My uncle has the Atari that takes floppy disks like the castle wolfenstein game. He has a ton of games. I can get in touch with you through Reggie if you want to talk to him about possibly acquiring it.
MetalJesusRocks you should do an episode on “Tell-Tale Games”. They recently announced their closure; this is unfortunate because they had a lot of great games in development. With your experience in the industry, I totally think your insight would be interesting. Do you think we are heading for another “video game” market crash?
One thing I miss about big box pc games is that when you buy it, opening it for the first time is such an experience. The sometimes thick manuals, maps, keyboard shortcut sheets, codes... so much fun!
I don't think they play any games, by play I mean from start to end. It takes me weeks to finish a games they keep showing games after games no way they play them all. But still a nice show.
Castle Wolfenstein. - Back at the beginning of 1980's people tried to sell their own software and the companies were small. They could not afford to mass produce boxes, so they used whatever they found. The disks were mostly copied on the programmers computer and did not have a printed label. Check out the early Scott Adams adventures' packaging and you'll be amazed. You also have two games in the pacland box (the other one being pac mania). Winnie the pooh has Mark Crowe on the staff list that must be mentioned who also worked on space quest series(which I quite enjoy). It seems I've played every game in this video to death back in the day :)
Big box was so amazing when I was a kiddo. An old PC big box was basically as big as my head, so when I saved up for weeks it was like Christmas. Opening the huge box and finding huge manuals and multiple discs was a big event. Keep up the great vids!
Seeing that Conquest of the Longbow box immediately took me back to the early nineties. Good memories. Used to have lots of PC games, and I could just sit there and admire the artwork on the boxes and the manuals. They surely don't make them anymore like they used to...
Yes!! my favourite game of all time, also have an original boxed version like MJ's, also an original promo poster too. Be great to see it get a bit more recognition.
I had that Lucas Arts 5 game compilation when I was a kid. It is probably one of the best big box PC collections you will find. I played those and I also had a lot of Sierra games like the Legend of Robin Hood: Conquest of Longbow, and Laura Bow: The Dagger of Amon Ra. MJR thanks for bringing back some great memories!
Elecronic Arts were very heavily involved with the Amiga back in the mid 80s to early 90s and were a fab serious productivity publisher on the Amiga. They also produced Deluxe Paint, Deluxe Print and Deluxe Music on the Amiga. I still use Deluxe Paint III on my Amiga 600 to this day. x
After the release of Beyond Castle Wolfenstein, Main Street Publishing purchased the rights of Castle Wolfenstein and Beyond Castle Woflensetin in 1985/86 I believe. However, the were such a cheap company, they only bought the packaging for Beyond Castle Wolfenstein, and their release of Castle Wolfenstein simply had a IBM sticker over the word Beyond to denote that it was Castle Wolfenstein, and not the sequel. However, your copy appears to be for the Commodore. I was under the impression they only released it for DOS. Quite Fascinating. The Moby Games website would benefit of having a entry created for this Their office is actually only a mile or so away from me. Kinda interested in seeing what is there now. So, your copy is legitimate. Just missing the box.
Zyrother the original was for Apple II and actually had staticy voice effects like “Halt!” or “Kaput!” but it also had apple II graphics, eh. Never made it very far on an emulated copy…
Yeah, neither are that fun to play, but they laid very critical groundwork for stealth game play that includes loud noises that can alert enemies, stealth kills, looting enemies, etc. You can also get drunk if you consume alcohol found in chests, which throws off your aim!
Yep, have it for Apple II. The packaging is identical minus the artwork. The plastic is absurdly thin and cracks easily with age. Mine is being held together with tape lol
@10:25 Love the way you flick that knife out XD Brilliant donations, had no idea there was a Jetsons adventure game! Also nice to see Conquests of the Longbow in there :)
I also got so excited seeing Conquest of the Longbow there! Such not-so-well-known Sierra treasure from great adventure game company. Had so much fun playing that with my friend back in the day. Great they released that game in digital format in GOG some time ago :)
I have some big box pc games I used to play back in the past: The big box version of Myst, with all the manuals, map and everything. This also comes with a separate disc which has the music score from the game itself. I also have Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix 3 which is absolutely fantastic even by today's standards. Again, there is a gorgeous novel of a manual detailing all of the tracks and how to set up your car to race on them. This is NOT a game, rather it is a SIMULATION! It really feels like you are driving a Formula One car. I also have Baulder's Gate, Shadows of Ahm [ I think it's called]. Again, complete with manuals and everything. I also have 'Empire Earth' and the add on too. The manual/novel, is beautiful. And I also have 'Arcanum of Steamworks and Magik'. They all still play like a dream.
The people who made Bombuzle didn't make Speedball. It was The Bitmap Brithers that made Speedball. They were probably published by the same company. Great haul by the way :)
I played that Tom & Jerry game when I was a kid. It's not a platformer, it's a game where you play as Jerry and set traps to Tom in the house. I remember it wasn't that good.
Fantastic additions, MJR. And very; VERY genorous. Some of these titles are realy expensive. Hope you do a follow up video, Amiga games deserve more love.
I have also a similar version of Castle Wolfenstein. It's the same blister-package, but with a different cover. It says Main Street Publishing on the front cover, which was kind of a low-budget-reseller according to Moby Games. And some trivia about the Rock'n'Roll game: This is one of the BEST Rainbow Arts games ever! It was the only game of a famous german game critic named Martin Gaksch, who provided the awesome level design. It's kind of a Marble Madness with top-down-view and a lot of game and puzzle elements. Also, the soundtrack is fantastic. It was composed & arranged by Ramiro Vaca (for the Commodore 64 version) and Chris Hülsbeck (Amiga) and is the sole reason, why the game is called Rock n Roll ;) The PC version has a new soundtrack by Jochen Hess with completely new tracks and (I have to repeat myself) one of the best Adlib-instrumentation I have ever heard. Sadly, there is no Roland MT-32 version. Also, the PC version has some kind of strange scrolling - the screen doesn't move smoothly, but switches every three or four tiles, you roll over. It's very unusual and it took even back in 1990 some time to get used to. So, I would rather recommand playing the Amiga-version than the PC one, you got.
When I bought a bunch of big box PC games from a car boot sale. I did find some extras included. As well as an additional game 'Respect Inc' that was inside a Populous box.
wow a 5 inch floppy havent seen one of those in quite a long time. In the i'd say late 80's games were transitioning from 5" floppy to the 3.5" floppy disk, i remember buying a Star Trek Game, it came with the 5" and 3.5" floppys inside. So i'm guessing that Wolfenstein floppy you showed was from before they started changing. I also miss the big game boxes, i remember many a game that was only a disc and a few papers and the rest of the box was huge. That these people had kept thier game boxes for all this time is really great i wish i could have saved mine as well.
i guess that game, teenage mutant ninja turtles, are from the comic book, because the cartoon and movies, all the turtles got different color of masks, and in that game box all the turtles got red masks
Yuuus!! A Big Box Pc video! Ever since I quit Facebook I've been really missing the Big Box Pc Games Collectors group, especially since I've added sooo many great games to my library. One day I will have a copy of System Shock 2 (CIB of course) One day.
That plastic form around 5:00 with the shape of a cassette and floppy disks. Nice to see original titles! I think that castle wolfenstein is legit, it might have been how some early Apple II/C64 indies were packaged. The original ultima was supposedly just ziploc bags and a photocopied manual with a hand typed paper label. That might be a real piece of history
@4:00 Castle Wolfenstein comes out. I had one just like it and other games packaged that way. Mine came from the store called Target. Older games could be bought cheaper packaged that way. You basically got a disk and that was about it. I bought quite a few games that way because of the way cheaper price. The budget rack with those was my first stop in the computer software isle when we went to Target. I'm sure many other stores probably had them the same way. Man, that seems like a LIFETIME ago when I was buying those. Have a great day.
Watching this made me realize just how much work it would be to install and run all of these. Some of them look really cool though, so I'm sure it'd be worth it!
Is the current e-bay listing the only source for this price? It seems out of this world to me. The game must be rare anyways (being a US made Amiga exclusive).
@@amerigocosta7452 I can't find another comp for price. It is high but not unreasonable if complete and at least very good condition. You never see amiga box games in the wild (garage sales, flea markets) or even game stores (unless they specialize).
Castle Wolfenstein is the Shareware, ID Software allowed stores to make their own copies and packaging and sell it to consumers and keep all the profits, as a form of advertising for the full game.
Bethesda has an interesting and unexpected history for those who only found them around the Oblivion days. I got a horse riding game from them on PS2 lol.

