A Dining Room Table for 24? Sheesh!!! Hello Redwood Tree! I like the Lancaster KOA lay out. So many "RV Parks" are Asphalt Parking Lots! George, in ten years you will need the entire campground for your family! Atta Boy!

I'm sooo excited for this trailer series!!!! We are not RVers yet but when we retire we would like to do a cross country trip and deciding on a trailer vs everything else is a huge decision. We may decide to rent.

Fixing that thing up would be like putting lipstick on pigs. That sounds a little harsh, but those things are built 1x2 framing and staples. Certainly not the kind of good bones to install your high-test over engineered well crafted living space.

Awesome update, well earned. The rub is you'll also need 24 chairs, are there enough Amish to deliver that project?
My armchair thought about the good old caravan is an area of wasted space... Surely we can do something with the A-frame. I get we all need access to the hitch, brake, jockey wheel and can't go wider than the frame without impeding turning radius.
However, that could be 1 m2 or 5 sq.ft of floor space plus full height. Storage, plant equipment or bathroom addition to a caravan. Maybe even better milage with a change in aerodynamics.

Glad to see you take time off! Take care of your health and get some fresh air and exercise. Also, try to get sunlight as much as possible on bare skin. The health benefits are outstanding. The body functions better with direct sunlight recharging it.
Very excited to hear about trailer mods. You will revolutionize that industry too. Warm clothes! What a concept. Not only warm but not damp either, if there is good air flow. Most fabrics smell moldy in motorhomes. Great idea.
24 people, yikes! Your family is exploding. How lovely. They must all be learning from Grandpa George, lucky kids!
That camping site looks fabulous. I can smell the trees and wood smoke. What a fragrance that is. Forest bathing. We all need it. Have fun, George!! 😋

Oh my goodness, good for you. I can't believe you could go that long without camping!!!! And to have some of your children along must be FANTASTIC!!!! So glad to see you out doing something other than working that incredibly creative mind to death, oh wait, the gears are still churning 🤔Warm clothes cracked me up, Have you ever been camping in a tent in 30 degree weather???? or in your brand new empty cargo van that you've only had 5 days to stuff it with some insulation and put rubber puzzle like gym matting on the floor to try and keep out some of the cold, hung some insulated packing blankets along the walls nd traveled through a scary canyon in a snow storm with only 79 miles on your van (not enough time to get use to driving icy roads in the thing) and then woke up the next morning in the middle of nowhere to 29 degrees? if not, you don't know what cold clothing really feels like 🥶🤣. It is nice to have the luxury of warmth and if anybody can come up with a good solution it will be you! In the mean time, you can sleep with the clothes you are going to wear the next day inside your sleeping bag or bed, or sit on them for a bit before you put them on. Can't wait to see what you do with this trailer and what you end up with. In my opinion, there's nothing greater than camping with kids and grandkids, and nothing better than grandkids camping with their grandparents!

I’d love to see what you could do with a ground-up build of a travel trailer. Most I’ve been in look like they were built using the absolute cheapest materials/methods possible. I’m not saying it needs to be a ‘no expense spared” sort of thing, just built with quality and livability in mind.

Already trying to push out my build 2 years for a Humble Road build. That is 1 year longer than I was able to stretch. So these ideas can perhaps make that even longer. Point is we love your ideas whichnis why you are well worth waiting for but your brilliant ideas can keep you from the builds!! Perhaps you can work your camera magic and make 3 more of you??!!! Humblify that trailer George! Glad you got to camp. What a glorious fall we’ve had here in the East. IMO, poor quality units delivered these past few years, especially in the Travel trailer or fifth wheels segments, significantly contributed to the lack of demand this year. I think for the money people spend they’re finally saying enough of this crap. However, with the costs of vans these days, with a higher quality product and innovation TT could make a comeback.

George, unrelated question: In your van builds, why don't you use sliding door area for a hidden shower setup? It's always empty and wasting space anyway. Many people use that area and it works fine.

I understand. In your last build, you skipped the whole idea of a shower in order to open up the space, and made outdoor shower instead.
In other words: They sacrificed the shower to win the space, but also ignored a massive space available and agreed to totally waste it... Something doesn't make sense here... Did they even know about this option available?

My personal advice, looking in from outside not knowing all business details. Just be careful not to expand humble road to quickly. Your doing multiple different chassis already alot of it is custom on big vans.
    Control demand with price.
I would look at efficiency sit down one day in rolling chair in shop watch them work throughout the day and take notes. If they have to walk 10 times across entire shop to get a drill, well each bay should have one then. Things like that, cutting out 15hrs of build time will increase your margins later.
Standardize each bay layout exactly the same... locations and tools. So if workers move to different project everything is the same. Things like that. Think like amazon warehouse.

We found one in Canada but that's a long way from home in Tennessee. There is definitely a need for custom quality-built travel trailers. George, I think this is a niche market you should consider. I'm honestly surprised you don't have a humble road big boy ford drw build for yourself rather then getting travel trailer.
Idk about humble road doing travel trailers I feel like thats whole different ball game that's going to take alot of r&d...in the end who your really competing with is airstream. To build these TT correctly its going to make them expensive hence you need to really assess what airstream is doing wrong, do alot of innovation, marine grade interior design, 8020 use and still keep costs reasonable. Also airstreams exterior design how are you going to make that better? Idk bud that's tall order to do it better.

    • @HumbleRoad
      @HumbleRoad  10 місяців тому +1

I never said I was going to start building travel trailers. All I wanna do is bring mine up to speed and maybe sell it for a few extra bucks and upgrade for myself. I can give you the one overriding reason that I don’t have a DRW Ford transit for myself I can’t afford it. This travel trailer was $12,000. It gets me back in the campground for very little money.
