9 of the last 10 recessions occurred during a Republican administration. Recessions provide billionaires with the opportunity to acquire assets at discounted prices.
It’s called disaster economics, but it’s just an opportunity for a huge money grab by the richest, allowing them to monopolise further industries, while knowing they are the cause of the initial problem. They rely on the damage they cause!
They never learn...Democrats are terrible at messaging and republicans can get past the fact that the US did the best of all G20 nations with inflation while last time Trump created zero jobs and added the most ever to the national debt , or as Rep say , a great economy lol....I think they will learn this time as he has all 3 branches of Gov't and the wheels are going to really come off !

Well gollee I didn't know that. I thought a tariff was a terrorist. I thought Trump was gonna put terrorists on the products entering from Canada and Mexico.
Manufacturers will never move back to the US under increased tariffs. Manufacturers don't build plants just for domestic demand. Manufacturers build plants to export. It's basic math. It's a no-win situation. Tariffs is never an answer to rectify trade deficits. Selling products that the world wants at the price they want fixes trade deficits. In other words, Capitalism. There's an excellent video explaining why China will continue to lead as a major trading nation and it is a masterclass in international commerce. Basically, China holds the edge in rare metals (resources), green energy technology (cheapest form of energy, EVs, etc), skilled workers (China has the largest number of STEM graduates and more than doubles the US in patent applications annually), and it has modern infrastructure (automated sea ports, high speed rail network). ua-cam.com/video/NXvYWLEjUVg/v-deo.htmlsi=07ckokbEhHQTiW0Q How can democracies compete against China? An English businessman was sat in a hotel bar and next to him was a Chinese business man, in the UK to do business. They got into conversation about business with the English bloke complaining about the trade imbalance between the UK and China, in China's favour. The Chinese man was in the UK to buy UK shellfish, which they adore. The Chinese man said the Chinese were happy to take up the surplus, and more, of the fishing catch, that the UK could not now sell to the EU because of Brexit. Anyway, the trade imbalance. The Chinese Business Man said to his English counterpart - if you made an acceptable product and and sold it for say £1 to every adult in China, we would not be having this conversartion, the Englishman sked why and the Chinese man said "You'd be a billionaire"
The US companies that moved to Mexico for cheap labor will be forced to return to the US, or go bankrupt. A 25% tariff on a Mexican made Chevy truck entering the US is gonna cost GM 18,750 dollars. If they try to pass the tariff on to the consumer, the truck will sell for 93,750, but nobody is gonna buy it, because we have US made trucks that don't have a tariff.
With regard to Trumps other bright ideas like imposing tariffs on countries with huge markets for American high end goods like Mexico Canada and china he would be wise to remember that China has been buying huge amounts of U.S. stocks over the years (to keep the value of the Yuan low ) to the extent that the U.S. is almost in hock to the Chinese at present to a great degree. If the Chinese decide to unload these stocks in bulk the result would be catastrophic for the US stock market and economy . A trade war can trigger all kinds of possibilities for reciprocal actions by the Chinese and other governments
Lets see where we are in a years time I expect the US will be outperforming the EU & Britain. Its not like what we doing in Britain is the answer is it.
"Outperforming the EU and Britain?" with the highest prison population in the world, the longest working week, the worst pensions, the shortest holidays, pensions so bad that 80 year olds are turning 12 hour shift at Amazon and living in camper vans, legions of druggies and alcoholics layabout in the gutter - there are several types of wealth, it doesn't just come in the form of the Greenback Dollar
Since 2016 the new/old president has been determined to destroy the NAFTA2 agreement. (USMCA). Why? To promote the idea that a "traditional male lead family" is better, so manufacturing jobs (male dominated) will return. Look at what Vance and Project 2025 have in the agenda.
Because you and your blue haired friends would call him names if he only targeted Mexico. He won the popular vote. You should try saying that FACT to yourself out loud. You won’t.
Yes but Blighty and the US has shown they are a one trick pony that's out of tricks. They cannot compete with China, China saw EVs coming 10 years ago and prepared for it, and so the only way we can compete, is to impose sanctions
08:00 minutes in and she still hasn't stated this in an idiot proof way. Tariffs are not paid for by the exporters of goods, but the importers and thus passed to the consumers. Example: US puts Tarif on the import of European cars. Any EU cars imported to the US will have this tariff charge attached to it, so the US companies who are importing it will pay that charge not the EU. The US companies will have to raise the price for those EU cars to the US consumers.
Thanks for the breakdown! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
You are so right. The people complaining about the current economy would have kept complaining no matter who was in office. Because none of these things will solve the problem of stagnant wages in the US that haven’t increased with inflation. This has been going on since Raegan. Things will only get more expensive with tariffs and also with moving manufacturing to the US. The only benefit I see to manufacturing more things locally, is less fear of supply breakdown as things can be transported within the country. But still…this is a global economy and we import way too many parts to be totally independent. Local factories can still be damaged by natural disaster. We have an IV shortage in our hospitals right now due to a factory in North Carolina being hit by a hurricane, that was 60% of our IV bags.