I'm with others here...wish there were some videos, or showing more of the pics on the back of the boxes. I know it would've taken longer, but would have been more enjoyable. Longer videos are better. ROCK ON MJR!!!
Hey Metal Jesus, wanna hear something funny? I went to Sony's Crackle to watch a movie and during a commercial break guess what pops up? An XBox commercial! Hahahahaha!
This is a complete stab in the dark In regard to the Wolfenstein game, back in the era of physical shareware releases(where you'd buy a demo disk of some software, and if you liked it, you could mail order a copy of the full game for a price), there were some companies that packaged games in that sort of packaging. At least that's how it was here in Australia, although I think that was mostly with PC software. I have no idea about other countries, or systems though.
Castlevania floppy that floppy is a old style of floppy that they used before they used hard copies it's almost a priceless artifact the floppy drive itself im sure there are many format factors for them and a museum that has them on display they are like literally they first portable dats storage crazy right!!
My uncle peter had an Amiga 500 when I was little, I spent all my spare time playing either Batman the movie or f18 interceptor. I played the Amiga that much I broke the floppy eject button and my uncle went berserk!
I used to play Oil Imperium. It actually has action elements too. Good game, especially multiplayer. There were around 5 good similar games at the time. Robocop and Batman the movie were great action/platformers games. Especially on the Atari ST and Amiga which included the flying and driving levels. VERY good games even today. Your Pac-Land box had a disk for Pacmania. A more faithful version of classic Pacman only in isometric perspective with different level design and ability to jump. I never liked it but it was ok. Murder is a fantastic game. You get to solve one of a myriad randomly generated murders in mansions etc. Fantastic game.
MetalJesusRocks, the Castle Wolfenstein game looks familiar, as My family owned a very old computer, we had the keyboard, the connections to the TV and a large floppy disk (as the one you showed) reader. This was in europe, so I am not sure if this is how it was in Europe, or their just not known around here in the US.
We have a pretty sweet donation inbound... I'll have to try my hand at one of these too! Edit: Ah! I have It Came from the Desert on Turbografx-16, ahahah
Hey metal jesus, do you actively collect amiga and do you own a system? I'm from the UK where amiga was big but I know it wasn't really popular in the states, but if you do own a system it would be cool if you made some more content showcasing it 😄

