- Jockey Irad Ortiz spoke with the media after he worked Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner and Eclipse champion 2-year-old Forte at Churchill Downs in preparation for next Saturday's 149th Kentucky Derby. Forte, trained by Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher for Mike Repole and Vinnie Viola's St. Elias Stable, was timed working a half-mile in 49.80 seconds in company. Starting off behind a stablemate, Forte was clocked in splits of 12.40 and 24.60 and galloping out five-eighths in a strong 1:00.80.

Not Sure if Forte Will Win But Irad Really Loves Him
Everyone loves there derby mount. Especially of your on the favorite
Whenever the experts say no pace we get a lot of pace...Forte is versatile and will be fine. Class and ability to navigate traffic is big in this big field. Remember, he was way outside in the FL Derby and won. Only 3 horses won from that far out in the Fl Derby...Barbaro, Big Brown...and Forte all won from the far outside.
Thats some great company to be in.
How much pace do they need? Its not like there are any world class speedsters in the race.

Irad rode forte this morning then hit on a plane and is in New York a few hours later.

A lot better questions and I liked that the interviewers stuck to their guns wanting real answers. Instead, of the usual lazy answers they typically give.

There good at Ny tracks absolutely no value betting them & I don't I know to much about there shenanigans they should have been getting 30 day suspensions at a time but NYRA has put pressure on stewards so the public continue to bet them !

No investigation they got called in the stewards office & they ask them why they wait on each other in races as you watch them ride. The old days the jockeys would have put them over the rail. BELIEVE THIS THEY AREN'T LIKED IN THE JOCKEYS ROOM

I know outside of the Derby....Ortiz has done well.
But for whatever reason...he under performs with great horses, including favorites in the Derby.
He couldn't ride Baffert's Derby favorite Improbable to a top 3 finish and he hasn't ever finished in the money in the Derby.
In all his racing on the Churchill dirt...he's only got a 15% win rating. I'll look to beat Irad Ortiz next Saturday and if he doesn't finish in the top 3 with the Forte...The trifecta will pay really well.
Yes that’s the only thing I had in my mind is he’s good at most stakes except for kentucky derby

Someone commented that Irad loves this horse Forte, of course he does, he will ride the horse, I don’t think he will win, I also think that Irad is one of the dirty jockeys.
Don't think this horse has improved from 2 to 3yrs old....
