My Jaw dropped when I saw the headline of this video! The Boss singing "Pink Houses" with Mellencamp!! One of my favorite songs!! And to see both of these legends singing together is rare in my experience.
I had the honor and privilege of seeing this up front first row live in person. It was so surreal couldn't believe it was happening, I was so emotional I teared up it was that phenomenal. I will never forget this for the rest of my life.
He clearly doesn't. But then John works best when under pressure and seems to relish the underdog role. Probably why he believes we are put on earth to challenge ourselves, not to be happy.
I read an interview from mellencamp in the 1980s, he was talking about when he first met the boss and telling him how tough it was always being compared to him, Springsteen told him how much he liked pink houses and John laughed and said ‘well I stole it from you..’
Brings back such good memories; my two favorites together. It does not get much than that! Music is what has carried me through so much. It has worked when nothing else. Thank you guys!
I'd give my right arm to see these two musical icons perform together in person. I've been a huge fan of both for many, many years. This was so very awesome to watch. Thank you!
“Rain on the scarecrow, blood on the plow.” Means as much to me today as it did when I first heard it. The world these men grew up in is fading, hearing them gives me hope.
This two American icon they are my first rock en roll that I heard when i was a kid I’m only 8 years old when i hear there music since 1985 and I listen to my sony walkman with cassette tapes beautiful human being. 🇺🇸🇵🇭
The significance of this song for me is profound. To see these 2 rock icons (along with Jackson Browne - my major influences) perform it, sent a chill up my spine and a tear in my eye.
@John Mellencamp We've seen you perform live several times in the NYC area. My second best live show ever was you at Jones Beach in 1994. You really brought your "A+" game that night - we were on our feet the entire show - you entertained, inspired, and gave us a great night and great memory. My first best live show was U2 at Madison Square Garden in October 2001 - a healing evening after 9\11. We hope to see you on Long Island again. Peace
FUNNY !!! LOL YEA MAN Saw Mellencamp many times circa Scarecrow/Lonesome Jubilee... Sringsteen Born in the USA twice/that tour.... But never the two of them at the same time on the same stage !!! thats cool...
@@rswitch921 good point I guess hes not all that bad but I'm just saying 10000 square foot mansion there in Indiana. He's not living in the house he grew up in. Liberal rock stars and celebrities just piss me off. They feel guilty because they're so rich . They want to tell everybody else how to live, but you don't see them selling their mansions and giving all their money away.
Mellencamp and Springsteen, the finest American troubadours of the simple man performing one of the finest songs penned about him. Well, I suppose it could get better, but I defy you to show me how.
epic song, epic to see two legends share the stage, how good it has been to see John again and The Boss together. Extraordinary expression of brotherhood, after several years of seeing them at different stages of their lives. John please come back with that passion you have for music and act more often man, that we want to hear you in performing live.
you can really tell these guys were enjoying them self doing a little more bonding along the way these guys man were constant competitors in the 80s bruce i wont call the boss has always been a class act on stage and john i wont call cougar just mellencamp always entertaining on stage and colorful man 2 of my favorite singers of all time just awsome to see these guys togather!!
Good to see John. Haven't heard much of him in a while. Always good to see Bruce. Don't know who the girl on violin is, but she rocks. Almost brought a tear to my eyes.
Never thought I'd see the day these two shared the stage. I hope performing with Springsteen reignites the fire of performing in Mellencamp, who has completely mailed it in the last two time I've seen him.
The past three times I saw him (two different tours), he was pretty good. Not as great as earlier in his career, but still thought he was OK. However, all three times he sang "Jack & Diane," he did it acoustic and sorta stopped after the first verse, while the crowd then went into the chorus. He then jokingly chided the audience for not letting him sing the second verse. He did that all three times. I was kinda like: "OK, we get the joke. But that's such a classic song -- please just play it normally ..."
I always thought Bill Clinton should have had John sing this at his inauguration, but instead he had Maya Angelou read a poem. He could have done both. Last time I saw John they opened with a re-styled version, I guess he was trying to get out from under it being his "signature" (very much like him to do this). He wrote some of the best simple chord hits ever, but later in his career he had others the critics hardly even noticed. Check out "Cuttin' Heads" if you are not familiar with it, some of his best work ever ("Deep Blue Heart", "Women Seem", "Worn Out Nervous Condition"). I never pay attention to the political meanderings of rock stars, 1-in-a-million savants don't think like the rest of us and it would be better if they shut up and sang. Doing benefits is good (but the record on having the money go where it should is not great, there is a book on how most of the original "Live Aid" cash got stolen or was used for things other than food by corrupt regimes). I hope he has managed to back off his (4 pack a day?) cig habit by now.
Boys STILL as hot as 1976!!! Will always be an ERA of Music like None Other. Being a Youth in 1970's Rock n Roll was Hot and was America and the home of the Free -- free to be who YOU were and free To EXPRESS Who you were -- What's Happened America? Where has the freedom gone?

Mellencamp looks like Steve Martin standing on the front porch trying to get the rythym in the movie "The Jerk". That was a biography of Mellencamp's life. But don't ask me ask John.

Two of the best singer songwriters of a generation together, ain't that America...
No doubt !
We are the luckiest generation ❤️ greatest songs 🎵 I can only hope our music and generations to come listen 🎶 and enjoy . In American music 🎶 USA 🇺🇸
Doesn’t get much better than seeing the 2 masters of Heartland Rock sharing a stage together.

Tikneshia Beauford how lucky were you, I’m tearing up watching it
SO COOL.........
So cool you got to be there ! This was enjoyable to watch !
It's like seeing Fonzie and Superman together!
I bet. I'm tearing up just watching them play it here. Seeing them sing "Ain't that America" line together...so great.
Never felt JM got enough credit for his songwriting... Had Bruce written this, it would have been heralded as one of his best! Just a perfect song...
He clearly doesn't. But then John works best when under pressure and seems to relish the underdog role. Probably why he believes we are put on earth to challenge ourselves, not to be happy.
It is heralded as one of the best

John Mellencamp is still my "boss" in 2023!❤❤❤❤😊. What a great Christmas concert. Wish I could have attended. Go Bruce!! Great band too😊
Just smiled all the way through that. Didn’t want it to end. Special.
I'm a bigger Cougar fan than a Bruce fan, but it is just great that these two finally got together for a show!
Bravo boys!

the Mount Rushmore of great Rock,n Roll American singer/songwriters of the last 40 years. Mellencamp, Springsteen, Petty and Seger

Just seeing those two singing together brought tears.....they are both my favorites......ever!! America!!!
About 30 years ago I briefly lived in a house that was painted pink on the outside, for some reason this song always reminds me of that place.
City and County coming together, it doesn’t get better than Bruce and John. They both represent the essence of Rock ‘n Roll, just so pure!
two of my hero's knocking it out of the park - great song with a great message for all of us, performed by two legends... thanks

@John Mellencamp I just learned you are not JM in this video. Get a life
Man, I'm just glad Mellencamp got some time off from the garage to come out and perform in his coveralls. But seriously, epic to see them together.
He had to be back at work at 7am for an oil change and new gasket.

Mellencamp is big phony. He's trying to look like a poor person. He's got a fetish for poor people, except he makes sure he stays nice and Rich.