It is pretty ridiculous to imagine being able to afford goods made in the USA unless they used £lave labour or almost total automation. I find it very confusing.
From 2025 every European citizens have to pay 1€ every month to Ukraine heroes! They are fighting for whole Europeans! We can support Ukraine heroes over 74 million euro every month! And it will not affect anything for Europeans citizens it just 1€! We must do this from 2025!
Tariffs are not the end goal. This is just Trump putting the cat among the pigeons before countries scramble to find a way forward. Henig comes across as a bit of wet fish who doesn't seem to understand Trump's deliberate ironies.
7:32 i am not sure companies will take the loss of profit on the shin, but, in general, every 500 Company today have fantasy profit margins and had their gold rush. they have taken it all now and just have to expect less profit. will they do that without a "fight" ? surly not.
I know free trade is a bit of a dogma in some circles but i don't hear any ideas on leveling the playing field with china on trade. Sure we can buy cheap chinese government subsidised cars and phones but will they be so cheap when they have a monopoly in those industries
Trump critics always find something to critic even if there isn't one. You idiots should wait until he's in office so that you can at least have legitimate grounds.
canada in particular, as far as its trade with the states is concerned, is mostly a resource economy. the spot price for, say, aluminum or brent crude is arrived at by the market. if american buyers can't afford that price plus a tariff, then canadian companies can sell it to other international buyers at that spot price. if i were, say, a dutch farming company, i'd be eyeing saskatchewan and maybe putting together a bid for fertilizer ingredients that is more favourable than dealing with americans under tariffs. in the past, canada's trade relationship with the united states had more nuance; there was for example a security element that might get jeopardized by playing hardball with the americans. but if putin picks a fight with canada over arctic oil deposits, who will trump side with?
Find a digital copy on the internet. It's a bunch of incoherent rambling with lots of antisemitism. I quite at page four or so because it's so awfully written.
In my opinion, Trump is trying to destroy the world before he dies because he's old and rich and he won't live forever. So when he dies; he wants to bring the world down with him. He doesn't care about making people suffer or inflation or national security. It's about destroying the world and everyone who disagrees with him before his time on earth is up. THAT'S IT!
Oh you mean TEFAE ... the empire formerly known as English, now a festering pool of unhappy people who still blame everyone for home-made problems and complaining that the rest just doesn't acknowledge their superiority? The proud nation where the very best with the very best education come up with solutions like "Just grow more" when addressing the UK's dependency on food imports? Yep, you can learn a lot from the English - quite often you can learn what not to do.
Astute Canadians (like me) see the border security issue as the ROOT PROBLEM. We see the threat of trade tariffs as a SYMPTOM of border security issues. Decision makers on both sides of the Canada-US border must first understand the nature and extent of collaboration and threat intelligence sharing between organizations responsible for security (ICE, CBP in the USA and the CBSA & RCMP in Canada) along the U.S.-Canada border. With respect to the flow of illegal migrants and opioids across the border, these agencies should collaboratively document and communicate: - what's working well , - what needs to be fixed, - who's responsible for the required fixes, - what resources and process improvements are needed to fix the defects and - when these identified defects can realistically be fixed. Responsible journalism- as well as federal, state and provincial heads of government- should focus on the CAUSES, not the CONSEQUENCES of inadequate border security.
I doubt very much if you are Canadian . You sound like Russian Troll . Fentanyl is manufactured by US and the amount of illegals coming across the Canadian border will be dwarfed by the amount of Americans fleeing the other way soon ?
Agree, we do need to strengthen both borders with Canada and Mexico. If not for fentanyl, for weapons. I’ve read weapons go from the US to Canada. What a mess! I live near the Mexican border, and it is a problem…perhaps not as big a problem as Fox News makes it seem though. The border bill we had would have solved it, but the republicans killed that bill.
I'd rather spend a little bit of extra money than having to deal with the Chinese products all over the shelf cuz they're not going to ship their stuff here if they're going to pay to pay extra I'm tired of cheap Chinese stuff
You will still have to deal with the Chinese products because the manufacture of everything from rubber boots to smartphones etc will not come back by using tariffs. The manufacture of these goods in the USA with US level wages is so much more expensive that made in the USA they become unaffordable for too many households. The relatively high standard of living of large parts of the population ONLY happened because a lot of imported goods are so cheap compared to domestically made. Plus, if you block access to the US market, so will other countries block access for US goods and companies. So that business drastically reduces.
