"I'm not gonna read any further." Truly a yugioh player.
I'd love to see you give them modern, complicated yugioh decks and see them try to figure out what the cards and combos are supposed to do
Dark world...
Or one of them with a tier 0 Tearlaments and the other with a 2002 beatdown deck
Tbh I wanna see them play the Goat format. I genuinely think they would enjoy it most.
I know nothing about modern Yu Gi and I totally agree
Yeah absolutely. This has basically nothing to do with how the game has been played in the past 10 years.
“You’ve learned how to unread so you’re officially ready to play”
Oh Leonie I love you
When the YGO players eventually have to do the MTG version of this, I'm very excited to see Carl act as the judge, since he's always an enjoyable judge in the 'normal' MTG videos.
I think it's way easier to transition from yugioh to magic than vice versa. The games are very similar but yugioh has more specific rules.
@@Kalenz1234Im Not positive about that one, the Combat Phase can bei very confusing to YuGiOh Players.
@@mcbescheiden725 I agree, plus the resource system. Yugioh's complexity comes from learning specific interactions and the combo-heavy nature. MtG's complexity comes from system-wide mechanics that are very, very different from YGO
Hogaak era modern vs. Rakdos Scram. Scram get the one ring, blowmaster to complete with Dredge Hogaak. The 3 worst set for Modern and let the Yu-Gi-Oh player navigation these waters.
I'm pretty sure I've already seen a video of YGO players trying to play magic and getting punished when they get things wrong...I used to be a YGO player and there's no way I would go back. The game has become not fun, but these hosts are great and it makes this enjoyable still.
That dance when he handed jamin the price: priceless
10/10 😂
Whole video was great but the dance was legendary hahaha
Unlearning how to read is the most important part of playing Yugioh
Yah, everyone knows that the best yugioh players actively practice illiteracy and even reducing their verbal vocabulary at the highest levels 😂😂
As a former yugioh player I feel like having them play actual decks from around the GX era would have been a better representation. What a fun episode! please repeat it with a bit more complicated cards 😄
It's 2am in the morning and I never thought I'd see Jamin do push-ups while balancing on product.. the more you know!
"pm" but also "morning"?
@@GreenMonkeySam That's probably a rule in Yu Gi Oh
It's 7am in the night here and I fully agree
@@GreenMonkeySam This is 7 months later but.. yeah.. you're right.
@Jedicake It be like that. Especially 7 months later
12:17 Alexandrite Dragon would have to be summoned into Defense Position, not Attack Position with Silent Doom
Yeah. But it didn't really matter to the outcome.
@@EskChan19 Still had to spin the wheel tho
@@alextygesen3101 Yeah, he could have rolled "Win Instantly"
Jamin: "Special Summon!"
Leoni: "I just wanted you to know that you can't just say the words "Special Summon" and expect anything to happen."
Jamin: "I didn't say it. I declared it."
I feel like Jamin watching this. We all have a little bit of Jamin in ourselves.
I. DECLARE. BAAAAANKRUPTCYYYY.
Thank you. I said the exact same thing. "But he declared it..."
He was just using anime logic
In my opinion you guys are such an underrated channel, as a commander player it's really interesting to learn about other formats and you guys do that so well and you make everything so easy to understand and even introducing games we may not be as familiar with, you guys are my favorite magic youtube channel,
A commander player
That's such a kind thing of you to say :) I'm happy you enjoy our videos! We put a lot of love and effort into them! We'll keep on doing our best to make sure you are entertained by our shenanigans :)
@@CardmarketMagic it shows how much care you guys put into these
This video is gold. Loved the humor, and the dance at the end was on FLEEK
I read your comment around the time they're dancing to "that's my ship" and genuinely thought you were talking about that. Imagine how surprised I was at the end 😅
Imagine they were playing Tearlaments full power, you can describe it as Dredge on crack.
Melding from the grave would be such a cool mechanic.
The reason you cant summon in face up defense is to force players to take a risk to their lifepoints if they want a monster effect.
Archaic rule tbh, with the speed of the game now, it really wouldn't make a difference.
Y'all's energy is so contagious. Keep it up.
