“I wonder if I could get Radio 4 on this.” *twiddles the air con knobs* LOL New to the Colonel and these (and the ATS) vids. Great stuff and clearly a lot of work goes into keeping your production values high. Thanks for the effort.
As stated by another commentor P1-P8 are the Dynamic Brakes on that locomotive. Also time for a history lesson: Prior to the invention of cab radios and modern signals, collisions between trains in foggy or otherwise poor visibility were far to common. In order to solve the problem the "Torpedo" was invented. Torpedoes in the railroading world are small explosive charges that can be strapped to the rail and detonated by another train crushing them. Up untill the invention of the modern comfort cab the explosions alerted crews by both the sound they made and the vibrations they produced in the train. Standard deployment is "Three detonators ten meters apart 400 meters either side of the train; obstruction requires protection supplemented by two detonators ten meters apart 800 meters either side of the train, obstruction or point requiring protection" , thereby aiding the crew of an approaching train to either stop or slow down enough to mitigate the damage of a collision....
@@colonelfailure Ha ha Funny! This is what Dynamic braking is. Dynamic braking is the use of the electric traction motors of a vehicle as generators when slowing. It is termed rheostatic if the generated electrical power is dissipated as heat in brake grid resistors, and regenerative if the power is returned to the supply line. Dynamic braking lowers the wear of friction-based braking components, and additionally regeneration reduces energy consumption.
rail torpedos are small devices that attach to the rail and explode when a train passes over. old school danger warning. doesn't damage the train, is just very loud.
The fat controller is watching speechless in his cabin right now ,some one get him a whisky for the shock lol. well done Colonel now go show that Coal who's boss.
Mucking about with all those switches in the cab has now spoiled it for when you have an hours drive freight mission to an American back water town where playing banjo is a mandatory exercise. You'll have to take a sudoku instead
Wait til the red cursor thing is in the center of view, then advance the video past where it's loaded. The white loading circle fits right in the center. Pretty nice.
Hey Col I have seen a few of your vids. You are hilarious! My thing is planes, trains and automobiles. I know just enough to get me in trouble LOL! I am a retired truck driver of 30 years when I need my fix it's ATS. I also love trains, that AC 4400 CW you drove the one with the door in the nose has 4400 hp. B-1 is dynamic brakes if your are going downhill apply dynamic brakes 1 through 8 to slow the consist down it saves wear and tear on the brake shoes Just a heads up and you need to apply the brakes a lot sooner than you have that why you keep overshooting checkpoints. Keep it up! you will get the hang of all of it!
With your real chair, i would swear your sitting in the actual train engineer seat with the creaking and such. Authenticity is what we come to the CNL for.
I know nothing about modern trains, other than that they are awesome. However, i think your engine issues on the 2nd train may relate to the independent break. Remember on the first train you were clearing the brake lines of pressure before you left go of the independent handle? Well looking bottom right of the HUD there is a BP with a white and red line on it. The red line was still up about 1/3 of the way when you were having to thrash the engine to barely drag forward.
What else can you do in the game? Can't you take the trains for a real ride? and ps: can't believe you didn't check the other cab so see if you can reverse it from there.
No it makes perfectbsence the power handke ia a combined trotle and dynamic break, so it is conistsnt with how the other breaks work, the farther forward the more break. Do the cobtrolls are consistant for this locomotive, in relation to others, not so much. Or is my logic just wrong
That would involve getting out of the train and going to a quick jog down the other end every time I overshot. Plus, you know about me and going backwards. I live for that stuff.
I'm going to take this as a "In what way is this fun?" kind of comment, as it could be interpreted in several ways. The key word in the title of this piece of software is "simulator" as that's what it is. It's be wrong to call it a game, it's not trying to compete with you, it's offering authenticity and accuracy (as much as a simulator can) for those who love the idea of driving a train as a job, or maybe do already (or previously), or simply love real world trains. That's where the fun is derived, from the sense of being there. From my perspective I've "played" Train Simulator on occasion for the last decade or so, because I like trains - but not to the level where a simulator is what I want. Every time I give it a spin, I'll sink an hour in and move onto something else, returning maybe 6 months later. I'd love to be able to drive a train, with this level of accuracy within Transport Fever but even then I'd only do each line once - and that's the critical part. It's not about doing it once. Fans of simulators will want to drive the same line numerous times until they feel like they've nailed it. Then they'll drive it some more. Personally, I've never been an avid Train Sim fan, it's just not my thing as it's too limiting for me, but I'm actually enjoying it much more when commenting at the same time. Odd, but true, I may be screwing it up but it's putting a big smile on my face in the process.
When you (anyone) play a game, you can do it in different ways. Take minecraft with mods. Direwolf20 tries to do the job as complicated as possible, where I try to make it as efficient as possible. When I watch you play games or simulators, do you try to do your best, or is the plan to play as bad as possible. You may play as you wish, but sometimes - like this time, there is a short way to the objective marker, and there is the one where you shunt back to the train's end and then back up again (I persume, I didnt bare to watch that long). Do you always try to make the most of it, i.e. go as far away as possible?
Trying to play badly is not something I do - and as you point out, your definition of bad seems to differ to mine. From my perspective, you're only playing wrongly if you're not having fun. Winning/losing doesn't matter in the slightest, high score boards have are completely uninteresting to me. This is why I like open world games, because it doesn't try to tell me I'm doing it wrong.
that was so painful to watch you back all the way back when there was a spur to your right
“I wonder if I could get Radio 4 on this.” *twiddles the air con knobs* LOL
New to the Colonel and these (and the ATS) vids. Great stuff and clearly a lot of work goes into keeping your production values high. Thanks for the effort.
Silly Colonel. You can't have words with General Electric. He outranks you. And if someone of higher rank says that up is down, then it is.
Valid.

