I think I understand your question, but correct me if I'm wrong. The laser beam has a width to it, but I typically don't change it. You can alter the kerf offset in the easy set panel (new version of XCS) to account for the slight difference in thickness. But again, this isn't something I have had the need to change with my designs.
If the material is not listed, and it's safe to be used with a diode laser, it's best to run a material test array. This can be done in the software and will help you determine the best settings.
Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge! I am new to laser engraving and bought an S1, but was disappointed it did not include a tutorial like yours so I could get started right away. 😀
I bought the XTool S1 7 months ago and I've genuinely been too 'overwhelmed' (or scared!) to set it up and start finding out how to use it. I've even covered it up with a sheet so it's out of my line of view so I don't often think about it. It's my weirdest/most expensive purchase, ever. I like the idea of being able to use it, but after 7 months it'll probably never happen.
Just got my S1 20w set up and made my first cut. Prior to getting machine I watched a ton of videos but with hands on now I have a couple questions. In the layers section, say I want the cutting function to happen last without having to use the ignore function, is there a way to use layers in the order I want them to work? (Hope that makes sense) When I bring in a SVG file and I want to remove or change something within the design, for example wording I want to change the words individually, how would I edit the words or delete or move them? Thank you for your assistance. You have excellent videos!
XCS is set up to engrave first then cut. If it's not doing that for you or you want to change something, you can use layers and the software will operate Layer 1 first then 2 and so on. Not all SVGs are created equal. Some you are not able to alter when imported and that's due to how the designer created it. Look for files that say you can alter the design or add your own text. You won't be able to delete and type with the same font but you can add your own to a lot of designs. I get most of mine from Creative Fabrica and am able to find lots of great editable options. Hope this helps, thanks for watching and enjoy your machine!
Great question. I use them like different projects. The laser only works on the visible canvas. So sometimes I have the main project on tab 1 then work on pieces in other tabs to give myself more room to work.
Thank you for this video .. Learnt a few new things. Although still have loads to learn
just buy the s1, this video is so helpful i just subscribed
Thank you!
Excellent video. Thank You!
Thank you for the explanation, I love your videos! I have a question: for cutting, what width for the strokes do you recommend for the SVG images?

Would've been great to know the solution if the material being used is not in the user defined material

How do I get the tool bar at the top.
You may have a different version of the software. You can check for updates under Settings.
Very helpful tutorial! Thank You! 🙌🏻👏🏻
Just got the S1, This is very helpful. Thank you.

Very helpful, but I’ve been trying to find help on how to use the canvas tabs at the bottom, any help on how to use multiple canvas tabs?

Big help, thank you.
Extremely helpful!
