During my year as Master of the lodge, I had few public programs through which the public is invited, such as Who is Who in. (my town) and the intention was to acknowledge key personnel in town who are not Freemasons to intice them to ask how to join. Going out on parade, on St. Patrick Day, with a float, was one way to showcase the lodge. But I have no issue with direct invitation. I will vote for it if ever 😊
Another nice video! Thanks again! Here under the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, it recently was made permissible to reach out to others regarding Freemasonry without first being asked. As I am a Fellow Craft, new to the craft, Entered June 15th, Passed September 21st I have no real experience with this. From what I have seen, however, most Masons here seem to stick with the "old ways" of waiting to be asked before volunteering any information. I know I had to specifically ask my friend who was one of my recommenders. I also notice that many Masons here have Square and Compass emblems on their cars, wear square and compass lapel pins and and / or neck ties. Many also have specialty license plates on their vehicles from The Commonwealth with a Square and Compass and "Blue Lodge" on the top of the plate.
I´m ana EA from Miguel Paz Baraona #2 lodge in the Grand Orient of Honduras, we do not have anything like that here in fact most brothers like to keep their membership for themselves with a few exceptions, what we do have is a fraternal coffee night where a profane can come in freely and ask questions, in fact being an EA I can't sponsor anybody but if someone do asks I can take them to the fraternal coffee night where there is always a MM and he can take it from there; asides from that the only public display is either on the independence month here in September if we get enough brothers to form a group and march together and on the day celebrating a country's or Latin American famous forefather when we all go and dedicate a wreath at this persons monument. Triple fraternal hug from San Pedro Sula
That's rad the 32 degree Scottish Rite pin. I didn't know you were Eastern Star and Scottish Rite! You kinda made me chuckle when you mentioned some don't even wanna ask thinking they would be disqualified for merely asking! Jared a guy asked me to go to dinner at the Orange County lounge. Is that against the rules to ask a friend to join for dinner. Is that not the same as asking to join. Because he was 32 degrees. Well anyhow. I am just about there to petition. I think it just might be my path. Sort of predestined. Because what I have read I just believe in the principles and fellowship. Brotherhood and a morale compass + integrity that shines in are everyday life. My Grandpa has a ring. But my Uncle got it. Or I should say he took it. He's not even a mason. That's fine he's the oldest son. I will just get one later. I did buy one though on my own. And a tie. And a hat. But left that at the movie theaters. And decided to leave it there. Saw alita the battle angle. I just felt TGAOTU just said to leave it there. So I did.
Greetings, Brother - I'm a Peruvian in Lima, Peru - I have 40 years as a mason and have little by little reached and presided all degrees in the York rite (Royal Arch of Scotland) and the 32nd degree in the AASR, I'm a Past Master of my Lodge, Independence 31. A most interesting experience - I often say "becoming a Freemason is, after my family and my profession, the best thing in my life". As to recruiting members, here you are encouraged to invite men whom you see they are promising candidates. And surely, interested non masons can approach one and express their desire.
Great information. As always brother , I think it’s good for non-members to at least be aware in a positive way to let them know it exists just like people know there are fraternities in colleges ....some good men fit for the square and the compass don’t even know it’s dozens of lodges and. Opportunity to join but are walking among and have family and friends that are Masonic ...with that said I agree with the code and logic of “.to be one ask one “ ..I’ll keep asking ...even through the social distancing pandemic ! Thank you brother . I believe this fraternity needs to be appreciated and recognized for outstanding service through charity and overall “making good men better” ... I wouldn’t take wearing those rings lightly ...like my father and grand father ...they just were not around to assist in my journey but your a great teacher of the craft I think Mississippi should recognize you for that .. “thank you brother “ 🤝👁👌🏼🤘🏼
I'm in California and we are not allowed to recruit. As far as S&Cs there are really no rules but most of us have an emblem on our vehicles. Some do and some don't wear lapel pins or tie clasps.
Hi. Thank you for your videos. Genuinely interesting and informative... I was wondering, with all the negative thoughts and views on freemasonry (from online sources etc.), do you ever get any negativity from people? Thank you in advance.
I think the old way is best.. After all if one wants to join bad enough, they will do the research, and the small amount of footwork involved in starting the process.. With as much information as is out there concerning Freemasonry, if you havent gotten in due to not even beginning the first steps, then imo, you didnt really want it.. I think direct invitation would bring more problems than anything, as casuals would increase, thus weakening the quality of the Fraternity in some ways.. No, the old way is best.. After all, he who seeks, finds..
I am asking this question to other Brothers to find out a more thorough answer. As is I know October is the month we do that in Mississippi, but I would say that EA's should not be wearing the "Master Mason's Emblem" - but others may have a different opinion.
Well I must say I don't have any great information to relay. Nobody I spoke to was sure about what jurisdictions/states do this and when, but everybody did agree that if an EA is going to wear the S&C that it would need to be in EA form.
Another reason was I had the privilege of knowing my great-grandfather for many years before he died and he was involved in masonry for decades and he was also a Shriner in the great state of Illinois
I HAVE A QUESTION So i'm in my early 20's and want to know can you still be a freemason and take time off I say this because I fear the rise of my inability to keep the committment full time While also going to school So my QUESTION is can you be a freemason and still take time off like not going to a meeting because maybe you have an exam to study for. Also what positions in the lodge would be available to me as an entered apprentice (Assuming your allowed to enter the lodge as an entered apprentice).
Please allow me to answer your first question this way: I know of many men who are dues-paying Master Masons, but have not set food in Lodge for many, many, years. As for work for the EA - I would like to hope your Lodge has something to engage you, but you would not be an officer in the Lodge until you are a MM.
Get to know the men in your lodge. The fellowshiping will be what keeps you coming back. When you do come back, learn everything you can - not just the things you are required to learn, but the meanings behind them, why they are there, etc.
Greetings from Ohio south gate potter #782. We pretty much do the same as you guys. No way do we recruit at all. I always have a mason ring on or a lapel pin. Also have all my York Rite emblems on my car also. Keep up the videos I really enjoy them.
how old do you have to be to join a masonary (sorry if that is the wrong name) if so is it different for each state. i am from texas so i say yall alot too
Now-days most jurisdictions require you to be 18 yrs old, but a few still abide by the old standard, which is/was 21 years of age. I am not familiar enough to know which one is correct for Texas. There are also "youth" organizations affiliated with Freemasonry - a video about those will come out soon!
I asked a viewer from Texas in another video and they said: "In accordance with the Grand Lodge of Texas, a petitioner must meet the age requirement of 18yo. I understand in some jurisdictions the lawful age is 21. But, at my lodge it is 18yo." I hope that helps!

Interesting to learn that about PA. Thanks for sharing. I would have expected them be a hold out for "doing it the old way" :-)

Is October the Square and compass month for the whole United states? Should a E.A. wear any apparel signifying masonry?