I have almost no Yugioh knowledge, but this video was a ton of fun just thanks to the great editing, plot, and insane premise. Nicely done!!!
They didn't even play YGO
This is how the game was back in 2003.
This isn't even GX era ygo (2006) lol
@@selfloathingweeklyyes this is like stone age yu gi oh
12:20 he didn't put it in defense position! JUDGE!!!
Imagine if every creature was a tutor, costs 0 mana, and had built in counterspells as free activated abilites and could meld for any card in your 2nd sideboard. Thats yugioh.
That certainly explains why yugioh games never last longer than a turn
@ICantThinkOfAFunnyHandle the thing is i WISH i was exaggerating.
@ICantThinkOfAFunnyHandle i quit shortley after the printing of a card called red eyes dark dragoon. Here are its effects translated into magic terms. If you dont beleive me, feel free to look the card up.
Slight context, you can easily meld at instant speed for 0 mana directly from your library. Like, tutor the meld peices directly onto the battlefield, already melded.
Heres the creature:
Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon
Meld using Dark Magician and Red-eyes Black Dragon, or any Dragon creature with any ability.
Indestructible, shroud.
0: destroy target creature an opponent controls, they loose life equal to its base power. Activate only during your first main phase.
(You can use this effect a number or times per turn up to number of creatures without abilities used to meld into this creature).
Discard a card: (split second) counter target spell or ability. If it was an ability from a creature source, destroy that creature and increase Dragoon's power by 1.
Okay not every monster is a tutor or a searcher, and not every monster has negates. The entire branded deck has a whole 1 negate in Rindbrumm. But i get what you mean.
@@bobfranklin2572and the funny thing is, Dragoon sucks. It has done absolutely nothing in TCG.
As someone who plays both Yugioh and Magic, i approve, but also good luck. You will Need it...
I've been having a ton of fun watching you try out different card games. Would love to see more!!
Honestly love to see players try out new card games. It's always super fun! I'd love to see you guys play the Digimon card game (cause I'm very biased 😂)
Lmao, the wholesome/intense Yu-gi-oh training montages.
2:40 Lmfao "alright... I special summon them", the summoning is special now. :D
This was excellent, fun from beginning to end, thank you all for your efforts and all the production that goes into these.
I know it's a completely different set of channels, but I just watched Cimo teach Rarran how to play Yu-Gi-Oh Edison Format, and I think that'd make a good episode. Modern Yu-Gi-Oh is way too complicated to teach in an episode or two, but Edison has the perfect balance of old school slow gameplay restrictions and modern combo potential. Just a thought.
This episode is already using low power and simple starter level decks. It’s the same idea.
r guy is a cloutseeker. Not reccomend it.
@@eavyeavy2864 what r guy?
Never knew how much I wanted a plush Toralf but here we are
Okay the bit at the beginning about making yugioh fun with the lil music playing, that was absolutely adorable, instantly clicked the like button lol.
i came into this video not knowing anything about yu-gi-oh and i'm leaving in exactly the same state
I feel ya :)
Its very easy to learn and pick up but they didn't even play 2006 YGO
This was caveman YGO
As an avid Cardmarket viewer, I humbly request that Adam dance as often as possible.
I came for the Magic, I subbed for the entertainment!!
Top notch video again Cardmarket Team. Never upset with an upload
this channel was what got me to play magic but as a yugioh player this was absolutely spectacular to witness
i do really like this kind of video and like i think i could go both ways like next time see how YGO players fare with managing other resources besides the cards in their hands
Oh this is gonna be a fucking SHITSHOW and I'm HERE FOR IT BABY!!!
I'd love to see this again but with more meta relevant decks. Give them a solid hour to try and learn the strategies and then turn them loose to figure it out, plus the Wheel of Punishment... it'd be hilarious.
It’s always a good day when Adam and Johnny are on the channel.
Great video guys. Love watching all of you together.
I loved this so much! Adam's dancing in the background was so hilarious!
The dance at the end 😂 beautiful
3:00 I wonder which one he gave....
12:21 Hold up, Alexandrite Dragon was wrongly not Special Summoned in Defense Position!
13:28 Aww, tragic, he doesn't wanna duel again.
