- Ritchie Valens
Richard Steven Valenzuela (May 13, 1941 - February 3, 1959), known professionally as Ritchie Valens, was an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. A rock and roll pioneer and a forefather of the Chicano rock movement, Valens' recording career lasted eight months, as it abruptly ended when he died in a plane crash.
During this time, he had several hits, most notably "La Bamba", which he adapted from a Mexican folk song. Valens transformed the song into one with a rock rhythm and beat, and it became a hit in 1958, making Valens a pioneer of the Spanish-speaking rock and roll movement.
On February 3, 1959, on what has become known as "The Day the Music Died", Valens died in a plane crash in Iowa, an accident that also claimed the lives of fellow musicians Buddy Holly and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, as well as pilot Roger Peterson. Valens was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.
Go, Johnny, Go!
Go, Johnny Go! is a 1959 rock and roll film starring Alan Freed as a talent scout searching for a future rock and roll star. Co-starring in the film are Jimmy Clanton, Sandy Stewart, and Chuck Berry. The film has also been released as Johnny Melody, The Swinging Story and The Swinging Story of Johnny Melody.
Note To All Of My Faithful Followers [And Everybody Else]:
Purists and Perfectionists will note that if they watch this video very carefully that the actual song that Ritchie Valens was singing in the film clip taken from the movie “Go, Johnny, Go!” was actually “Ooh My Head”, not “Come On Lets Go”. That being said, this video is a compilation of several Ritchie Valens film clips, including some very rare home videos, and I just decided to set the video to “Come On Lets Go”.

I guess this is what you call a masterpiece
It's hard to believe he's just 17 here. And died at 17. An enormous talent. All the music we lost. :(
Agreed! So much talent cut short.
When your music is so good even Chuck Berry gets up and jams, you KNOW it's GREAT ...which Richie Valens was and still IS !!!
That's my favorite part when chuck berry stands up snappin his fingers clearly loving what he's hearing and that's how you know Richie was a force to be reckoned with! Thankshe first Latino rock and roll artist 💯he was going to go far!!!! Only 17 and in high school and already had three hits! Just imagine how much farther and more famous he could have been! they should have never got on that plane that plane shouldn't have been able to fly in that weather! Its so sad because it could have been prevented!
I think Ritchie Valens is probably one of the most underrated pop rock stars of his era. It is too bad his life was cut short. May his music live on forever...
É zaf
He was magic
Richie's music has lasted forever my love don't worry it'll be around for eternity
Real, Rock!!!
If he had lived, I bet he would be even more of a legend.
Ricardo Valenzuela, Ritchie Valens 🇲🇽🇺🇲
Never forgotten
such a talent, and so sad only 17 had his whole life infront of him
RIP Ritchie, Buddy and the Big Bopper😢😢😢
And the pilot. Everybody forgets the pilot.
💯👍😎
💯👍🎵🎶🙏🏻😎
If Ritchie Valens wouldn't have died so young he would have been a Mega Rock & Roll 🌟
He had potential to be perhaps the greatest rock and roll king ever!
@@valuecalc Yes that's right he could have been greater then Elvis
@@frankwood7878, as much as I love Elvis, Ritchie had the power to have gone further. His brief career was so phenomenal.
@@valuecalc Yes his talent was cut much too short. Let's not forget about Buddy Holly & The Big Bopper. They were great as well. They would have went on & created more classic songs had they lived on. They are jamming somewhere in the Stars now
@@frankwood7878, right. Bud and Bop must have had deep potential as well. Can you imagine if these three men had shown up together at WOODSTOCK in August of 1969, just ten-and-a-half years later?
Rip young fella. Never forgotten
Hello Marti, how are you doing. I was in the comment section and I came across yours I was thrilled to say Hello
Damn he seemed like such a good kid.
Richie Valliens was a very talented singer. He died to young, and to soon. When the plane crashed,we lost three musical icons. The music industry, took a huge loss.We can only imagine how many beautiful songs,he would have written and sang.
Agreed
😔🥺
Grande artista o Ritchie Valens. Que pena que ele partiu para a eternidade tão jovem, aos 17 anos.
Can't beat these sounds ❤ R.I.P Ritchie Valens
This is good music
there is no doubt he was going to be one of the greatest rock n roll Artists of all time , a true Icon , God Bless you Ritchie
So talented. So young.
His career only lasted a few months how much higher could he have gone February 3 1959 the day the music died
I'm glad to hear Ritchie signing, so many make the mistake of putting La Bamba movie soundtrack on, and that Los Lobos versions. 🤔 Cheap hollywood must not wanted to cough up the money for original recording's? R.I.P. Richard Steven Valenzuela. The Great Ritchie Valens☮️🙏♥️
R IP Maestro
I now get why he's in the RocknRoll hall of fame
Ritchie, not Richie
@@janeschwartz7049 thanks, I missed that 😔

