Heyy. Thanks so much for this video review. I’m considering staying at this hotel for my birthday next year in March. I appreciate your honesty about the issue in the room but also your tip to download the Riu app. Bummer about no room service tho!? Would you mind sharing what month you visited and how you found the weather / traveling outside of the resort?
@@medley452 Hello! Thanks for watching! We visited the end of June this year. We went out of the resort to the cruise ports to do some shopping and then we went to Scotchie’s Jerk Center. The food there was decent. We visited during rain season, however in the Caribbean it rains briefly then the rest of the day is sunny.
Is there a cost for the steak house and can you bring food to your room to eat. How many restaurants can you go per night. And if you mis the restaurant due to being full is there anything else open. What time does the restaurants close.
I was there Nov 24, 2021. The hospitality of the staff was phenomenal. Very diverse mixture of guests from Europe, Jamaica and Americans, both black and white, made the vibe feel great! If you get a chance to see the Silver Birds perform at the resort, DON'T MISS IT! Two hour ride from Montego Bay airport and 10 minute drive from Dunn's River Fall which is a $35 roundtrip cab fare for up to 4 people. If you can take advantage of the Mobay express service at the MBJ airport, that will speed you through customs/immigration on your arrival and express screening when it's time to depart. I have so much more to share... Karai, I apologize for being long-winded on your feed
Thank you for the review! I'm currently planning a trip to Ocho Rios and am considering staying here, so this was very helpful....even the info about Scotchies vs Pepe's, lol 😉
We are here in September, for 14 nights all the way from England, what is the name of the Bob Marley tour and who is it best to book with and how much is it
I was there for 2 weeks I loved it didn’t have no problem at all been back in my house 5 days with today we love going there with this trip it’s 12 times been there.
Great video. We are going there in 3 days! Question, what's the safe and best affordable way to get to Riu Ocho Rios from Montego Bay Airport? Also, you mentioned that Covid-19 testing is free for guests staying more than 3 days at the resort? Thank you in advance for answering my questions - Jay
I am going here on 17th August for two weeks , nice to know that the entertainment was good ,Are we allowed to dance etc and is the curfew still 11pm ? Thank you for sharing your experience 👍😁
Yes! You you all are still allowed to dance. I believe the curfew is changing to 7pm Monday-Friday and 6pm on Saturday starting tomorrow. There should still be things to do within the resort. I hope this helps! :)
I've been to this hotel 4 times, Jamaica 9 times. I like to go to Kingston like 3 or 4 times in the 3 weeks I go for. I like BoB Marley's museum. Right now I don't like the lockdown business. So, I'm waiting untill it's how it was. I've met the Marley brothers 6 times not all at "BoB Marley's museum" though. Aswell as another 15 Reggae Artist. I like the Riu Hotels best. But I always go around the lovely Island. Best people I think 😁. 🌴💛🌴
Yes! The property does have family suites located near the waterslides. However, the family suites building is further away from the main building, therefore it will be quite a walk to the beach and restaurants. Since you have a young family the regular room or suites should be fine. You also will be closer to everything. Definitely go to the kids' water park on the property. The babies will love it! The gift shop is very expensive ( $20 for sunscreen). Make sure bring all your neccessities. The beach is very calm. If your kids get cold at night easily, you want might want to bring an extra small blanket. The bed does not have blankets on it, just sheets. However, there are two blue blankets that are located in to closet. This resort is very kid friendly! Hope this helps!
I’m going to Rui ocho in Jamaica for my best friends birthday. Which restaurant would you say would be good for a sit down birthday dinner? We will also be kinda dressed up… thank you in advance
Went recently food was prepared for the palate of the visitors, I saw a bug among my sheets (so I slept on the couch), doors don't close properly, it is silly using the card to access the room to turn on the electricity, I only found the water park and breakfast to be substantial. Even the entertainment was average and Jamaicans could not answer some questions - who supported them during Covid?
None of the restaurants were extra cost. However there were certain food choices within the menu that were for an extra fee at some of restaurants (such as the steakhouse). Thanks for watching! If you haven't already done so please hit the subscribe button.
