Lot of people beat up on the UCI without really knowing what they actually do, but in general I agree with you, and in fact the UCI has tried to rein in attempts to turn road racing into some kind of F1, and keep it more accessible to regular people. A lot of the complaints you hear about UCI this and that are coming from people who want to F1-ize it, and turn it into a super expensive media circus. For example, the UCI still make all the riders stay in one designated hotel together. Helps to control doping, poisoning, and keeps costs down. If they didn’t do that, you’d have the stars sleeping in million dollar bus RV’s or helicoptering to 5 star hotels, and the domestiques in tents and sleeping bags. The UCI resist the attempts to start weight wars with road bikes, which would create some danger and even more cost, by having a minimum weight limit. I agree with you they should go further. Ban time trial bikes, they should all ride time trials on their regular road bike. Ban dining busses, and massage busses, and repair busses, and team chefs. Get most of the blasted motorcycles and team cars off the road. Issues with doping cut across all sports, and in fact one reason cycling has a bad rep is because they were testing, unlike for example us baseball and football where in the past they’re didn’t test at all. What most people don’t know is how legalized doping works, which is one reason I can’t stand team sky - ineos, who are masters at it, they even give it a name, incremental gains. In any Olympic sport the athlete can go to their own national sports body, say they have allergies or a headache or they’re depressed, and get prescribed performance enhancing substances (“therapeutic use exemptions”) These prescriptions then are without question accepted by the Olympic committee, UCI, etc. It’s universal legal doping amongst Olympic athletes. Like Froome taking 20 asthma inhalers on every stage in the Giro, or the 20000 doses the Norwegian skiers took to Japan. I think that all televised sporting events should display a list of the TUE’s and substances that every athlete is taking, right next to his number and stats.

Cycling is not alone in it’s doping. Strongman, bodybuilding, American football… if anything use greater amounts of drugs than bike racing. In a lot of sports drug testing is incredibly weak such as in the NBA where they don’t even test for steroids or American football (NFL) announces when the tests happen. A lot of the dirty image of cycling is mixed messages of trying to clean up the sport, wanting the governing body to make money by protecting dopers as well as high level officials getting caught in scandals.
The jan 2019 podcast series gladiator series, by host Bob hohler, regarding the deep performance enabling drug culture in the NFL, and specifically discussed the New England Patriots. The gel injections and testing for the weed , but not Dilauded.

In fact I knew one guy who put a suspension fork on his road bike. Would be fun to see if the condescending type roadies view him as friend or foe.
@@michaelstratton5223 Post the Dirt Flu bug biting me in '89, the whole roadie package acquired a Sour taste. The Fun and challenges that came with the Dirt Flu was further supplemented by the cooler, more laid-back folks in the dirt tribe (not so present now sadly, elitism and gram-weeniage has polluted the sport; how much you've spent on your clone throw-away carbon-fiber framed FS determines your status quietly in the tribe...). Roadies and the slimy bike industry have Ruined the sport and gutted the soul thereof too. ('gravel bikes', e-bikes, halo bikes, and a complete rejection of the Core values of the founders of the sport).
I've gravitated more to the non-racing side since I'm a Lousy racer anyhow and refuse to torture myself with what you have to do training-wise to compete. All-day trail or mixed terrain rides and beginning attempts at Bikepacking are more where I'm at now.
As per the moto edge, i respect them because their tech has Hugely benefitted cycling in general for the last 110+ years; much cross-pollination between the camps... Additionally, i find that the moto overlanding tribe (see Itchy Boots and Charly Sineway videos; cool stuff!) has more of the Original spirit of mountain-biking (including a brotherhood that cycling in general Lacks); the roadies have been pricks for multiple decades and mainstream mountain-biking's Lost it's Soul and is nearly as prickish as their roadie brethren.
I think that all televised sporting events should display a list of the TUE’s and substances that every athlete is taking, right next to his number and stats.
... as a German Biologist- this is about TRUST. I was a Coach for Swimming - and experienced the heavy burden of honesty and responsibility. When it is GREED - it fast gets criminal. Cycling is the worst Sport of all. You become a Slave to technology and abusers. Later I found running is still the least hazardous. I met my best comrades in Running Endurance training....
