If Drake isn't hip hop then he shouldn't be out rapping 90% of the field when he does rap. 8 AM in Charlotte shows that Drake can easily still snap when he chooses

Id argue that theres a large portion of music in MOS's catalog that isnt hip-hop either.
Black on both sides is OBVIOUSLY A CLASSIC. Most of the SHlT on rawkus CLASSICCCCC..... Reflection Eternal classic.. etc. but theres alot of songs from this era that dont sound anything like hip-hop..And then his stuff POST RAWKUS.... id say 80% of it is technically hip-hop....the other 20 is... IDK world music???.. . but ITS ALOT OF STUFF from him post RAWKUS that dont sound like any kinda hip-hop i ever heard
And thats alright...but dont try to call out other heads for not "being hip-hop" when you yourself have strayed far away from who you were when you came in the game. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

@@LushOne Aww SHlT. I ain't even watch a damn second of the video. This was just my response to the title of your video off rip.
      Yuppp...you basically feel the same.
If anything.. all this SHlT reminds me of ...is that I MISS THE OLD MOS on some emcee'n SHlT over some vintage Hi Tek beats over even PREEM (mathematics one of the best songs of ALL TIME).
DRAKE FASHO an EMCEE..as much as Mos is. Except drake experimented with making more commercially viable music and mos experimented with more avant garde type of stuff... They both kinda in the same playing field just they both experimented with different types of music when they put they pen down and get to trying new things .

@@LushOne bro I just heard the interview...he said..he heard drake in target in Houston.... and the podcaster said well is he pop as an artist he makes pop music or cuz he charts and he said something like "Im just saying drakes music is synonymous with shopping" or something along those lines...
Honestly I think that's super harmless .... and even Mos body language was very playful and tongue in cheek when he said it.. I hadn't heard exactly what mos said...till just RN. And honestly I don't think that's too harsh of a criticism. And HONESTLY IT'S ACTUALLY TRUE... Drakes music is technically MUSIC for the WORLD. Can be bar out thooo?? Hell YEAH... Most of us know that including mos.. but he Def does intentionally make music for the WORLD that will be POPULAR.
Anyways...like I said it was pretty harmless. I heard drake responded too but he didn't get upset or disrespectful or anything.
What would be the best outcome from all of this is drake uses mos criticism as an excuse to Bar out....On the next album or drop some JOINTS where he bars out...

Mos Def is friends with Common and we remember what Drake did to Common. If he's not hip hop then why do all the hip hop artist need him to make a hit?

I kinda get what Mos is saying. It's just kinda hard to distinguish hip hop from pop now that hip hop has been the dominant culture for awhile.
Also the way rap embraces success makes it a lot different than say an anti capitalist punk band that gets rich and keeps preaching the same thing.
You could say the attitude of getting rich and living lavish without any serious political message is fake hip hop but that's been going on long before Drake. Drake just happened to be one of the best at it. He probably couldn't change it either.

I agree. He's Pop. Hip POP. that's not an insane statement at all.

Drake is a great artist but i dont agree that he's a great lyricist, i aint never heard him spit anything close to a classic verse, he's better when he sings so i get where mos def is coming from but he is a hip hop artist at the end of the day
