Matt, I didn’t see but you NEED to clean the mounting services of the calipers to the hub. Zero paint is allowed there!! I will and can cause shimmy’s
This is a must 👍
100% right. Wish you had done Poorshe stickers
Good catch!!!
Hahaha Poorsche. Didn't know that about the paint guys. Thanks!
@@matt13rosswe are here to keep you straight 😜 and shimmy free
A good tip for keeping paint out of threads - the cheap 3M yellow foam ear plugs do a perfect job for filling the hole during paint and can be removed easily afterwards
A good way to get all 4 caliper pistons to pop when you are using air is to put a block of wood between the pistons and then they will come out but not all the way the block of wood will stop them from coming all the way out.
I sort of figured that out later lol
The picture-in-picture is a real cool touch!
Glad you liked it!
Coat the hubs in anti seize before installing rotors and on the top hats to keep the wheels from adhering, put it on wheel studs too. And you gotta clean the paint off for the underside of those caliper mounts! Just put a little anti seize on that surface.
Right before you wore wheeled the hubs I was shaking my head that you hadn’t hahaha
Me too lol
Hahaha I knew it
As a fellow OCD sufferer I really enjoy your attention to detail 👍🏻
Use copper grease behind the hub it'll stop the rust
If you do any kind of serious track days, those dust seals will be gone in short order. Not the end of the world, most folks who track don't bother to replace. I believe cup cars don't come with them. Also, those caliper bolts are considered stretch bolts and thus one time use.
Makes sense as this car was tracked.
Just rebuilt all the rubber, seals and greased the pistons and made a difference on my 996 calipers. Pistons were dry and tough to remove but I got it done. You’re definitely going to like how it feels after
Have my 996TT needing brake caliper labels, thx for showing the way to make it happen.
Loving the Ned Flanders’s look
I would recommend abit of copper grease on that hub next time where its in contact with the disc.
Nice job. You can get DOT approved stainless braided brake lines. I didn’t notice if you had the stock lines. Just a nice touch, with less give in the pedal.
I upgraded to Rennline
Stache gang here to stay!!! 🤣👍🏼
Keep the great video rolling. What an amazing change from the first car being delivered.
This videos sound track went hard 😤
you can get kits of silicon plugs that are perfect for sealing off holes when paintig
Yup, all the other YT'ers I watch use them on their brakes and basically any hole that needs filled while painting.
Next time if I remember
Looks good. She's getting there.
The look of regret for shaving the stache had me rolling lol! Another great video in the books, 997 is looking amazing!
Thanks so much!
I've been using that same glass cleaner to clean off everything on my car for years too. I could say I'm here for the Porsche content, but it's really all about the glass cleaner. RIP Stache
It's great stuff! Lol
Use Anti seize for the hubs bro
The picture of the car for the video with the 5 spoke wheels looks good.
I agree
Good to see the clip of you enjoying yourself doing the doughnuts!
good job!! i concur,..."poorsche" would be *THE BEST*!! as for the stache,....idk, the 70's called in and voted for while the 80's claimed foul, so,....
Hi Matt. Great job on the Brakes. Lovely Rotors. That Clearcoat is Brilliant stuff. Keep up the good work bro. 😅🇨🇮
I had an older car I restored that the brakes locked up on a short test drive.. it was the brake light switch of all things... it was adjusted too low and didn't allow the brakes to release far enough to let the fluid out. I turned it a half turn out and the brakes popped loose and the car rolled easily. I spent weeks rebuilding everything... Dumb stuff like that makes you insane.
Great Video Matt, thanks for sharing the ride-
That moustache drives me crazy! 😆
A like helps it go away :)
@@matt13ross I saw, u shaved it already! 😁👍🏼
No it's back lol
@@matt13ross Some Men Just Want To Watch The World Burn! 😂 🦇
The old rotors look like girodisc to me. Buying the hats and replacement irons is cheaper than buying the whole kit. I'll take them!
Love the channel. Great work. Awesome personality, look forward to your new videos. Keep up the great work !
Thanks so much!!
I would love those.
They would be an amazing upgrade for my 987!
Lmk.
Thank you.
Derreck in Seattle.
NEED Those WHEELS From The THUMBNAIL!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I like them too haha
Nice work man 😄👌
Great work 🫡
You need to get garage floor painted 😮
In the next garage, yes.
matt youre going to want to keep those giro discs hats and get a good high temp brake fluid for when you're doing any serious driving! great series, cheers!
I'm going to keep the track driving for the E36 I think.
I'd be interested in one of the old rotors so I can repaint the center, polish the outside and make a clock out of it.
Renline do a stud kit for the calipers also, i installed them on my 997.2 C2S, saves screwing continually into the alloy hub, and titanium always looks awesome
Double check there is no brake fluid on the car paint after the fluid sprayed in the air when you took the caliper off at 04:30. Would hate to see the fresh paint have a reaction when its looking so good mate. Calipers and discs look awesome mate, great job.😀
I checked :)
@@matt13ross Nice one mate!
Love watching the ups and downs of the learning curves of all of the videos. Amazing content. The thumbnail of that 997 btw hoping that’s what you’re aiming for the final result of this build. Either way I’m along for the ride watching each video. Keep up the amazing vlogs 👌🏻
Thanks 👍
Finally. The brakes triggered me so much. 😂
Haha same
Thank you for the wire wheel, I was so hoping you would do something. Those fantastic rotors onto the rust hub just didn't work
14:25 I'd do the same with the wire bit, same tools even
This are giro disc rotors you took off, easily cleaned up and resold.
You really are shooting yourself in the foot. I’m not sure whether to like the video which was great or to not like it as I love the stache!