Fun video! Once again, thanks for uploading! Here's looking forward to more like this from you!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA another great video!! I definitely want more of these with more complicated decks!
awesome vid as usual! played yugioh for 16 years and have been playing magic for the last 3, love both games. and love me some Jamin and Thoralf!!
I’m a way bigger mtg fan than YGO, but I like watching both the card market crews so this was a very fun video :)
Lol this was highly entertaining! Love that dance by Adam in the end 😂😂😂. now we gotta see a version by Carl! 😂😂😂
This was so good!! Please keep going up in complication!!
Jamin's training montage cracked me up!
As a former yugioh player who moved to magic with this channel, I love seeing you guys trying it out :D
"Yo, Cardmarket - Yugioh! How about traininx us to become Duel Monsters Champs overe heere?"
"Very well, but it will require hours of rigorous, mostly off-screen practice."
"Really? I don't even get thirty seconds of trainin' montage?"
"Who do you think you are, Rocky Balboa?"
Glad to see this vid especially since your yugioh channel hasn't posted in a while. And it's interesting to see the comments of the baffled MTG-only players here, especially when the game with the cardpool showcased here was very much still derivative of MTG.
I can only imagine the reactions with decks using current strategies haha.
We can handle a joke to our expense. I always believed Magic was the more complex game, turns out I was wrong. :)
@@pinobluevogel6458Eh don't feel too bad they're actually more similar than people seem to think.
"You have now unlearned how to read which qualifies you as perfect yugioh players" is a great way to start this off
this is great! been waiting for something like this!
modern yugioh is complicated, but old yugioh was so much simpler. still fun game though.
will be patiently waiting for when cardmarket yugioh learns how to play mtg.
It seems like there are a ton of exceptions and specific rules. Unlike with magic, where most of the rules are on the cards. (or they sometimes break the rules)
I love the fact that they made them play the game WITOUT explaining them the rules.
This channel never fails to give us top tier content
Liked cuz I was not expecting a training montage. Also the learned to read line 😂😂😂
Ya know, even though it’s a joke to do the physical activity to prep for a card game, I feel like I got so much better at TCGs after getting into body weight training. Spending such a long time analyzing a board and making decisions is genuinely tiring, so good management of cardio, breathing, and endurance makes a huge difference.
damnit this sounds correct and i wish it didn’t
As someone that used to go to grand prix's, I think the most important things to do are:
- Staying hydrated, make sure to drink a lot of water, especially if the venue is hot and full of people
- Eating healthy food, before and at a normal lunch time (don't be tempted into fried snack foods that are present usually)
- Make sure you walk around in between rounds, preferably outside to get a lot of air and some sun
- If possible, try to have a fast pace when playing, so you can finish your matches quickly
(this makes sure you don't get into the draw bracket and gives you more time in between rounds to recover)
I've done all of these things and I generally can keep my energy up for the whole day. Usually later in the day, I add coffee into the mix, but not before. The boost can help to give your mind a little kickstart. Try to stay away from sugary drinks, or sugar altogether, this completely screws with your energy levels because of the insulin response in your body.
@@pinobluevogel6458
Oh cool, is Grand Prix the name they give to big Magic events? I kinda like that.
Totally agree with all of this though. Jesse Kotton has often said one of the best pieces of advice he can give is to have a book to read in between rounds. Keeps you relaxed and stimulated so you can get away from the game but then jump right back in.
@@CaptainMarvel4Ever That sounds like a great idea as well. I was simply adding to your physical workout advice, even though it seems a little counterintuative, I think excercise will help with any high level thinking games for sure.
The Magic Grand Prix has been down since the covid years and hasn't really picked up again. Hopefully, this will come back as it were some of the most fun events to have, meeting people from all over the world, including top players, cosplayers and content creators as well.
@@pinobluevogel6458
Well I think it’s not just exercise. Having a good well rounded routine in general is a huge help when you’re going to a tournament grinding games out. At a certain point you’re not just tested on game skill but your skill as a person all around (which why I probably never actually win).
I feel like no matter what card game the best players are always the ones who have it all together and just play on an exceptional level that day.
