one of my favorite projects so far. i hope you all enjoy the video as much as i did making it. my response to some FAQs: Q: 3D print some of these scans? A: maybe... Q: Why not mirror the iPhone's screen to another display (iPad, TV, another iPhone, etc) A: Maybe it's because my phone is older but when I tried this the app crashed very frequently and got extremely hot due to, i'm guessing, how much ram is used for 3D scanning. if you have a more recent / better iPhone, definitely give this a try and let me know! Q: How is the back camera's LiDAR system any different from the FaceID sensors? A: I THINK they have very different resolutions. since the back LiDAR sensor is only used for focusing photos in low-light situations it doesn’t have nearly as high of a resolution compared to the faceID sensors which require a much higher resolution for facial recognition. i noticed this too when i was filming the liDAR scene at 0:32. the back LiDAR sensors did not cast nearly as many dots as the faceID sensors.
As someone coming from an Industrial Design Background but studying at an arts university this was just breathtaking to watch. Especially the process. Love it.
As an ID person, I'm speechless to see how he was able to use cinematography to make industrial design understandable, relatable and really get into his mind on how he was going through the actions
Underrated edit at 3:47: the time lapse of the print is combined with the shot of grabbing the print, so he starts reaching for the print while it's still printing, and grabs it just as the last layer goes on. So creative!
Wow, until you pointed it out I did not notice the transitions, had to go back and re-watch. I suppose that speaks to how well executed they are that they seem invisible, and serve the content without stealing the show. Def saving this as a reference for creative transitions though, they are indeed seriously good =]
Watching the editing quality made me so tired, because I was just thinking how many DAYS this would take me to edit a single transition like this in DaVinci Resolve.
3:48 That shot with the piece still printing while you are grabbing it is amazing, also these posters look incredible, really an incredible use of a mundane item.
I am seriously absolutely stunned by your design skills. I mean, the design of that handle .... Holy. The slots integrated in the handle, the piece cut in two halves. You even designed this with the full length of the HDMI cable stored perfectly away. I tip my hat to you, sir.
I appreciate all of the time you put into the video edits! (E.g. 3D printing Timelapse shifting into you picking up the print, you centering all of the I’ll Do It Myself hats)

Dude. Every aspect of this video is so elegant: the concept, the implementation, the editing. This was the first video of yours that I saw but I immediately subscribed. I'm looking forward to watching more of your content ❤️✌🏼
The way you approached the design process and was able to spend the time solving a problem like this is incredible. I love that you like to use things you already have and applied creative ways to remix them into genius level products. Looking like a real future scanner from a video game and has the abilities to grow with different applications.
Thank you for making this video :)! I'm in awe at what you've done - from the ingenious design of the 3D-printed holder with hidden HDMI cable, through the art (I still cannot fathom how you could turn the scans into someting so beautiful!), to the high-quality video itself - genuinely, hats off! I had grin on my face during the whole video (and long after it ended, too!). As a tip for others like me, who are not as skilled as you are, I'd like to add that there's also the *Screen Sharing* feature in Heges: if you have a secondary iPhone/iPad, then you can use it for screen mirroring. Just double-tap anywhere in the live camera preview and follow the instructions.
Wow I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! and thank YOU for making this app! Seriously, I've been playing with this app ever since it came out and it's just too much fun. I noticed you also published an app for recording 3D videos too and that was super fun to play with too. I didn't realize there's a screen-sharing feature now so i'll definitely be giving that a shot! thank you for the awesome work.
Have to agree with everyone. Your videos are so compelling to watch. The ideas you come up with and how you go about bringing your creations to life is great content and I look forward to your future videos.

Impressive work! More than the creative artwork (which really is cool), I'm much more impressed by the physical tool you designed for mirroring the display for conveniently using the Face ID sensor. I hope there are people at Apple who take note of this and recognize the value of adding more detailed sensors on the back of the iPhone. And if the weird digital artifacting is a problem with the way Apple's sensor works, I hope this makes them look into that too! Great work. Fun stuff!