Yep! You got a lot of cool extras for your $50 or $60 back in the day.
Can you do some videos of you PLAYING these games? Would love to see those!
Same especially the Conan and That story game
Even install and set up of the games on a vintage PC would be interesting.
no install required on Amiga, pop the floppy in and play. Memories.
I dont think he really plays games
I don't think they play any games, by play I mean from start to end. It takes me weeks to finish a games they keep showing games after games no way they play them all. But still a nice show.
Epic pickups! I always find it fascinating to look at all these awesome box art covers for these older PC games.
I sense a brutal I Hate U episode coming up. Challenge #1: Remember how to make a boot disk. Challenge #2: Repair wall where said disk was hurled.
please do another I hate you! pls

Cabbage Patch Kids ... That's a throw back.
When we were kids, my sister was obsessed with Cabbage Patch dolls.
Mike the Magic Dragon? Isn't it Puff?
Can't get enough of them Amiga Games!!!

"It came from the desert" is an amazing game
That Pac-Land game also had Pac-Mania in the box. Make sure you don't write it off. The Amiga version of Pac-Mania is great.
You're Welcome for the games..glad to see them in a good home and fun seeing them in a video here on your channel.
Thanks so much Tim for the awesome donation! Really appreciate it
I have big memories about this big boxes :( people with more than 21 don´t know HOW awesome is this.... Thank u MJ!
With all your additions to the collection the past year, Jason, we're going to need an MJR Museum pretty soon!
Ah, the Amiga was the first computer I owned.
Fantastic it was.
Rock'N'Roll is actually one of my favorite games ever, recommend that. Also It came from the desert and Oil Imperium is pretty good.
I had It Came From The Desert years ago. Amazing game. Great video, keep on rocking :)
Torro sixsixzero I can still remember the music even though I haven’t played it in over 20 years!

Who would have ever thought I would learn more about old Jetsons and Winnie the Pooh games from Metal Jesus! Always learning stuff!
I love how he pretended to not know what Barney Bear is! It's probably his favorite game! LOL

You should definitely do more Amiga and pc game reviews
Love Friday videos. Glad you upload early for us on the east coast.
Its cool to see pc games from before pc's became a house hold item. I dont remember having a pc in our house till late 90s.
seeing these videos makes me want to start looking for big box PC games but I do NOT need to be getting into another gaming collection

Rock n roll and Oil imperium brings back a lot of nice memories. Awesome games :)

@@princelorian Judy!
i would, i have, Jetsons and Flinstones have my heart.
love the show man - much support!
I would love to see you demo some of these older games. I have no experience with old PC games but they all look so interesting.
So jealous you have a boxed version of Conquests of the Longbow! I played through that game, no joke, probably hundreds of times as a kid.
Lovely set of games there. So good to see the older games in nice condition, going to a good home. :)
EA did Deluxe Paint on the Amiga (and PC), the Photoshop/standard tool for video games artists of that period.
Wow! Most of these games are in excellent condition!
Bionic Commando on the Amiga is awesome. I can't say the same for TMNT though.

Conan the Cimmerian looks nice! I found in summer an old Conan comic book from 1985.
Crazy how big the boxes are considering the size of the floppy disks
