Ya know, just like the maritime strength, there actually was a small debate if Canada should’ve made all Maritime provinces one bigger province in the 70s. Some even wanted to add Newfoundland and Labrador, and it would’ve been called the maritime union.
Other province ordeals also included making a province out of northern Montreal, as some French didn’t like it because most English speakers in the area lived there.
And also in case you were wondering why I said one plan was to add Newfoundland is because PEI, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick = the Maritimes, while PEI, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland = Atlantic Canada :)