Trump cannot talk about economics .. he does not understand it. His boast that he will introduce tariffs on imported goods misses the point as to who actually pays the tariffs . Also his grasp of global economics is nil. Any economist knows that If you bring all the manufacturing home to US you will pay a lot more for everything that could be manufactured a lot cheaper abroad. Rather than concentrating on high end goods and technology for export which brings in a lot more cash you waste time and money by “sweating the small stuff instead” It’s plain stupidity . Shoes that could be manufactured abroad for a fraction of what it cost in US will now cost consumers double ir triple . That’s just one basic rule of how global economics work. But that’s lost on .Trump. He can barely read the blurb on the packet of cereals he eats for breakfast let alone understand economics .
Its Un American to force Americans to buy only American,,, WE are a free country and deserve the freedom to buy from who ever we want, so there is free market competition and we get the best products at the best price
When American businesses pay these taxes - where does the money go? Is it then accessible to Trump and his government to use as they see fit? Understand how this cost gets passed on to consumer and is paid by businesses purchasing from countries where tariffs are imposed - but this needs some attention - to clarify where those funds go or how they get used. Please spend a bit of time elaborating that part of the equation. Thanks
Tariffs are a federal issue, so at the border, during the border crossing, the tariffs are paid by the importers. Those funds are gathered by the border officers and sent to the US Treasury department. Fortunately, I guess, the incoming president can't access the money, it goes into federal government coffers.
@@susanback7403 but more specifically, this is never a part of the discussion - especially with regards to "legally" and by policy and rules, the money collected is managed and/or distributed....of course realize completely if he could steal it to pay or not pay his debts - he would do exactly that or just hoard it and keep it from any good use to the public - it was a legitimate question
Trump thinks he’s an intellectual genius lol he’s the biggest clown on the block,by the time he’s finished America is going to look like a third world country
How ridiculous it is that these people are complaining about Trump's trade tariffs, that will affect big corporations and governments, and not Keir Starmer's Labour radical socio-economic agenda, that will affect common British people... Utter delusion. Utterly pitiful.
It's America having to go outside America 🇺🇲, to get better prices. (Yes you want a better deal but it's also a great National Trade projective for Businesses)
You don't know what you have until it's gone. Maybe after the war China will start to respect intellectual property and America will respect keeping your word.
52% of the worlds new products are patented by.........China. Some years ago, a Chinese coder that worked for Apple, in the US where a lot of Apple products are made, and developed! claimed that it was he that developed Siri, the coding that could handle functional linguistics. As he was working with Apple, they took the credit. The Chinese man claimed that as he was a contractor, the intellectual property was his, it was is idea and he could prove it. He took Apple to court, in the US and lost, when the TV presenter asked the man why he lost he smiled and replied, Apple had 11 lawyers, I could only afford 1. The West keeps running with this notion that China keeps stealing ideas, how can that be, all the manufacturing is there anyway, but no, it suits us to always point the finger of blame at someone else, that of course it the legacy of colonialism and imperialism, and the sooner we shake off that notion the better. The retiring chair of the Union of African Nations, spoke of the pride the African Nations are experiencing in more recent times, and is experiencing impressive economic gains, with the help of other countries, especially China. She said "When the Americans came here, they lectured us on where we were going wrong, they had this 'superior' attitude, they talked down to us. When the Chinese came, they did one very important thing - they showed us respect, the West could learn a lot from China"
I sincerely have the utmost sympathy for those who have such certainty about the future. How sad that you are so compromised that you have to continuously keep lying when everyone knows the truth. What a sad existence, but who am I to prevent anyone from having hope. One love ❤️ ❤❤
Actually jobs are already dropping. A steel nail company just lost 75% of it's customers because of the tariff danger. Other corporations are cutting staff, raising prices now.
You parroted the same narrative four years ago. Trump used tariffs as a bargaining chip and it worked great. He will do it again. You have Avery short memory.
Nope Tarrifs. Raising Prices "Let’s use a concrete example. Trump imposed a 50% tariff on imports of washing machines in 2018. Researchers estimate the value of washing machines jumped by around 12% as a direct consequence, equivalent to $86 per unit, and that US consumers paid around $1.5bn extra a year in total for these products. There is no reason to believe the results of even higher import tariffs from a future Trump administration would be any different in terms of where the economic burden would fall. The non-partisan Peterson Institute for International Economics has estimated Trump’s new proposed tariffs would lower the incomes of Americans, with the impact ranging from around 4% for the poorest fifth to around 2% for the wealthiest fifth. A typical household in the middle of the US income distribution, the think tank estimates, would lose around $1,700 each year." Ref: BBC
Unfortunately your own memory is showing gaps too. Tariffs imposed on steel, aluminum, ended up with the farmers losing the largest market they had for soy The Federal government had to pay hundreds of millions in compensation, and China has not imported soy since then.
THAT'S IT! RIghty - your king doesn't care about you! You won the destruction of the U.S. and it's allies. Have fun when your life gets worse when he's in office LOL