Oh that’s too bad. Still, more and more stuff has been picking up lately, so fingers crossed. Defiantly an event I want to go to. It being pre Covid explains why I’m not familiar.
5:10 Similarly to being unable to attack on the first turn, being able to normal summon face-up defense would also break the game and slow it to a crawl.
I would like to see the YuGiOh channel playing both modern and legacy in a video sometime
The intro is so good 😂
The only thing good about yu gi oh
Its kinda fascinating how the magic players dont know the BASICS of yugioh and vice versa (on the cardmarket channels), it seems like theres a magic/yugioh crossover every week so surely the players mustve learned SOME basic strategy from the game theyre not associated with
As a YGO player, magic is extremely confusing to me/us.
There's a reason we stick to YGO
@@selfloathingweekly? Phases are similar, chain is similar, battle phase is the literal opposite, which sounds like a big deviation but all it amounts to is, you attack YOUR OPPONENT with all of your mons during a sub phase, THEN your opponent chooses their monsters as attack targets(so you send your army at them, and they choose what to put in danger.) Damage calculation as normal, except it's "healed" at the end phase instead of immediately. So two 1500atk mons can whittle down a 3000atk mon.
80% of mons are a toon(can't attack during the turn it is special summoned) and players DO NOT take excess battle damage, even while in attack position UNLESS a monster has piercing. Tapping is pretty easy to explain, since there's no defense position, you gotta do something with your sideways cards so when your card uses an OPT or attack, you turn it sideways.
Lol, if you bothered to read that you pretty much have everything you need. Every summon IS a special summon, your land is your normal summon and used as the cost for most effects and activations since very few cards have "cannot be summoned/set, except by X" or any other kind of condition/restriction to hit the board.
TLDR Magic is like everybody playing random rogue decks and most negate effects are banned.
Holy shit Adam, that dance at the end hahahahaha
2:23 bro started playing rush duels lmao
"im gonna attack" im gonna block. "Wait, thats illegal. JUDGE!"
Wow, those dance skills Adam pulls at the end of the video are truly a sight to behold!
The part of Yugioh that really blows my mind compared to MtG is the lack of a "Fail to find" mechanic. If you cast a tutor, and you dont have a legal target left in your deck, you have just cheated.
That’s funny, because it’s the complete reverse for me, and even now fail to find still throws my natively Yu-Gi-Oh brain off kilter.
I don't think so the card still says search for
@@CaptainMarvel4Ever So the idea behind the fail to find rule is that you actually might not find something. So imagine for a second you played pot of desires, lost 10 cards and don't know what they are, and then play fusion sage to search for a polymerization that no longer exists. Magic says you can do that, you just won't find anything.
@@jacobisbell9388 Moreover (and I know you know this, but I'm elaborating for the people here who don't), since you might not have the required cards in your library, you're never required to find them in the first place. If you have no restrictions on what you can find (it just says "search for a card" or "search for three cards" or something like that), you have to pick that many (or your whole deck if you somehow have less than that). But if there are any requirements at all, no matter how trivial (see Gifts Ungiven: "search your library for four cards with different names" - still counts as a restriction), you can find fewer than that, or even none. Sometimes this might be beneficial for you, so you can do it on purpose.
The thing about yugioh is that all cards from all eras can be played in modern and will have insane interactions and rulings.
You CAN use all cards from all eras but you don't want to.
You really really really don't want to.
@@selfloathingweeklyEh, every now and again an old wording comes up. That level 4 dragon fusion monster was very expensive until Konami started pumping out better Instant Fusion targets and older cards like Smoke Grenade of the Thief or the Pheonix warrior equip get banned all of the time for ftk's.
My head is spinning from this and I'm only halfway through the video.
This wasn't even 2006 YGO, fam
This was 2003 Yugioh.
this video was so funny, I never had even the slightest interest in yugi but I watched this grinning and laughing
you guys are great!! also the dance at the end was too good, might have to nerf this person
omg that training section was so good haha
13:09 - That dance was the best part of the video.
That training montage was on point for anime training
We need to see you play the Edison Format.
Adam dancing is the best part of the video
I love that we've just moved on from trying to explain things before the video starts and just let the madness sink in naturally.