Hello! Thanks for watching! We booked through Delta Vacations and transportation was provided through our travel package. However, the hotel also provides transportation as well! I hope this helps!
Hello! Yes majority of the guests visiting the resort were from overseas, however it seems many locals come to vacation at the RIU during the weekend. We stayed for 5 days (Wednesday-Sunday). We have only stayed at the Ocho Rios location in Jamaica. Personally, the next time we visit we would stay at the RIU Palace Jamaica in Montego Bay. The Palace class hotels have better service and quality of food. We stayed at the RIU Palace Las Americas in Cancun and fell in love with the quality of RIU's Palace hotels.
Yes there are, however we did not get a chance to partake in any night life outside of the resort because of the curfew. When we were there, the curfew was at 10pm. Now, I believe the curfew is at 11pm. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
@@kncott so basically, the resort closed all their activities due to whatever the curfew is, is that right?! Cause it looks like the prime minister just pushed it back to 8pm. And if that’s the case, I guess we not doing anything past 8. :(
Yes! That is how it was when we went at the end of June. Who knows though, the resort could keep things going until 11pm. When we stayed there, the resort did a pretty good job updating the activities on the app. Good luck!
Let me clarify, you can go outside of your room on the resort as long as you like. However, the entertainment on the property does close early. The only thing on the resort that is 24 hours is the sports bar. I hope this helps!
Hello quick questions, I am going here next month and were all of the restaurants all inclusive? And was the resort a good all inclusive resort in general or were there a lot of paid add one
Yes, all of the restuarants were all inclusive. There were some meats from the steakhouse that were add ons. However, every restaurant provided certain items that were inclusive of the rate. I hope I made this clear! Thanks for watching!
The seafood was okay. The best seafood we had from a RUI resort was in Las Americas in Cancun. It may be better now. We went in 2021 when this location was transitioning to a new chef.
Lol…😂😂😂lmao@ steak was over done….no pink at all….note to all….Jamaicans don’t like under cooked food….everything has to be well done….a so we like it😂😂😂😂😂 even if we’re serving food to tourists…….
Guest services sucks phone doesn't work...The staff they're stereo type and are hustlers...entertainment is awesome ...food is delicious however the server's doesn't act as though they enjoyed their jobs they don't refill your glass and when clearing the table they didn't even ask if you're done before re moving your plate...house keeping needs to pay more attention to detail when cleaning the rooms aswell. Oh! and they charge a fee of 35usd to see the nurse. Service for the most parts is very very poor .
I have never heard this before- and I know a lot of people who went there. That was also NOT my experience. The staff was very friendly, even though they were clearly burned out, and the rooms were clean! Did you want them to wipe your a$$ for you too? If so, you should book a hotel that charges several thousands of dollars. This is a 4-star, all-inclusive hotel.
I've been here twice the resort is nice but it attracts a ruff crowd because its cheaper.Large groups of singles unsupervised kids running around girls checking in with bathing suits on.The place is kinda Ghetto
If you have questions about our stay, feel free to ask in the comments! I hope you enjoy!
Did you love the beach? Watching the video

We’re you able to go to local restaurants? Did you have to book activities/excursions through the resort? Was there a spa on site ?
Thanks for the review! This was really helpful

Yesss! Our trip was a good trip too! We had minor problems with the room, but they attended to us right away!
The second food picture looks like it was salt mackerel and dumpling. Ackee is a yellow dish.
I was thinking the same thing lol

Wow thank you so much for this video. We will be there in May so this video is very welcome and appreciated.

Do you still get the mini bar and the Appleton liquor in the room ??
No, it wasn't there when we went. However, things might have changed.

Is the buffet no self service now? If so, Does that delay the process and are there long line ups? Arriving next week with two small children
Any recommendations for a family of four with a 3 and 1 year old?

Is it party resort for young people 18- 25?
Hi. What is the Rio app. Can’t find it. Thanks.
Hello Dereck!
Go to the App store for iphone or google play store for andriod. The RIU app is called, "RIU Hotels & Resorts".
I hope this helps!