Please like! Lol
Ceramic coat those calipers!!!! Will make future cleaning much easier.
Just a thought for the future, I use ear plugs as paint blocking in smaller threaded holes. Work perfectly on brakes.
Good tip thanks!
Need to do my brakes too 👌
This is actually such a dope series, I wait for your videos bro keep up the great work!!!
Appreciate it!
Great job bro 🔥🔥
RIP Stache had me laughing hahaha you're a champ
If those calipers were dirty.. the ones on my Cayenne were dirt themselves. They were *black* (but supposed to be red!)
Great job bro it’s not easy to work on Porsches but u did it 💪
I knew you didnt get there on 3k, glad to see it on its way back in- The Stache
Very nice job🔥
Gutted to have to see the Dolphins lose again. Great video other than that though. Brake paint job looks ace
Thanks 👍
looking like a young Sequisha, let the Stash reign supreme
Nice job!
Thanks!
Turned out pretty nice! Now get some length on that stache and get them ends curled. 👨🏻
Haha
Your calipers look nice, good job matt 👍
Thanks!
29:39 NOT THE STACHE!!
In very cold weater you can lose the bead and get a flat from the combination of: 1. The air condenses and the tire pressure drops. 2. Aluminum wheels will actually shrink. Tire de-beads.
Found a hole in it lol
super satisfying video!
Glad you liked it, thanks!
Every time you talked with the mask on, all I could think about was Kenny from South Park.
Haha
You should go see AmmoNYC and get her cleaned up and the undercarriage ice blasted
Thank gawd you had a respirator on with that 2k. It is really nasty stuff that requires 24hr observation in hospital if you breathe it in. (Used to work for PPG in the paint lab back in the UK, helping develop paints for BMW).
A Like for killing the tashe, brakes were good too.
Might need to rebuild those crocs soon too
Nooo they're OG
11:50 That's a delicate balance there. Kinda scary. I'd use a better table
Hey Matt good call on doing those hubs I was about to let you have it lol good job bro.
I knew I'd get destroyed in the comments lol
When you were hitting the caliper with a mallet and the brake fluid was shooting up towards the freshly painted fender 😬
Cleaned it, all good!
Moostache’ 😮
When you finish this car, you should enter it in a concours, such is the attention to detail.
It's not going to be THAT nice lol. Thanks though.
come on guys, wote for goods sake!!
Almost thought he would make an adoph H. moustache..
⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️👍🏻
You’re such a tease Matt 😀 I was so happy to see the stache gone and then the sad news it lives on. Come on guys, hit that like so we can say goodbye to the attaché forever 😊
Haha. Yup we need more likes! I have to stick with what I said.
Getting closer! Great work. I do have to add that the camera’s tracking movement takes a bit to get used. Makes the video feel “jumpy”.
That's why I only do it sometimes. It's a nice change up I think.
@@matt13rosscertainly is. Keep at it!
Get the underside dry ice cleaned when you're done.
Eventually
I think you forgot a lot a spécial tool for Porsche and other..... dynamométriqu k tool for exemple brake calliper 😂
my brake hoses failed and locked up my calipers, collapsed the inner lining of the hose.
I think the same happened here
bro, pay attention to the brake rotors, the Blades have a direction in order to fonction properly
otherwise you may have heat spots all over the Rotors!
They're the correct way, Rennline provides arrows with each rotor to make sure they're on the right way.
My callipers have heat shilds between the piston and brake pad. they are stock
they kinda slides into the piston and lays flat against the pad
I actually like those rims matt . What’s your plans there ?
Matt have you had problems with your channel again - I’ve had to resubscribe again ?? Hope is well and keep up the great work 👍🏻🇬🇧
Nope, not since that one (horrible) time. Thanks!
Aren't those new rotors directional? It looks like you put them on the wrong side....air should be able to flow into those slots for cooling
I followed the arrows in the packaging
@@matt13ross loving the build and your channel! Keep it up!!
😊😊😊
Hey Matt. Have you checked the brake hoses? If they are old, they can collapse so when you let off the pedal the fluid does not return. May not be the problem but in some cases it can be and most people overlook this issue. Good luck bro.
I didn't check the old ones. They were steel. But I did replace them with new from Rennline.
@@matt13ross good deal. 👍
Could be a collapsed break line not letting the fluid return back to the master cylinder
👀 that brake oil squirting near fresh paint...
Cleaned!
I would really have gone with the yellow Porsche colour for the calipers, especially with the grey...red doesn't work for me.
I thought about it. But OEM is red. And there's no other yellow on the car.
They spelled "Poorche" wrong on those stickers. 😉
Haha
Nice work but mating surfaces of the calipers to the hub needs cleaning from paint. Also I think your front rotors are on the wrong side. The vane direction looked strange and opposite to the rears
They're the correct way, Rennline provides arrows with each rotor to make sure they're on the right way.
nice touch with the brakes. White letters would of stand out better but still looks good. shave that stash LOL just kidding
I see the furry caterpillar is growing nicely.
That's right
Did you use new caliper bolts?
No
Great progress Matt but if I’m not wrong aren’t the rotors meant to be the other way around? I was always told the grooves should point towards the back of the car from the middle and yours seem the other way around on both this and the yellow Porsche.
I followed the arrows provided by Rennline
Matt, you missed a golden chance to clean and repaint the brake backing plates!
Hrm. Maybe later
Looks great. How does the clear coat hold up to the heat of the calipers?
Guess we will see!
Covering 90% of the Porsche to get the Rudolf the Rednose reindeer look…Nice 😢
It needs sanded and buffed anyway, no worries!
If i promise to like your next 3000 videos, will you ditch the stache?
You and everyone else, yes lol.