Feels like the audience is used to it at this point so it just works.
nice fun video, yugi vs kaiba starter decks are always fun to see, but I'd like to see both thoralf and jamin play more advanced or thematic fun decks, with more monster effects, different synergies, extra deck summons and things like that.
IMO, ygo isn't thaaat different to mtg, the turn structure and goal are similar. Even more advancend things like spell speeds are somewhat similar to the old system in mtg (spells are sorceries, traps are instants, counter traps are interrupts)
Ok, I'm only 3 minutes into the video, but the Toffel-Marshmallow-cuteness moment and all the punts at the start of the game... LOL XD
I would love to have post credits bloopers or small clips! Boost that watchtime yo!
I need a gif of Adam's little dance in the background
wow... this was unexpected but so enjoyable, thanks for the video😉
13:11 That guy look like Harry Potter but act like Robbie Rotten from Lazzy town 😂
Oh my god, Adams Dance moves at the end killed me 😂😂😂😂
"I summon my monsterS"
Yep we definetly need physical rush duels outside the ocg areas
😂😂😂 The Training Montages are amazing
That was a 4head play, purposefully break the rules so you can destroy your opponent's monster that you control so that it doesn't go back to your opponent during the end phase.
Nice! But I hope to see them play a proper match later on
This is not the Yu-Gi-Oh channel, but it would be a good idea. I would prefer it if there was a little bit more structure, so even someone going in completely blind can understand what is going on.
This video was tons of fun, but it was more the comedic effect of the two players doing some not exactly legal stuff and Leoni coming in correcting them. I feel like I still know very little about Yu-Gi-Oh itself. (apart from starting with 5 cards and having only 1 attack)
@@pinobluevogel6458YGO is very easy to learn actually.
Another banger. These guys don't miss.
Mtg player here, literally had no clue what was going on the whole video. I couldn’t read the cards
You think YGO players read cards???
@@selfloathingweeklylol why would we want go to time on turn 1?😂 Better to just remember the big scary monster and blow it up when we see it!
When the one guy just summoned all of his monsters at once I died laughing 😂
He just did a pendulum summon I don't see a problem!
The wheel of punishment made this unenjoyable for me. I was hoping for a straightforward game of Yugioh with some forgiveness as they learn and have a serious game
Same here. Yu Gi Oh already seems "off-the-wall" or wild compared to MTG; adding random nonsense didn't improve the video. Gimmicks such as the wheel or hat of punishments only make sense when the format would otherwise be stale and played out. I seem to recall a Cardmarket: Magic video where the hosts mentioned that you should never be afraid to ask a judge when you have a rules question. Judges handing out punishments to new players just feels bad.
Yeah why make it harder
This was interesting; after the training footage i figured theyd at least know the game phases 😂
7/7★ content
I don’t even need to see the video, the opening was magnificent
Love seeing Adam on the MTG channel. Hoping for more Adam on the Yu-Gi-Oh channel
jamin training with these tins is kinda funny cause i use them to store cents
and they are full
Wow, finally another Cardmarket crossover
This was highly entertaining, but almost completely non-informative. 10/10.
It wasn't even real Yugioh
i love this channel so goddamn much
So, only recently did i pick up a box of blank Dragonshield sleeves to finally, after well over a decade, replace my UltraPro sleeves.
They are so good, oh my god.
You guys should try more yugioh, im not even a magic player but you guys are hilarious
Now this is quality content 🥹
I saw Mystic Elf and Giant Soldier and was like "Oh sick we've got some old school decks!" love this
Love your sponsor, Dragon Shield is the best! Only the best for Cardmarket
My favorite sleeves. They were around since very early magic times and have retained their high quality standards ever since.
Funnily enough we've seen a ship being rated as a normal monster... When its a Giant piece of Sushi. Good ole suships
Now I know what I'm getting myself into next week 😂
Commenting before watching this in full. Personally, I'm disappointed you didn't give them decks filled with "Lands": Sogen, Umi, Yami, Mountain, & Forest. (& maybe Wasteland, too.)
Also, the wheel is a nice touch! Kinda disappointed you seemed to have let them read the manual first....
Anyway, thanks so much for uploading! Looking forward to more like this so far!