Smoot- Hawley is all I have to say, 1930 and a start to the Great Depression.
The US economy that owes China 800 billion? 😂 yeah that economy could be in trouble😂
He is kidding imagine the price increase on banana's.
So how many times has this super successful business man gone bankrupt ?
Doesn't fill me with confidence.

Lets see where we are in a years time I expect the US will be outperforming the EU & Britain. Its not like what we doing in Britain is the answer is it.

Since 2016 the new/old president has been determined to destroy the NAFTA2 agreement. (USMCA). Why? To promote the idea that a "traditional male lead family" is better, so manufacturing jobs (male dominated) will return. Look at what Vance and Project 2025 have in the agenda.

Tariffs are not paid for by the exporters of goods, but the importers and thus passed to the consumers.
Example:
US puts Tarif on the import of European cars. Any EU cars imported to the US will have this tariff charge attached to it, so the US companies who are importing it will pay that charge not the EU. The US companies will have to raise the price for those EU cars to the US consumers.

We have an IV shortage in our hospitals right now due to a factory in North Carolina being hit by a hurricane, that was 60% of our IV bags.
free trade with the us - define "free" trade. ask the director of nice what that will mean. pin these sods down to details

canada in particular, as far as its trade with the states is concerned, is mostly a resource economy. the spot price for, say, aluminum or brent crude is arrived at by the market. if american buyers can't afford that price plus a tariff, then canadian companies can sell it to other international buyers at that spot price. if i were, say, a dutch farming company, i'd be eyeing saskatchewan and maybe putting together a bid for fertilizer ingredients that is more favourable than dealing with americans under tariffs. in the past, canada's trade relationship with the united states had more nuance; there was for example a security element that might get jeopardized by playing hardball with the americans. but if putin picks a fight with canada over arctic oil deposits, who will trump side with?
When America itches, Canada scratches

Astute Canadians (like me) see the border security issue as the ROOT PROBLEM. We see the threat of trade tariffs as a SYMPTOM of border security issues. Decision makers on both sides of the Canada-US border must first understand the nature and extent of collaboration and threat intelligence sharing between organizations responsible for security (ICE, CBP in the USA and the CBSA & RCMP in Canada) along the U.S.-Canada border.
With respect to the flow of illegal migrants and opioids across the border, these agencies should collaboratively document and communicate:
- what's working well ,
- what needs to be fixed,
- who's responsible for the required fixes,
- what resources and process improvements are needed to fix the defects and
- when these identified defects can realistically be fixed.
Fear-mongering.
Fake news.

Trump knows what he is doing. Everybody would be better off getting on the Trump train!
Bias much ?
Actually, in shoes only a fraction of the cost you pay in retail goes to the workers who make them.
@ well it will be even less of Tariffs are imposed .
It's a version of the old story: " I'll show you mine, if you show me yours."
Its Un American to force Americans to buy only American,,, WE are a free country and deserve the freedom to buy from who ever we want, so there is free market competition and we get the best products at the best price
You're a free county? where on earth did you get that idea, you are told you are free, tell anyone something enough times and they'll believe anything
gorka is so gross

If there is going to be a USA-China war the Americans won’t wait for China to start it!

You parroted the same narrative four years ago. Trump used tariffs as a bargaining chip and it worked great. He will do it again. You have Avery short memory.
Nope
Tarrifs. Raising Prices
"Let’s use a concrete example.
A typical household in the middle of the US income distribution, the think tank estimates, would lose around $1,700 each year."

Who's Avery?
Unfortunately your own memory is showing gaps too. Tariffs imposed on steel, aluminum, ended up with the farmers losing the largest market they had for soy
The Federal government had to pay hundreds of millions in compensation, and China has not imported soy since then.
