- Modern biotechnology changes straw into something that's needed much more urgently: sustainable and climate-friendly fuel. In the face of climate change and dwindling reserves of fossil fuels, the search is on for an environment friendly alternative, especially in the automotive sector which consumes about 50 percent of the world's crude oil production. Biofuels already exist, but so far they have been produced from canola, corn or cereals -- edible plants also needed as food. »With the innovative sunliquid process, Clariant has now succeeded in converting difficult to access sugar from previously unusable plant residues like cereal straw, corn stover or residues from sugar cane almost completely into high-quality ethanol,« says Professor Dr. Andre Koltermann, Head of Clariant's Biotech & Renewables Center. The cellulosic ethanol produced by this process is a second-generation biofuel distinguished by a class climate balance.

It is very interesting, i just want yo know what kind of material you use to separate alcohol from fermentation liquor, i mean traditionally i thought It was used a destillation processes.

After the biomass has been fermented what do you do with the remains. Since the straw itself contains macro and micronutrients which are key to maintaining a good soil organic matter. Wil us farmers be able to get it back on the land
Hi Kyle, Thank you for your question. Yes, the remaining stillage after fermentation is sugar free, but does still contain other valuable nutrients. Hi Ralph, The sunliquid process is an industrial process for the conversion of cellulosic feedstock into ethanol. The capacity for a commercial production plant is in the range of 50.000 to 150.000 metric tons of ethanol per year. Investors for such a plant can come from different areas, including the agricultural sector, e.g. farmers cooperatives. However, size and set-up of such plants exeeds what you would typically put in your backyard. For example, a 50 kta plant requires an area of approximately 6-7.5 hectares (14-18 acres). bio fuel is not new it has been around about 4000 years or more.
for what making a moonshine still sound as if it is a new high tech invention just about all grass wood even paper can be used to do this if it grows out of the ground you can pretty much make alcohol out of it. also you can make vinegar which is the base of most acids and can be used to make every thing from explosives to cold medicines. you do not need to be a chemist to know this a phd history professor can teach you the truth....just another racket to stop people from being free and non dependent on governments or big corporations. sorry to bust the scam being laid on the human race again.
please see perfume and oil production you can find it in a book called the bible. water to wine start there it will also teach of a moral compass to not let this form of tech not be a curse to man and cause greed and wars. look at it as a history book not a religious book and you will find it all in there...
