike?!
Don't ya just love it when its mid December and you can be outside, in the rain, without a coat ? Living up north has to have some kind of perks. lol
This was filmed in July 😂😂 it's horrible outside right now
@@JunkyardDigs I'm in Northern Indiana, (i can see Michigan out my window) and we've had a couple great days here.
Last time I was this early, I had a joke.
Dude, that truck is badass. I don't even have a use for that but I would drive it any chance I could!
did anybody notice that it drives crooked real bad
Yep. I clocked that as soon as it started moving. I wonder what the cause is?
yeah props the rear end geometry being shot af
He said it had been rolled. That'll do it...
Both of these old Fords are very cool. I'm looking forward to more movies about them.
Built Ford tough
I’ve seen a thousand of these old start videos and the Fords always start and run without much if any work. Doesn’t seem to matter if it’s 3 years or 30. Built ford tough!
It's a Ford, somehow they do that
somehow
It can't run! There's no "Check Engine " light to illuminate adn a Ford can't run without a illuminated"check engine" light!
@@rebelgarage8664 Chrysler imperial would smash any shitty ford and that's a fact!
Brake cleaner in the carburetor and transmission fluid in the combustion chamber in the last video. Man, I need to learn these little tricks.
Idk if you can ever get the year right! 😂
We literally have no idea what this truck is because the chassis is different from the body on top of everything else 😂😂
Junkyard Digs 😆 keep up the good vids!
Junkyard Digs Frankentruck Lol 😂
@@JunkyardDigs The trim and outline of where the f badge was on the cowl suggest 61-64. 65 and 66 door trim isn't completely straight on the bottom. That grill is a 64. Like you say though there is no telling since the body panels from 61-66 all interchange. Nice for those of us that have one. Mine is a 65 f100 long bed.
@@itsalwaysfriday9766 It's definitely a 1963 or 64 cab but the chassis might be a different year(probably 61-66).
Sweet truck. Hopefully it's solid enough to save cause that flat bed would come in super handy.
Judging from the fuel that came out, there's no way it was 14 years old. Someone was in that relatively recently.
My wife's uncle was operating a Tree Farm and abandoned a lot of vehicles due to blown brake lines or even just lack of need for them... Most of them sat for over a decade, and typically only needed fresh gas and a battery to start and run. I'm guessing it was a similar situation with these trucks... nothing wrong with them other than the owner just didn't need them anymore, and had the property on which to park them, so they didn't bother selling.
