at 8:25 he mentions the terms 'epigenetic landscape'. If you research the term epigenetics now you will find that is a brand new science in it's infancy, only really realized in the last 5 or so years.
The fact that Mckenna not only used this greek suffix in-front of the term genetics, but seemed to apprehend this entirely new field of scientific enterprise over 20 years before it was even established as a worthy science shows just how ahead of the curve he really was.

not to take away from Mckenna, but although epigenetics is only recently seriously emerging into the scientific arena sue to us being able to sequence genes and see methyl tags etc, the idea has been around since the 40's with C H waddington.

It makes me happy that so many McKenna videos have tens of thousands and even hundreds of thousands of views. People are still hearing his message a decade after his death. He has led to an awakening in culture happening beneath the surface which doesn't get a lot of attention (which is probably for the best or else it might result in a crackdown) but is having a huge affect on culture. It's amazing how many people have now heard of DMT and Terence has given birth to hundreds and thousands of artists, scholars, journalists and more spreading his ideas and building on them.

Does not look like mankind is diverting anything if anything we are entertaining ourselves into extinction. This is because nobody is taking initiative I mean I protest the government everyday, but the problem is people think I'm crazy, even if people do watch these videos later on they just return to the materialistic mindset and these videos move to the back if their thoughts.
This is exactly why McKenna argues that psychadelics are so important for the revolution in mankind that he proposes. All people, myself included, have this disturbing tendency to revert back to what is known, rather than to accept even a logical solution to a perceived, or real, problem. It's really remarkable how quickly after we understand and accept the implications of a thing that we can simply switch back to the culturally programmed mindset we already knew. Psychadelics are not the answer alone; they are simply a tool. And this tool must be used in conjunction with the knowledge that we must change ourselves to change each other; to change our culture; to change this planet.
Thomas Harms Amazing!!! I was going to put it in the exact same words myself. It is why I believe that this hybrid and balance between the two could be the most powerful platform for this needed change. Even with all the ups and downs in the world I believe we are slowly heading that way, I only hope I can do my part in discovering and enhancing this transition and technique.

Terrence Mckenna tries to solve a problem that unfortunately cannot be solved. This is the conflict between individual and culture. The only option you have is to accept culture as it is but this is out of your hand.

I find lots of Mckenna's ideas provoking and well considered, but why does he always assert "psychadelics" as being of utmost importance?
@ 5 minutes he says we need to resist the authorities and the propaganda (I agree) but that we need to form "communities based on psychadelics... etc".
Why is that first on his list?
Sometimes I wonder if his judgment was a little clouded by extreme bouts of drug use.
Clouded? No. Crystallized is the term you were searching for. Terence saw the psychedelic experience as a journey into a higher dimension. He realized that the true nature of Human beings is mental, not physical. As our technology develops, the importance of the experience will be better understood and our true nature will be revealed to us.
What you seem to be implying is that he just wanted easier access to psychedelics and that he was somehow addicted to them, but you couldn't be more wrong. Anybody who's had the experience knows that it's not an easy thing to jump back into. It takes an immense amount of courage to travel to such uncharted territories. What I feel he meant is that psychedelic people need to gather and better organize ourselves because he truly believed that we hold the key in our hands. Not the Vatican, not the Masons. It's US.
Terence has this great quote that goes like this, "If this is not the secret that these lineages are guarding, then they’re guarding an empty house." In other words, the psychedelic experience is probably the single most important experience a human being can have. Some think that those in high power are guarding some big secret, like the holy grail or the ark of the covenant. What Terence was saying is that if it isn't the psychedelic experience, it isn't anything. This IS the secret.

Jordan Beaudry Its the only thing he thinks changes an individual for the better just like when you take shrooms and you experience "love, community, individual spiritualy connection with the earth, advanced consciousness, etc". Its like Mother Earth left these on itself so we can adapt to our rapid ability to learn and become one with the quick exponential change that is result of our awesome brains. We have the brains for awesome technology but require the collective compassion, humanity, and love that shrooms allow us to access easier from ourselves.
+Jordan Beaudry To put it secularly, it very likely has to do with the fact psychotropic drugs are the quickest ticket to dissolve this separate "skin encapsulated ego" we define ourselves as. It's in that image of ego we see division in the world, when the reality all of it is interconnected and interdependent.
I'm more on the boat of Alan Watts in that I am open to any and all avenues to dissolve this illusory self. Mckenna's experience only had drugs work for him, so he cites those as the go-to answer, and for many people, they absolutely are the go-to answer.