We never got a chance to really see his potential.
Only 17 years old, when he
Pass away. What would
Have been.
Ritche Valens 1941-1959 Rest In Peace 💓💓
Great tune... Loved it since I discovered it from Los Lobos.
The McCoys covered this song back in 1966. It peaked at #22 on Billboard in May-June of that year. They do a pretty good job, worth taking a listen to.
What a beautiful country was USA then
every time I watch this video, a "pain" invades my soul! he was a good boy, from a very simple family, who was successful with his songs and unfortunately left us too early, with other artists and in a very bad way! But God knows what he does, right?
Strange that people blame God for things like this and never mention his adversary Satan or ascribe bad things to him
You both need to grow the fuck up, we lost them because the weather was bad that night. The plane shouldn't of been in the air, it's that simple people.
@@davidandrew477 oh for goodness sake man, not you aswell.
He died at the tender age of 17. Gone. But never forgotten.
Little guy doin the twist at 01:40 was GETTIN IT!!!
Such a fire song and I’m happy we have this footage of a real legend

I rather listen to this era of music, even though I am a 90s kid, but these songs have rhythm that make you want to listen to it.
Now I wanna watch LaBamba again
True Trailblazer. RIP Ritchie
Wow excellent guitarrist Richie pride latino 😎🎸🎶🎶🎶🇨🇷 greetings from costarica
Richie was a kid! He died at 17 yrs old. What true talent. I couldn't do nothing at his age.
Um dos dias mais triste da história do rock .....
rocky marciano ㅠㅜ "lost legendary"
a true musical treasure, the three pioneers, including ritchie were lost 58 years ago as of friday 3 feb.2017. still is upbeat still stirs the spirit.i was 12 years old when he was taken by the currents of life. the world was better for his life and the gifts he gave.

I love listening to ricthie valance so tracic
He was handsome !!! . He was born to be a legend .
That's right. He's a legend now. Love and appreciate him a lot.
What part of the World are you listening from?
Época boa...show as musica dá aquela época....ritchi valens
Am I the only one old enough to ask....is that Chuck Berry on the left of that group sitting at the table??? Geez, they were the days!
God, he could sing
He's really a great singer. This is a really beautiful song, so magically woven together. It's nice to meet you. If you don't mind I would love us to be friends. I understand that we don't know each other before now but one thing I believe is that it takes only a minute to accept friendship and that's why I have asked to accept my request of friendship. It would be an honor, l'm looking forward to a good friendship between us. May I ask where you are from?
Damn, gone way too soon he was pure talent
Viver tao pouco nessa vida e se imortalizar assim...feito pra poucos
We lost 3 musical legends
Albert, that is right. Bop, Bud, and Rich.
@@valuecalc the 1950 's had great music and great people who sang those songs,. If I had a time machine I would go back for one day to here there music, and tell don't get on that plane desater is headed your way if you get on that plane.
@@alberttriay2594, the 50s were fantastic beyond words. I love the soul that it produced. So, yes, a time machine would be fantastic.
The best rock and roll representative of 1957 ...forever is bet will still rock ..shine bright Ricardo Valenzuela
AMAZING lo
Isso sim é uma bela canção
Isso sim, dá muita saudades
Such bad luck for this young guy who had so many dream and who was supposed to get huge.
We will always wonder about the songs he didn’t get to write and sing. Just like my dear Selena 💕💕
Who knows . Must have been Santana or Bad Bunny ...
He was on 17. DAMN!
UN GRANDE RITCHIE VALENS ,QUE PENA CUANTO MAS HUBIESE DADO POR EL ROCK
¡ NO LO CREO... !
Fantsstic!!
Before Gloria Estafan, Ricky Martin, J Lo, Shakira, Agelsius, there was the genesis, Richie Valens
I AGREE 👍💯👏 !!!!!
Like other rock and roll singers of his time. Ritchie Valens had a rhythm in his soul that made him what he was.
RIP Richie ....ROCK AND ROLL FOREVER ....In Heavenly peace.
Un R . I . P . Ritchie ! ? .
Legendary
My ritchie valens 😍🌸😍
Keep sang that song ricti
Superb song great artist RIP
What bums he out is the music that would have come after this that we never got to hear. What would late 60s and 70s Valens and holly sounded like. Much like the Beatles. This was the the “i want to hold your hand” stage of his music. Too bad we never got to hear his sgt. peppers stage
Love,,,, very,,,much
9/20/21 Well, here I am ... crying like a baby. Re watching La Bamba & it beckoned me here Ritchie Valenzuela has been one my favorite Rockers since ... 1957! .... I was 3 when he instantly shot to fame as a teen & tragically died 8 months later. I LOVED this song & Donna ... but I went NUTS for LA BAMBA, so much so that my cariño (nickname) until about age 12 was La Bamba - which I proudly embraced! ~~ Thank you SO much for sharing this rare footage & home movies of Ritchie & la familia Valenzuela.
#VivaLaRazaHispana 🇵🇷 🇨🇺
And for Ritchie, RIP/DEP: 🇺🇸 🇲🇽

I was 13 years old and at school in the UK. I loved Ritchie Valens and his music, I still do. x
What a great song! We lost a huge talent. RIP Ritchie.
...Which singer would have Chuck Berry enjoying himself and listening....well Ritchie Valens.
Super talent - only 17 1/2 when he died so tragically. I still love his music. I remember "the day the music died" - I was in junior high school. The entire school was in mourning; these were the first rock & roll deaths. (Yes, Johnny Ace passed earlier, but unless you could get black-oriented music stations, you wouldn't know of him; and Chuck Willis wasn't that well known when he died tragically young. Besides, Ace lost at Russian roulette; Holly, Valens and Richardson went down through no fault of their own.) I still play their music, but especially every February 3rd.