That's really ingenious! Thanks for sharing, I learned something.
That map says there's a service track right off to the north of the turntable, you don't need to travel all the way to the edge of the station.
watching you pass the door on the nose every time had me cracking up
I've been watching your train sim series its been a real hoot. Thank you for your service Colonel.
2:50 That doesn't look like Lenny McLean! Although i bet if you asked Roy Shaw he might say he felt like he was hit by a Locomotive.
B1 is dynamic break
Splendid. I shall employ it when needing to brake in a more dynamic fashion.
@@colonelfailure hahahahHaha XD

There is a door infront lol

There is a door on the front. You hovered over it at least twice! Also, what did you think was down the stairs in the middle of the cab?
You didn't watch the whole video. I was building suspense (unintentionally) and giving everyone something to yell at the screen about.
46:30 Colonel you made me cry of laughter lol the torpedoes part of this entire episode BEST part second best part 53:10 :)
Wait til the red cursor thing is in the center of view, then advance the video past where it's loaded. The white loading circle fits right in the center. Pretty nice.

Thanks Brian, if hapless nonsense is to your taste, take a look at my American Truck Simulator series. You might want a stiff drink however.

Ah. The good old days of vintage colonel. Not knowing that B stands for brake and P stands for power.
I'm sure this might have been mentioned before but you didn't wait until brake pressure is zero before you started moving, that's why engine is 'slow'
Almost certainly.
I know that this is a older video but I'm laughing my ass off, love your videos mate keep this coming cheers
What else can you do in the game? Can't you take the trains for a real ride?
and ps: can't believe you didn't check the other cab so see if you can reverse it from there.
That is the power handle P 1 through 8 is power b is brake that is your dynamic braking
Holy Mackerel Batman. This episode smells fishy. Hahaha. Keep up great work Col.
considering how quickly and easily it broke last time i'd say it wasn't ready to go back to work
You didn't secure the latch on the door after starting the locomotive. !
Extra ventilation. You can't be too careful.
p 1-8 is reg throttle and B 1-8 is dynamic braking in the loco you are refueling
B=Brake
Hey Colonel, at your duty.
First if you put the throttle lever forward you will use the dynamic break. (P1)
KEEP IT GOING
No it makes perfectbsence the power handke ia a combined trotle and dynamic break, so it is conistsnt with how the other breaks work, the farther forward the more break. Do the cobtrolls are consistant for this locomotive, in relation to others, not so much. Or is my logic just wrong

I admire your persistence and endurance, wp.
Who needs Hollywood or the West End, when there is such great
entertainment?
Nice one Tim.
B1 - Brake 1. its dynamic brake
what? a success!?!? who are you and what have you done with the REAL colonel failure?!?!?
Karelwolfpup he's been demoted. The headline reads Major success.......
well played ;3
Yay! Someone got the gag!
colonel excellent work son more please i really enjoy this
38:23 wait for it, wait for it.....
Pick up your pink slip in the office. You've been made redundant. d;-)
They'll take me back. I can't possibly hold this run together.
The engine you weren't familiar with was a c-40. Like in train fever
The high tech one
by the way the door a little to the left side of the front
did you know that all doors on an American freight locomotive must have a window on it?
I did not.
I didn't read the title and I was thinking it was transport tycoon
your still reversing but using a forward facing cab. you can get in the other end colonel!!!
That would involve getting out of the train and going to a quick jog down the other end every time I overshot. Plus, you know about me and going backwards. I live for that stuff.
B1 To B8 is breaks
good going on this one. hur rha
These videos have been hilariously frustrating to watch
I'm not happy with the increased level of competence shown in this vid.
I hope we actually get somewhere today instead of faffing about like the last two attempts. Keep it up though Col!
You don't mean that ;) You're here for the faffing.
Too true, Col. You're the best at it, after all!
Failure Pays!
This is a cool video.😀😀😀😀
i love your vids
I bared with you for 10 minutes, Im sorry, I cant do it anymore. Why do you want to shunt the loco around to "practically the next state"?

Man u funny as hell 😂😂😂😂
Cheers :)
major success? you got promoted? and changed your name? i'm confused....
Demoted. Victory is not rewarded in these parts.
Look, I know what the title says, but I just don't believe it
Well I'll be dammed, I still bet he will fail the scenario in the end
Just my nemesis to go.
